$45 Cashback on Approved HSBC Everyday Global Account Application @ ShopBack

182

With 2% instant cashback for purchases under $100 (up to $50 per month)
HSBC global debit card is one of the best debit card for day to day spending
IMO its valued even better than most rewards points earning credit cards

Currently, shopback is running a $45 cashback promo for any approved Everyday Global Account

Below are some notes about this card:

  • 2% instant cashback are only for purchases on tap and pay (eg. apple pay / google pay) less than $100 (you can request for split payment in most merchants)
  • it requires to deposit $2000 per month to the account, but you are free to withdraw out anytime
  • HSBC global debit card has no international transaction fee, and can be used to withdraw cash from overseas ATM too
  • the foreign exchange rate is slightly worse than normal visa/mastercard (I normally only use as a backup card while spending overseas)

  • This referral seems wrong, or is it okay to put SB referral for the HSBC product, given they don't have a referral system?

  • I find the rates surprise me with how low they are, even after mentally calculating it. And there's no clear understanding of what the rate is, it doesn't seem to be the same as on their website.

Tried to apply on S25 phone through shopback app. After giving all my details to HSBC, including identification, i recieved an error "this device is not supported".

    • -3

A technical problem on your end is not really a reason for a neg. You aren't required to apply on your phone and as far as I know the HSBC app does not limit which devices you can use with it.

      • +2

Voting guidelines > negative vote > issue with the retailer.

Terminology is broad but according to the guidelines my neg is valid - happy for a mod to jump in and clarify guidelines.

Youre assuming issue is with my device. Further comments below suggest others are experiencing errors also.

      • I had this exact same error occur for me, on a Redmi14C. Gave all of my details, then told "this device is not supported.".

Weren’t these used to be $100 bonus?

    • Damn dont know how i missed that

    • Not for quite a few years, and that was direct from HSBC not cashback.

  • Error.

    We are experiencing technical difficulties

  • Still an error

  • The no international transaction fee is a real selling point on this account.

I had a quick google but couldn't see any info, is HSBC part of OSKO? I don't mind the $2k deposit limit but having it transferred it back out using non-OSKO payment would be so annoying.

Just did a payment from HSBC to CBA yesterday, took 30 seconds only
Last week, did another payment from Westpac to HSBC and took 2 days to clear
So looks like outbound payment is fast, but inbound transaction can be slow

      • That's really interesting. Thanks for sharing.

      • I think it might depend on the sending bank:

Ubank shows on the final payment screen whether the payment will be OSKO or not. Until about March this year I could send to HSBC via OSKO from Ubank, then it disappeared, now I have to send to another bank from Ubank, thence on to HSBC.

        • I had a similar problem last year. Worked around it via Beem.

The problem then stopped by itself at some point.

      • Both inbound and outbound can randomly be slow in my experience, although such occasions are fortunately rare.

    • If no international transaction fees is the only selling point you care about, Macquarie is better in the sense that you don't have to make monthly deposits. It's also fast with transfers in and out.

This card is only good for the cashback (and the sign up bonus).

Good thing is, why not both?

    • In my experience, transfers in and out are done pretty much instantly.
No issues with ING, Macquarie and Hiver/Unibank experienced.

    • +1

HSBC uses their internal FX rate for some currencies which is much worse than the Visa/Mastercard rate

    • Don't think they support Osko but they do support SCT fast payments. Sending fast payments can only be done within their app, not their web interface.
And you can only ever install their app on one device at a time.

So long as your sending/receiving bank isn't Osko only (some support one or the other, some support both Osko and SCT) you should be able to receive and send instantly (I do this with Macquarie <-> HSBC)

They don't support PayID at all so you can only use BSB/Account for transfers in or out.

Also OP, you may want to clarify the $2000 deposit requirement. This only required to activate the Extras (ie 2% cashback) for the next month, not maintain the account.

  • Ok, I signed up within some minutes and account was quickly approved. I will report back, if the Cashback will be tracked and approved as well.

  • does it show the cashback as $45 for anyone else on SB link?

  • SB website only showing $45 CB, not $50

    • it was $50 when I posted, seems SB has decreased the cashback, updated the title now

      • That reflects negatively on SB :)

  • So I used to have a login for an old credit card. It has detected this so does it matter that I'm not a new customer?

    • @gotyourback can you confirm? ^^

      • Sorry I missed your comment earlier! I’m checking with the team now to get more info on this. I’ll update you as soon as I have an answer! 😊

  • I signed up, account approved. CB tracked at 0 saying it is ineligible. I started a request. @gotyourback it should be $50 cashback.

Hey everyone! 👋 Just a quick clarification on the HSBC offer:

✅ If you saw the cashback rate as \$50 when you signed up, you’ll still receive the full \$50.
✅ If you saw it as \$45, then \$45 will be the correct amount for your transaction.

The rates displayed at the time of your clickthrough were accurate, and your cashback will reflect that. Thanks for the patience and support! 💚

    • Cheers, SB fixed the error of my $0 tracking and adjusted it to $50.

    • Is this only available to new HSBC customers?

    • Hi @gotyourback, I signed up when it was $50 but the tracked amount shows $0. Could you please assist?

      • Thanks for letting us know! 🙌 I totally understand the amount is showing as $0 right now. No worries though it’ll update once the validation is complete and approved.

Appreciate your patience, and if you need anything else, just let me know!

        • Hey mate, mine is also showing at $0 as well. Do you know when this will get updated?

          • @delonnot: Thanks for checking in if your cashback is currently showing as $0, no worries. The amount will be adjusted once the validation is completed.

  • Dang already expired

  • I got a notification today for this offer and was thinking about doing it. However, I'd prefer to do on a desktop machine. When trying to find HSBC on the ShopBack website though, I can't seem to find it? Is it there or is search broken?

    • Same issue for me. I got a notification on my phone, opened it and started the process to sign up through the SB app. HSBC got all my details and then the id verification failed as I got the not supported device error.

Now I can't find the offer in the SB when searching however it is visible in the offers carousel in the app but I cannot click on it

      • Same here. There is a banner ad in the App for it but tapping it doesn't do anything. Google 'HSBC Shopback' and you'll see it in the search results:

        'ShopBack
        https://www.shopback.com.au
HSBC Bank | $45 Cashback, Discount Codes & Vouchers'

Click on that result and it opens the ShopBack App with the HSBC page to do the application and says 'Casback Activated' at the top so I assume it should track.

Issue being that you can't see the terms in ShopBack so not sure if the offer has expired or not.

        @gotyourback can you confirm?

        • My lord, this sign up process is horrendous. Keep getting technical difficulties and if not that I select passport and it says enter a valid passport number with no field to enter.

          • @czechboi: Now getting this device is not supported lol.

Not even worth the hassle at this point

  • Can confirm the issue with ID verification sits with Shopback. When trying to do it through the app as part of the HSBC sign up process it fails saying the device is not supported

If I go directly to the HSBC website directly through chrome browser and I can access the id verification system no issues

  • This is such a scam. I got the notification for it on my phone on Sunday. Got all the way through the application in the Shopback app (showing that the casback was being tracked) only to get the "Device is not supported" at the end.

Tried Shopback support but they have some useless AI that was no help. Promised to get someone to contact me but 2 days later no contact. I have "Shopback+" which supposedly gives you faster support… it's a lie.
