  • Any idea how much installation would typically cost?

    • Says $739 for Split air conditioner under 4.0KW back to back Install

What I don't understand is why does a bigger split system cost more? It's the same job isn't it? Does the unit already have the gas from the factory?

I'm afraid installation costs more than the machine itself!

Aircond installation cost is a joke tbh.

    • -2

Why is it a joke? Can you do it?

    • How so
I just did it myself, and it's a pretty involved process. Between the lineset ($10/m), mount ($30), ducting $20 you are easily spending $100 in parts. If you need to run a new line back to the switchboard, that's another $100 in parts + labor.

Then there's the warranty concerns, and with these newer units the risk of leaks is much higher so you gotta factor in allowances for return visits

      • Guessing you can't just plug it into a 10A wall socket?

        • Not with the split systems. Power goes to an outdoor switch, then to the outdoor unit, and then back to the indoor part. If you had a circuit already run to that location (say for an old window AC) then you might be able to pitch that, but to do it right hardwired appliances need their own line.

Has anyone who's bought one of these in past years confirm something for me?

When you set the fan to low, is it quiet? And more importantly, does it stay at the same speed?
I finally got around to installing a Panasonic inverter unit I bought years ago. My hope was to run it overnight, so it would keep the room warm. Instead, the bloody thing changes the fan speed every 10 minutes, going to high for a few seconds before going back down. Makes it impossible to sleep

People looking for an AC might also consider Mitsubishi. They are running a cashback promo atm. This unit is eligable for $100 off

    • Take it out of auto and into heating or cooling. The sun or the snow flake.
      Same with the fan speed.

  • Has anyone here used The Good Guys AC installation service recently? I’m looking for feedback on how the experience was, especially around pricing. Were there any extra charges that came up after the initial quote? Would appreciate any insights before I go ahead with them. Thanks in advance!
