Seller description:

WD Purple drives are engineered specifically for surveillance to help withstand the elevated heat fluctuations and equipment vibrations within NVR environments. An average desktop drive is built to run for only short intervals, not the harsh 24/7 always-on environment of a high-definition surveillance system. With WD Purple, you get reliable, surveillance-class storage that’s tested for compatibility in a wide range of security systems, and some of our latest models (WD22PURZ, WD42PURZ, and WD63PURZ) have improved power efficiency. Exclusive AllFrame™ technology helps reduce frame loss and improve overall video playback.

Good pricing, but for anyone considering the 8Tb, there's the Pro version of this hard drive for $50 more here: https://cplonline.com.au/wd-purple-pro-wd8002purp-3-5-7200rp…

There's big differences between the above version and the Pro. Triple the data workload rate (durability), more than double data transfer speed, and additional warranty.
    Definitely worth the $50 extra.

For those with Reolink 8-channel NVR, consider this to add another HDD

I bought this SATA power splitter cable - $3.75

    • -2

      So you can add two?

      • You can add one for a total of two.

I thought you could only add an external drive to the eSata port at the back.

          • +1

@jv: Normally you connect your drive to that with an external enclosure and external power supply which can cost a bit of money. That eSATA port is connected to the motherboard with a standard SATA connector. So all he is doing in the video is connecting straight to the motherboard and sharing power from the current HDD. Good alternative if you don't want to have another power supply and expensive connection/enclosure. HDD still has to go outside though.

    • Woah nice! I didn’t know you could do this. I’ve got an 8-channel & some spare drives. I’ll have to give this a shot

    Good deal for Prince

    • Do you mean ֆ?

  • What if you used it as a normal hard drive, worth?

    • It is a 'normal' hard drive.

    • No issue, but its overkill for that.

It's designed to be on 24/7 and constantly writing and re-writing.

      Nah get a 8TB blue for $199

      • Link? If this is from the other day, I think its gone up now…

        • Amazon, it bobs up and down.

          • @DingoBlue: Was going to pull the trigger but just missed out! I'm constantly refreshing!!!

            • @kranoath: Ah I think it's more of a monthly bobbing. Check the camels.

              • @DingoBlue: But I want it now! Even put the credit into my Amazon account :(

                Thanks bud.

  • What is the diffrence compared to a NAS drive ?

  • Can I use this in a NAS instead?

    • you can, but you are paying for features you don't need. Better of getting a regular drive for NAS use.
