Excellent product! Best temp set kettle I’ve had.
Recently picked up a Philips 7000 or I would’ve gotten one of these to have in reserve when my current kettle carks it!

The visual temperature indicators rubbed/wore away with use early, but it’s pretty easy to rectify with a label maker or other solution.

    • +7

I just put some clear tape over the temperature indicators and it works great. They're all still there even after years of use.

      • +1

        Great suggestion!

    • Is it quiet? I don't need a new Kettle but my current Kmart one is very loud so wouldn't mind replacing it.

      • +1

It makes a few pops and crack noises as it expands from the heat … so not really.

      • +2

I wouldn’t say it’s noisy or super quiet, strikes a good balance of knowing it’s boiled without being too loud.

I drink alot of tea throughout the day, are these good at keeping the water around 80-85c all day? Much power usage?

    • +2

it doesn't hold temperature. you're better off using a thermos

    • +2

Maybe a hot water dispenser is what you need -> Kmart digital hot water dispenser $79.

We have the previous model, and for the tea-drinking mrs w it's been brilliant.

    • +4

It has a "Keep Warm" button, but only holds temp for 2 hours. Not all day.

    • For about the same money get a proper smart kettle, and in the app you can set how long you want the "keep warm" to run for and at what temp you want it. Or if you have Alexa/Google you can turn it on by voice anywhere in the house and it's at 80c by the time you get to the kitchen.

      • Got a link to something?

    • Get a zojirushi or tiger thermos or carafe. They have 8h retention of temperature, so you won't waste power keeping water at the same temperature after boiling it. Amazon sell them.

All the stainless steel kettles with plastic windows touching hot water do my head in. Each to their own.

    • +1

I have been on the hunt for a plastic free kettle and it is not easy

    • All glass kettle ftw!

  • +3

I've had this kettle 3 times. Broken within 12-14 months each time. And replaced for free each time it was broken and a refund was recently given to me in relation to it.

Over the years they made improvements, but the failures I had were leaking from the bottom, 2x lid broken.

    • +1

Just checked and had mine since 2020, not one problem. Tempted to buy a backup as I could never go back to no temp options kettle

      • You should try the Philips 7000, which I now own. Temp control and it insulates heat a lot better. Can't comment on it much as it has only been a week or two.

        • Do you know if it has a visible temperature sensor at the bottom inside? ( looks like an eyeball. )

Its shown in one of the images here
          https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/HD9396_90/7000-series-double-…

          • +1

@vid_ghost: yeah there's a sensor in there. Lid doesn't open all the way like maybe 5-8cm.

            • @Pikaloo: So that sensor is plastic and so its not really 100% plastic free boiling? would be better off with the 5000 series ?

              • @vid_ghost: It looks metal to me. and correction lid opens all the way you just need to push it open.

      • same

    • +1

      Yeah mine also didn’t last

Never owned this kettle can't comment, I saw a suggestion in another kettle deal about Xiaomi kettle 2 pro so purchased that from Aliexpress. I paid around $70 so purely sharing as an option.

    Personal experience:
Owned the Xiaomi for few weeks been happy so far, it looks good in my kitchen, and it is quiet and quicker to boil water comparing to my previous stainless-steel kettle, and not hot at all when holding it.

Downside is the buttons are in Chinese but only two of them (one to boil one to heat up to preset temp) so not too bad once figured out. And it is too quiet including the finishing beeping sound when kids are around.

    • +2

Would you please share the link? Thank you.

      • It is still $70 I waited until Aliexpress had their regular saving promo and stacked with cashback back then. Roughly paid about $63. Enjoy!

Another downside, it doesn't have a window so can't tell how much water in the kettle

        • Any plastic touching the water?

          • @ZJack: I can't see any, inside are all steel including the lid

    • Hows the boiling time? It's only 1700W vs 2200W of the Russel Hobbs one.

      • Surprised me it takes less time boiling comparing to my old kettle.

    • Does it have an AU plug? Or is it just an adaptor plug that comes with it?

      • Well, it is sort of AU plug. It can be pluged in the wall socket but I cant reach the socket switch because the cable is in the way. And yes it also comes with an adaptor.

        • That'll be Chinese, and lacking the insulating strips on the active/neutral plug.

I had one. It was absolute rubbish. Lasted a few months. Lid broke. The whole kettle is thin, light weight rubbish. Before that I had a breville temperature controlled kettle that lasted 15 years. Waiting for my new breville to be delivered now. It’s a lot more expensive.
I though Hobbs was a decent brand - seems not.

  • +3

As everyone is saying what a rubbish product this is, want to say the opposite. Our one has been working for 4 years now and not a single problem. Used around 5 times a day for tea and cooking. Great product.

  • +2

It's a good kettle while it lasts, sadly, I had two and both only lasted two years.

    • Hmm mine has been going for 7 years and counting!

  • My experience: Bought this at the end of 2020 and it's still going. Not the fastest kettle in the world, but does the job.

    • I've had mine about a year longer than you, and yep, still going, still works well.

  • I've had this since Mar 2024, great kettle - no complaints.

  • Had this kettle for a while, great temperature options and it boils pretty quick. Like someone else has commented, the buttons do slowly wear out but really not an issue.

  • Better than the Brooklyn?

    • +1

We have the brooklyn it sprung a leak around the base after about 2 weeks. I contacted amazon about it and they told me to deal with Russell Hobbs. So i bought a new kettle from TGG and after a couple of weeks took the original one back to them. No problems with the replacement and now we have a spare

  • Been using this for a while and had no issues. If I can get past 2 years without a drama, all good!

  • +2

This kettle was pretty good but stopped working after a couple of years for me.

I would not particularly recommend this kettle.

  • Use daily over last 3 years, no issues

I like the beep tones it has and the blue lights on the buttons, maybe they'll be RGB next iteration

  • This is a great kettle. My then gf bought this 7 years ago, we are married for 4 now and it's still our daily do it all kettle. Hasn't missed a beat! Yes the numbers do rub off, but if you use it enough, you remember what the buttons represent.

    • They updated it so it's lasered or something. But yeah, they used to rub off with a cloth. Been fixed since 2024.

  • +1

My cheap spotlight home brand kettle doesn't switch off when it boils anymore, just started doing that, so if I'm going to replace it, I want something decent, and don't mind paying for quality

Comments above seem mixed, good and bad

  • +1

I had one outer layer started rusting after a few months. I don't recommend this one

    • This is true

  • This tracked at 46.36 on cashrewards :(

    • That's correct, tracks ex gst. It should take it into account for the challenge, I know ShopBack does (only requires a $45 spend, when it says $50).

      Terms say:

a minimum spend of $50 (including GST).
