Lexar NS100 2.5" SATA SSD 2TB up to 550MB/s 500MB/s Read/Write $129 + Delivery ($0 NSW C&C/ $1000 Metro Order) @ OnLine Computer

180

Just got a notification that this drive is back in stock. Not an ATL but decent for SATA SSD at the moment.

Shipping for me to SA would be $8.17.

I’m currently using one of these in a UniFi Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus and it’s been flawless for almost 5 months now. I have 3 x G5 Turret Ultra cameras recording continuously and am under 500GB total.

Drive specs:
Warranty - 3 years
TBW - 1000TB
DWPD - 0.46 (460GB per day across the 3 year warranty)

Pricing for other sizes also looks to be competitive, e.g. $49 for the 512GB and $69 for the 1TB (both + delivery)

    is it SLC or TLC?

    Reliability?

  • +2

TLC, seems pretty solid - the QLC version has issues

Yup, most online reviews on amazon are pretty negative on the QLC version

      that's a nvme ssd inside a type c case

different thing and look at the speed diff

      • So its better, right?

The speed is faster but how does the 'nvme' come into effect?

Apologies, I'm a bit behind when it comes to SSDs.

Edit: I just realised that the Lexar is SATA.

        • I would hope this one is better given the price is more than double…

  • Out of interest, what are people using these for?

NAS or more internal PC storage, anything else?

I'm looking for some bang for buck long term storage drives, drives that sit in a storage box till needed, bang for buck these are excellent value.

For maximum life you should use a magnetic HDD for surveillance recording.

Plus you can get much higher storage capacity.

    • I don’t really need to archive that much so 2TB is perfectly fine for my needs. The SSD also makes scrubbing HEAPS smoother and faster too.

It's important to note that it's using YMTC 128l flash and that's prone to failure. If you're looking for cheap game storage I'd say go for it. Anything important? I'd avoid.

    Of course backups always.

    • Interesting read. I’ve had a couple of the Patriot Burst Elite drives myself and completely agree with the article’s author wrote but I’m hoping (praying?) that Lexar have the buying power to ensure they get some of the better NAND yields but only time will tell.

Also, my use case is not critical and I’m not hammering the drive at all so I’m happy to take a punt, especially as the equivalent Samsung drives are pretty much double the price. Nevertheless, I have everything crossed.

    • Is there any sata drives left that's reliable? Only the Samsung ones, right?

      • Anything that isn't YMTC 128l basically. Later models (like Lexar NMVe SSDs) don't use it. I'd still take an Intel QLC SSD over YMTC 128L.
