25% off Storewide + Delivery ($0 to NSW/VIC/ACT) @ Steelcase (Excl QLD)

EARLYEOFY

In my ever enduring quest to find an office chair, I stumbled across this early EOFY deal.

I was using a very old Steelcase Leap v2 that I bought secondhand and it was really good up until a few months ago. So been on the lookout for something similar but one that I can claim on tax. I'm still holding out for other office chair sales but this might be up someone elses alley.

Some pretty nice discounts but looking at previous Ozbargain posts from the associated user SteelcaseAustralia, the 25% discount seems to be a regular thing:
- Also says an additional 5% discount if you spend over $3000
- As I'm based in the Blue Mountains NSW, I only qualify for the Free Knocked Down Self Assembly Delivery
- Full Assembled Delivery is free for Sydney and Melbourne which I'm assuming is metro. Putting in my old postcode comes up that I qualify for that

For anybody in QLD, https://www.arkienvironments.au/steelcase-arki-store sells Steelcase chairs already at a discount but only delivers in QLD

Example Discounts without Headrests
- $643.50 Steelcase Series 1
- $846.75 Steelcase Series 2
- $1017 Steelcase Think
- $1062 Steelcase Think Quilted Back
- From $1259.25 Steelcase Leap - different colours and the leather one costs more
- From $1491.75 Steelcase Gesture - only the leather one costs more
- $1799.25 Steelcase Karman - only the more expensive Red-Blue Shift and Black Mesh in stock

Good chairs. I used to use them at work. Not as good as Herman Miller chairs but not bad at all.

Not as good would be subjective and model dependent. Both have S tier chairs.

    • I'll be honest once you've gotten used to an Aeron and having an airy undercarriage not much else beats it

    • I own both a Leap and an Aeron and I definitely prefer the Leap and would not buy another Aeron. That being said, I wouldn't say one is definitively better, it's preference.

      • Agree. Although the leaps have gotten very expensive these days.

      • I've tried Leap, Gesture, both caused backpains, Aeron Remastered instantly felt right. Agreed it's down to preference.

      • I also tried the Aeron for a year, never got comfortable, got rid of it for the embody

      • i own a Sayl, never had any complaints
its miles better than the secretlab chair i had prior, that thing gave me lower back strains

"Enter a valid discount code", however the shipping is free…

    • not working for me either..

I've had a Steelcase Think for almost 15 years that I would have used for many thousands of hours. Apart from the upholstery needing a good clean, it's in as good as new condition. It's held up super well.

When I first got it, I asked them about a noise one part of the chair was making (nothing too serious, I just wondered if it was normal) but they sent someone over to replace it, without me pushing at all. So my experience with their customer service is great as well.

  • really pissed they don't sell much accessories especially for the Leap 2, I recently bought an armeless leap and wanted to buy the arms and checkout the headrest. Even after emailing them got nothing. Luckily found one on FB marketplace even though it wasn't the 4D ones.
It suits me better than the HM I used at my previous job as I tend to cross my legs quite often.

People love moving to QLD but don’t want to send their products to us.

    • That's why people want to move there, it's away from civilisation

Code not working at the moment

Still regret that time when they mistakenly enabled stacking of 2 codes and I couldve bought the Gesture with headrest for 1400ish, and I didn't :(

I think the code is Baa Ram Ewe

I’d rather get a Aeron chair tbh

    • +1

I trialed an Aeron for 3 weeks recently. Size C for first week and Size B for the further 2 weeks. I wasn't blown away by it and think it's overhyped.

I think warranty is most important and if a brand has a comparable warranty then it should be fine

My wife and I share the Aeron and Leap for WFH - Both are good but I always go for the Aeron. It's hinge/rocking/leaning mechanism is much better IMO.

She prefers the $60 aldi chair…

    • +2

I used to sell Herman Miller chairs and most people don’t realize that the Aeron comes in 3 different sizes and has hundreds of adjustments and settings to make it the perfect fit. That’s why we never suggested it to couples who would share it daily, as it’s too complicated to readjust to a different level of perfect per person. It could be simply that your wife finds it uncomfortable because it’s too big or small for her and the aldi one fits her perfectly, or the settings don’t suit her body shape at all.

      • I never knew this. I have been lucky enough to have worked at places over the years that use Aeron, Mirra/Mirra 2, Leap/Leap v2, Zody and some other well regarded chairs. The Aeron was my least favourite as I felt like you would need to be well proportioned to enjoy it. Same with the Mirra but at least it was comfy. It always felt like the companies bought it because all the other dot com boom companies did.

      • Very true, I'm 102kg, 188cm and she's petite.

My fat ass prefers the aeron mesh.

This is OzB, I want to know more about the Aldi chair?

Herman Aeron miller with the 4d arms from Steelcase gesture would be the ultimate chair

Nothing has or will beat my trusty metro Buro. 10 years on and the cushion is just as thick as the day I got it.

    • Yeah I'm the same, the gas lift sprung a leak last year; got it replaced under warranty.
      Very decent chair < $500

      • How did you get it replaced? I took the chair back to Officeworks and they said they would refund only which was around $250 as I got it on special, and would not replace with the new model. The leaking lift is annoying but manageable as I found as long as I give it a few quick "pumps" when I sit on it and sit squarely it is usually ok so I am putting up with it for now.

        • Officeworks organised it for me but was the gas strut assembly only. Not a complete new chair

    • It’s a good chair. I look at these deals because I think maybe it’s time to buy a new office chair. But honestly my Buro Metro from 2013 is still going strong.

    • Any links to the best deals for metro buro? What price is considered a deal?

      • Back in the day when winc sold it you can get it under $300 - but I think its no longer the case.

    Why racism against QLD 😜

My guess is they gave Arki exclusive rights in Brisbane or some such.
Arki don't sell the full range, nor anything except one or two colors. Their display is by appointment only and appears to be a house?
Wonder if there is a drop shipper in Sydney, have chair delivered then on-shipped to brisbane.

      • I did a C&C from Arki for a Leap V2 last year and they were great - pickup was just in a storage warehouse in Murrarie. I didn't use the showroom or anything though, just a simple order.

      • Because they're not primarily a Steelcase dealer first, they're a business that also happens to be a dealer. That appears to be their office (maybe could also be owner's home?), I've been there to try out the chair, people there are nice and they help you with adjustments and such and give you plenty of time to try them out.

  • Not recommended, the back support is like none.

And return process is a pain , they charge restock fee for 100 dollars around.

    • +3

Vague comment, which model? They're all different…

      • Steel case series 2.

  • Code not working — getting “Enter a valid discount code” error.
Also noticing the Fully Assembled Delivery Service is coming up as $54, even though it should be free in Metro Melbourne.

    • liuzhen mentioned that a targeted ad says it starts tomorrow so have updated it

  • I was using a very old Steelcase Leap v2 that I bought secondhand and it was really good up until a few months ago

What went wrong, just out of curiosity? Steelcase warranties are like 12 years/lifetime depending on the part of the chair, so I'd love to know what packed it in on you

  • I got a demo Steelcase Gesture for $700 on Facebook Marketplace a year ago. It looked brand new, I got a steal. It's worth checking, as Steelcase sells their demo or returned chairs to third-party resellers.

  • How warm does the back of the Steelcase Leap get? Might have to opt for mesh since my room doesn't have AC

    • +1

With my Leap it was actually pretty good. No back sweat but I'm holding out and hoping Living Edge has a sale on the Herman Miller Cosm High Back or Herman Miller Embody Gaming

  • +1

Always remember with these chairs warranty is not transferable, if you decide to buy second hand.

  • +2

I think it starts tomorrow (according to targetted ad on FB anyway)

I've never had any luck buying office chairs online unless there's somewhere I can try them out first.

There's just so much variation from person-to-person. A chair that the online community raves about often just ends up being a compromise if you simply don't happen to fit it. Far better to get a chair that is not as high-end, but which actually fits your body.

I've generally found that highly-rated chairs by the community tend to be too wide for me and often have insufficient lumbar support. Whereas chairs that have poor ratings for comfort are often perfect. It's impossible to tell until you test them out.

    • +1

Exactly, a chair is something you can't just blind buy unless there's a no questions asked return policy which is rare in Australia. I 100% recommend taking the time to try them out first.

I took half a day off work just to try out chairs, went to all the main 3 dealers (Steelcase, Haworth, HM).

  • Herman Millers likely to go on sale for EOFY?

    • Roughly the start of June 2024, Living Edge had a sale on but wasn't looking for a chair then. Now I'm just holding out for another sale

  • Assume the Leap is a v2 or newer? Is there a 'go to' Steelcase recommendation?

Currently using a Buro metro and happy with it but padding is wearing out after 10 years.

Have tried the HM Aeron and found it comfortable, however prefer a cushion base.

    • +1

I had the same thing. Original Buro Metro was wearing out after a decade or so.
Purchased a Leap V2 ($1175 + $99 shipping) and and new Buro Metro II 24/7 ($523 + $60 shipping), when both were on sale
I find the padding on the Leap V2 terrible. The Leap has better customisation and back support, but the cushion is way better on the Metro.
I would save the money and upgrade to a new Metro. I don't think its worth the difference in price.

    • +1

Most common recommendation would be Leap or Gesture. I'm personally a fan of the gesture but you should definitely go sit in them before buying

  • I bought the Think chair last year from Sydney at about the same price. Just had the lumbar support break on me (it's made mostly of plastic), but they organised a replacement repair surprisingly smoothly. They had to send someone to my location to fix it as well, so its top points for servicing there.

If you live around the Sydney area, you can book an appointment to try out all the chairs before you buy them. I had been using this model at my previous office so I had a biased liking for it, but a mesh back is definitely the way to go, especially during summer.

  • Steelcase used to be my favorite brand, but it's now at n.2 since last year I downsized and switched to an Okamura. Steelcase chairs are very comfortable, but I find the Okamuras have much better back and lumbar support, especially when sitting at a desk all day.

    • Where did you get the okamura? I have one that I picked up from an office move about 20 years ago and the mesh is now quite stretched but I can’t find anyone that supplies replacement parts

      • I can't remember, we bought these office chairs a few years ago, but I was the only one using them and in the end I decided to keep the Okamura and sell the Steelcase. I never needed any spare parts tbh, as both are pretty solid, but the Okamura is almost entirely made of metal, and the even the fabric and the mesh still look pretty new.

        • Cheers anyway.

  • I've got a Series 2 but don't like it, there's not enough adjustments in the back

  • They do 25% all the time, wait for 35% during black friday

  • I honestly think these chairs are overrated. I bought a Steelcase Leap V2 during covid. Now it’s already so noisy/squeeky whenever I move. Comfort wise, I don’t notice much of a difference between it and the no name office chairs at work. It’s an ok chair, but def not worth the price.

  • I love my leap v2. I've tried heaps of chairs
