This is the sale I've been holding out for.

Herman Miller isn't for everybody and I highly recommend sitting in one before buying - my old work had the Aeron size C classic and they were really good to sit in. Also recently tried the Vantum and that wasn't too bad either.

Delivery Costs
* Standard Shipping $80: Door-to-door service only. Excludes assembly and rubbish removal.
* Delivery & Assembly (Metro Only) $110: Includes delivery, assembly (if required) and packaging removal. Excludes electrical, wall & joinery installation. • Is aeron (or any other chairs) worth an upgrade over steelcase gesture/leap 2?

    • For a humorous take:
      - Gesture or Leap seat cushion absorbs your butt smells
      - Aeron mesh cushion butt smells just pass right through it

      For a serious take:
      - Aeron has a lot of adjustability to suit you

    • +1

If the Gesture / Leap works for you, then that's the main thing.

I have a Leap 2 I got secondhand for dirt cheap and I hate it, but it's otherwise a pretty popular chair.

    • A Steelcase Leap 2 is an amazing chair which I used for years. I now use an Aeron at work and a Mirra 2 at home. Go with the HMs if you like the breathability of mesh, but personally I find the Leap 2 a terrific chair with probably more adjustability than the HMs. It’s also great for those with bigger butts.

    • Switched to Aeron from Gesture. I feel Aeron has better lumbar support and way more encouraging for natural upright sitting.
Could try sitting on one for more than 10mins to tell if it's for you.

  • -1

    Thanks, bought five :)

    • +2

      Well that's original…..

      • OP started the jokes with this post and terming it a bargain.

  • Nice chair and all, but not for $2,000 hahahaha no way, well maybe if I were rich, but then I wouldn't be checking OZbargain for a deal now would I.

    • +5

This type of chair falls into the Buy It For Life category.

      • +2

yeah it's cool, i like, but not for my life savings

        • -7

You make the money back by not paying as much for your back issues in the future

          • +3

@TurtleTrooper: i never had any back issues because i lean back and put my feet on the desk

      • +1

I dunno, I'm using the same swivel chair I used back when I was in Uni. Going on 20 years and aside from the, uhh, "stains" 🤣 … it still doesn't look like breaking anytime soon.

        • what brand swivel?

          • @[Deactivated]: Don't remember, but it'd be some generic Officeworks swivel chair that parents buy for their kids lol

  • Cannot believe the inflation. I got mine 4 years ago that was $1,408.
Aeron Remastered by Herman Miller, Fully Featured, Size B, Graphite

  • +1

Surely they could slip in the illusion of a free delivery for that $, at least in the same state

Anyone been to their showroom in Melbourne?, is it cool to just go in and sit on some chairs with no appointment like Steelcase

    • +1

Yep can just go in to the showroom (Richmond) and check it all out. I think you'll have to go up to the second floor for the office gear to see the Herman Miller stuff though.

    • +1

I think the fact they come fully assembled in a big box adds to the delivery costs.

I went to the showroom in Melbourne a few years ago and you just walk in.

  • +3

I got one mid 2020 for $1950, my all time best purchase … i literally dont have a bad thing to say

  • +1

You can get brand new Herman Miller from resellers for $1600ish.

Facebook search them. There is one group who get in hundreds at a time, but they are not official resellers. You can get a 12 year warranty for $200 extra. I trialled a chair for 3 weeks and they were great. Herman Miller charge resellers a lot per year to become a reseller. I saw all the stock these guys had and it was extensive. They had great customer service too.

I didn't actually end up buying one as for the price, I didn't feel the chair was great for me. It was way better than what I'm currently using, but I'm looking to check out Steelcase or a cheaper option from officeworks still

    • +6

How do you know it's not a knockoff?
At circa $2000 per chair there will be a market for knockoffs.

    • I bought a HM original, then a HM Remastered and Steelcase Leap V2 all to compare after the pandemic. Ended up keeping the Leap V2.

Only downside is it doesn't look as nice, and during summer it’s not mesh so I sweat in it.

The brand new HM Remastered was decently better than the second hand HM original from memory because the mesh was more firm.

      • I'm really considering the leap v2, its a lot more affordable. How do you find it for long days, 8 hours in it?

        • I used a secondhand Leap V2 for 8+ years around 10+ hours a day and loved it.

Just wanted an Aeron as used ones are around $1500. Figured I'd pay more and get the 12 year warranty from an authorised dealer as I learnt the warranty isn't transferable.

  • +7

I don't know if sitting on it to test will do much for a lot of people.

I bought mine in 2020, blind. My back was hurting from WFH and gaming all night. However, when I received it, the feeling was… fine? Underwhelming? Nothing special and I didn't feel like I was laying on a "cloud" or in heaven from comfort.

However, what became clear very soon was despite sitting all day, I no longer had sore backs or pain.

    • what changed the chair clearly isn't magic

  • +1

I'm struggling to understand, what do people do with such pricey chairs? Aren't chairs meant to be sat on? Does something else? What's with these price tags?
And adjustable arms!? Hey carpal tunnel syndrome, how you doin'?
You want all that rest, you could just lie down, and don't pay 5k for a mattress, just lie down on the floor, on the carpet etc. dangerously good for your back too!

    • +1

A lot of people work from home, so they're always on their chair. A good portion of those people are just on their computer desk after work as well, so they're basically using it more than their bed, or anything, really.

      • +1

I've been working from home for the past 6 yrs, before COVID and always after COVID. Whenever I have a sore back, I get moving, good for my health, heart, lungs etc etc

  • +5

I paid $1,645 for my Mirra 2 on sale from Living Edge in April 2022 - that's a 40% price increase to what they're selling it for (on sale) today. Pretty steep!

That said, they are great chairs! When my partner got one in 2017, I thought he was crazy for spending ~$1,500 on it (on sale, also from Living Edge). Around the same time, I bought a ~$300 IKEA chair. After a few years, guess whose back hurt when sitting / which chair's pleather was peeling, and whose chair was good as new.

I pulled the trigger on the Mirra 2 after realising it is seemingly Buy It For Life tier and both our chairs are still good as new today.

Buy once, cry once, I guess.

    • | Buy once, cry once, I guess.

Absolutely, I'll bestow my Mirra to my favourite grandchild one day ;-)

  • +4

Anyone who visits OzBargain surely can't be in the target range for this chair.

    • +14

People in Ozbargain are actually rich, it's literally a site on how to spend more money.

  • -1

Best purchase of my life! Worth every penny!

  • Got mine at $1790 delivered back in 2021. Now looking to buy an embody.

  • +14

Upvoting deal so more people will buy it, then in 10 years time i can buy it second hand off marketplace for a fraction of the price!

    • +1

Playing the long game eyy… I like it.

    • +2

      Made me upvote too! Lol

  • +3

I've had mine since the dreaded covid days. In my old chair I had to wear a back brace. Now no back issues and back brace in the bin. Expensive but saved me more in physio bills. Would never use another chair.

  • Bargain….pfft.

    • +2

it's a bargain for the rich

  • +1

Items over $300 cannot be written off and will need to be depreciated ( for home office use) , does anyone have the depreciation schedule to be used for ato , can it be front loaded?

Only way this price tag can be justified is with claiming tax rebates ,the chair is good, but the price is nuts .

This is the same company where the CEO was admonished the staff for expecting bonuses , which greedily scooping as much as she could. If anyone knows of dupes on aliexpress or so , please point me that way, would prefer to not give these ppl a single dollar if i could .

  • Many years ago, I tried Embody and really love that chair.
but look at the price tag, it was 1500, I think that price is too ridculous, I'll wait till it drop price later on or get one from ebay or something.

    Now almost a decade past, it's now 2800 bucks…

    • it's our currency loosing value to keep peasants poor

  • +1

Probably the wrong place to ask, but can anyone recommend chair around $200? Soz broke down here.

    • +1

On Facebook marketplace you can sometimes find Steelcase Gestures for around $250 especially here in NSW as long as you're willing to travel

  • -3

A fool and his money are easily parted…

This kind of post is 75% brand name, 25% comfort/design.

Edit - taxpayers across Australia are subsiding the purchase of chairs like this one. It's ridiculous.

    • +4

You actually couldn't be more wrong here. These are the cream of the crop for ergonomic chairs, they are not a fashion statement

    • Luke 23:34

    • -1

This kind of post is 75% brand name, 25% comfort/design.

I would say that is true for every other product sold by living edge, except this.

Unless you sit in a chair a lot of hours per week and have tried this chair for a while, I suspect you don't have elaborate knowledge on this topic.

  • +1

I used to think $2k is ridiculous for an office chair too. My partner has a sub $300 chair from Officeworks and mine was savaged from road side.
Then I spent a month training in office and thought that chair was bloody comfy… dug around to check the brand and it was a “I have seen this somewhere?” moment.
I still think the price tag is ridiculous. But the chair (mine is a Mirra) is a lovely treat to spend 7 hours with my ass on it. I got mine from Facebook marketplace for $650.

  • -1

Thanks, ordered 2. Only cost me 0.024 BTC. I bought my BTC in 2017 so it basically cost me $166 in actual dollars. Awesome.

    • +1

Yeah, $166 in 2017 dollars, lets talk again in 2030 when you realized you paid 300K in then dollars for two chairs. Remember the bitcoin pizza guy?

      • That's ok because my back won't hurt. Also, Bitcoin going to over $12 million in 2030? What the?

  • $2k item that comes in a box and can be lifted by a single person… And yet they charge $80 for delivery.

    • +1

Comes fully assembled, so the box is pretty big.

  • -2

I used the Aeron at work and my back gets sore after about 2 hours. I have a Secretlab at home which is much cheaper and not as good build quality, but I can sit in it for 6 hours straight and not have back pain.

  • -1

Even my sofa is cheaper than that and way more comfortable.

  • -2

brought the steelcase leap , $1259 delivered, could not justify $2100 plus for this even though my body is crying out for a comfier chair

  • +2

Today is the day I've finally stopped putting off getting a new chair… about 15 years too late. Aeron C inc.

  • As someone who owns this chair, Steelcase is better value for money

  • How does the Aeron compare to the Steelcase Karmen which is also on sale here : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/907208

    • 5 min Google search Aeron seems to be the better option, if you are going Steelcase worth considering the Leap and Gesture instead

    • I'll take the Leap over the Gesture and Karman any day but I owned a really dodgy 2ndhand one.

    • I have both - I prefer the mesh on the HM but I prefer how the Karman moves with my body when seated. Both have exceptional build quality.

  • Check out Facebook marketplace there's a bloke selling them way cheaper might be worth checking out

  • It’s like the Mercedes Benz in the 1990’s.
Spend your working life craving one.
When you’re rich enough to buy one, you no longer need it
Now it seems…… everyone has one & the quality ain’t what it used to be.

  • Can someone confirmed the $80 shipping fee will have the chair assembled? Pretty strange 12 years warranty provided without assembling the chair for you.

    • +3

When I ordered this a few years back, it was pre-assembled in the box

      • +1

yep, same with my cosm, just rolling it out of the box ready to go is part of the premium.

  • If you are going to pay this money - get an IMG Nordic 21 instead. You won't regret it.

I've got one - the dream for WFH.

    • +1

Completely different products - mesh has way better breathability

      • Not sure about $1700 for a mesh chair though.

  • FK moi, I remember when people were complaints that these were $1200! In no world this is a bargain.

  • I remember living edge used to have a clearance day and I snagged the demo classic aeron with leather armrests for $900

    • They had a big warehouse moving sale the other month, Syd only,
They also have a seconds store - https://livingedge.com.au/exit-store/

      • I went to that warehouse sale and the bargains were pretty much the same as what they are charging here. I didn't see any Aerons but plenty of Vantum's

        • I went on the first day. Lots of demo/returned aerons. They were $1900…. Got a remastered on marketplace for $800 the next day

  • +1

Bought 2 of these back in 2017 for $1050 each, still going strong no faults.

  • Backorder

  • Bargain

  • This chair is a try before you buy as it isn't for everyone. Also get it off marketplace for quarter the price. Got mine for $500, 15 years old but still in great condition and working fully.

Also can honestly say this is the only chair I've sat in which I actually have good posture for the 10+ hours a day I'm at the computer.

  • When work downsized our local office we moved into a serviced office that was furnished so divided up all the office furniture between us to take home. didn't realise we'd inherited a dozen Aerons in our meeting room from a previous move. We each took one home and I've been using mine for the last 6 or 7 years and it's been great (had to replace the strut though). There were only 5 of us left when we moved office so we could have taken 2 or 3 each but we didn't know what they were. I think the remainders went out on the trash. Hindsight………

  • If it helps anyone, the Herman Miller isn't meant to be comfy. But after sitting in one all day, you realise that there is no back pain or fatigue as it forces you into correct posture. I used to sit in one all day when I worked for a big corpo bank.

Regret not buying one precovid when $600 second hand was considered expensive.

Currently using a secret lab which is comfy but absolutely terrible for my back compared to an older generic ergo chair I had.

My next purchase will be a Steelcase chair, or maybe an embody.

  • we got new office at work i just took one no body cared

  • +2

    When does the sale end?

  • +1

Still expensive, but after having owned one, I would definitely buy another!

  • -1

    No thanks. I will stand.

No wonder people in this country don't have much savings. Spending this amount on chairs. Ridiculous and stupid.

Look at all the comments, talking about back pain and comfort 😂 justifying their purchase

    • -2

I picked up a Mirra for about $500 from a secondhand seller. I'd recommend going that route as they are good quality chairs and secondhand is a massive saving.

That said, beware anyone selling Aeron chairs for $500 on FB marketplace - some scammer tried to get me to pay a 'deposit' before coming to look at one

    • +1 for the Mirra. I have two at home and picked them up for $450 each on FB Market place. Great seats for WFH.

  • +1

What actually makes these so expensive? Like I get its worth spending a lot on a chair if you're on it 40+ hours a week, but still, its just a chair. I'm surprised some one isn't undercutting them with something that's 90% as good for like $500.

    • surprised some one isn't undercutting them with something that's 90% as good for like $500.

I would say I am also generally surprised that this has never happened. I assume there is not much R&D spend in the chair segment and not enough profit in it.

  • When I posted the showroom stock for $1356 from Living Edge I got so many haters about the high price… Glad this one thread has at least stayed on topic.

  • Hmm I could get this second hand for 1k from marketplace. But then I won't get their 12y warranty and the receipt to claim it back on tax.
