20% on top would be a sweet deal

There is a rumor the Pixel 10 Pro range will be released on the 13th August for those wondering. I'm hoping the P9P's XL will go sub $1k before then.

    • It is nearly below 1k for the 128gb

      • If you were lucky enough to be sent a code by JB

    • I bought one for my wife from JB a couple weeks ago for $866. Gotta use those sweet Telstra sign up deals, then cancel the phone plan.

      • +1

Same. I see this price, I laugh. 😁

      • Can you tell me how to do this? The instructions always confuse me

        • The instructions always confuse me

Why? Buy phone. Call testra, cancel plan. done.

      • Did that when it first came out.

        I brought the 255GB

From memory it was $200 deposit + 99 for first month's plan + 800 for breaking the contract and I got a $300 JB gift card.

So $800 if we discount the gift card.

  • +5

The price it should have been

    • +2

$300 more than it should have been

When oh when will they finally kill off 128GB models? It's a piddling amount of storage for modern phones. And I have no idea how much storage OS and bloatware take out of that 128GB, either.

    • +3

Cannot understand why you got negged. Your comment is extremely fair and very relevant. Upvote from me.

      • I've had my phone for over two years and have used 153GB of my space.

    • +6

I'm happy with 128GB if it's cheaper. I don't play mobile games, and copy my photos off after each holiday, so never go above 64GB usage really.

      • +1

Mines at app 30GB. All photos/videos are keep in NAS.

    • +5

Like you, I have plenty of adult movies on my phone and I have only used 83Gb .. along with about 150 apps.

      • Do you like to watch those on your commute?

        • No, only the audio if in public places

      • +1

I, too, have John Wick on my phone

      • +1

Last year Fujifilm enabled .raw and .jpeg wifi transfers from my X-T5, and while I will neither confirm or deny whether that camera was used for adult content, I can tell you each .raw file is around 80MB and the .jpeg file is 25MB, so 10 photos = 1GB. Multi-shot settings for action sequences will take 3, 5 or 10 photos per button-press, so it adds up fast!

    • Cloud storage.

    • +3

Since when having choice is bad for consumers?

  • Can we use trade-in with this deal since trade-in .

  • +2

Thanks for the heads up, mate.

I've been looking to upgrade my 7 Pro (2.5 years and the battery isn't doing it for me anymore. Otherwise, a great phone).

I've been eyeing the 9 Pro XL for a couple of months and have now just purchased it with the 20% code. Coupled with TRS when I travel next month, it's not a bad price at all.

    • Same 7 pro. The battery life has never satisfied me since day 1. Missus was on 6a at the same time, and its battery life was stupidly longer. So far 7 pro's batter life is the worst among all pixels I've ever used, even worse than my old 2 XL. Definitely looking for an upgrade but I'll hold until 10's release in August.

  • Decent phone but is at the end of its cycle, considering it was available for just $865.67 through the JB Hi-Fi plan combined with the ozbargain way last month.

    • Never was keen going on a plan because you end up paying more.

      • +3

Hence the ozbargain way. That price was from paying for the first month and cancelling the plan. I took advantage of it myself. Outlined in the comments here if you want to take advantage of it for future JB Hi-Fi plans: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/904861

        • +1

Ok thanks. Seems like a good way to get a cheap phone

    • +5

$865.67 + a dent in your credit rating (only small ~30 point for me). Any form of credit (phone plans, credit cards, loans etc) will do this. They are seen as a liability in the eyes of lenders and could impact someone with an already not so good rating when going for a home loan.

      • Ouch, cheers didn't know that.

      • +3

@Froot Loops said same on the fold deal and got heaps of neg. No idea why I got so many neg when trying to warn.
Mine just back up again after 6 months.
But went down 82 on my Illion. Experian nothing.

        • +1

I had plus 5 votes and am clearly being downvoted as well. People really need to learn how credit scores work. I was told if I close my credit card, it would take a year to recover, so 6 months on a phone contract (after it finishes) makes sense. People can easily do their own research, I'm (like you did) are just trying to bring attention to this. You'll find it may become a problem with very low interest rate loans (could land someone in a situation they end up with a higher interest rate on their loan).

Going down 82 points is brutal (especially if you have a great rating)

          • @Froot Loops: Yeah, I do have a very good/great rating (again) on both Illion and Experian after it went back up. No idea why it went down so much because of a phone. Won't post it again though lol. Probably shouldn't even made a comment on yours. Gave you up vote.

      • +1

If someone is borrowing from a lender that looks at the score only and it's that tenuous, it's possibly a good thing they're not getting 100s of 1000s of dollars.

        • The score is an indicator to your risk. Some banks are black and white, others are more understandable and flexible. Normally ultra low interest loan, require a very good credit rating. I've even been told to close my credit card account (even thought I run with a positive balance. They stated the fact I have the ability to access debt, is a risk.

I don't agree with how it works, but I'm not the lender.

          • -2

@Froot Loops: I'm don't agree either and I know how it works. If people are borrowing for a house loan and get knocked back for a credit check on a phone deal, they are probably being saved from themselves.

      • Interesting point. I was planning on getting two plans today and cancel right away, would that also have a dent on my credit score?

        • +1

@ar7ist it will most likely have a dent on Illion as there is where Telstra report it too. Mine stayed for 6.months. makes a dent because credit/Telco enquiry. To cancel doesn't affect it. Just the initial application. Almost like getting a credit card. It can occur more cost and signing up for $99/month. Not sure how they calculate it. Some posts say it doesn't affect but in my experience and lot of others it will. I did it 7 or so months ago. On new report it said something like "no Telco enquiry last 6 months". If not getting a bigger purchase next 6 months or so no issue. And even so some lenders might be lenient. Don't get a cheap phone just to risk it though.

          • @Mikael: Thanks for the info.

I was planning to buy 2 x iPhone 16 pro max 512gb. I could ask JB to price match it to Coscto/Triforce to bring it down to 2199. Then use 7% off Ultimate gc from Amazon and then TRS.

So it might end up costing $1,830 with this calc.

But if I get a plan, currently a store rep told me that I could get a $1100 GC, so that would bring it down to $1770. Dont know if its worth a credit check to save $60.

    • +4

End of its cycle? It came out less than a year ago and will get many years of support. Sure a new one is coming soon, but it’s still a good phone

      • +1

13 August 2024, so 10 months ago. They offer 5 years of android upgrades and 7 years of security. Much longer than 99% of people will use the phone for.

  • +3

Yeah the only time to purchase phones is on release with promos and cashback

  • +4

Telstra's got a deal for $500 off the outright price of the 9 Pro XL and $850 off RRP on a 12/24/36 month plan, which works out to $95.74 X 12 months = $1148.88 for the 256gb or $998.88 for the 128gb. I'm not sure if you need an existing Telstra plan to tack it onto or if you can purchase it on a payment plan on its own though.

    • +1

The 128 was 699 outright a month ago from Telstra.

  • The OS is great, nice and clean (ahem Samsung bloatware). CPU is the downside. Running anything CPU intense will take some time (including 50mp image, where my old S23U didnt even blink an eye).

Wish Samsung rolls out the ultra spec in a smaller form factor.

    • For everyday tasks, the P9PXL is more responsive than S25 Ultra (but not for heavy processing tasks of course).

    • It has Bluetooth connection problems on cars. It'll just cut out and try to catch-up.

I'm sure it has something to do with switching towers as well.

Many people have this complaint with this phone.

Hoping the new update fixes it.

  • +1

The Pixel 9 Pro XL really is a fantastic phone .. I have owned all the Galaxy Ultra's and Pixels for the last 5 years and the P9PXL is amazing.

    • Would this take better photos than the iPhone 16 pro max?

    • Why? Care to elaborate please?

      • everything just works great .. software is bug-free, performance is great and very responsive than bloated Galaxy, speakerphone calls are louder max volume, camera and video are at the top end, screen is great .. there's really nothing to complain about.

I'm not an anti-Samsung guy .. I've bought all of them, but the Pixel is simple, fast, hassle-free, no complaints.

  • My Pixel 9 screen died after 6 months. Was my second pixel to have screen issues. Sold the warranty replacement and bought a Xiaomi 15, which I've found to be a much better phone.

    • Surely you must have done something different ? In my whole life owning phones, never once screen just died out of nowhere.. Not to mention you had it happened twice in short period of time. Even my 2 yrs old pixel 7 had no issues.

      • I treated both Pixels very well, they looked like new. It's the only brand of phones I've ever owned that were defective like this. The "green line" screen issue of Pixel 9 series is well known.

    • Was it the green line problem? My P9P developed it at 7 months. JB gave me a refund via GC, so I'm deciding whether to try the 9 again using this deal or wait for the 10.

      • Yep it was the green line. Having been burned twice now, I'll be steering clear of Pixels.

  • +3
    • Good catch but I would still try getting coupon still as that would be cheaper again.

  • Waiting for this to go below 1k

  • Sucks this don't have dual nano sim and esim at the same time like global version for S25 Ultra.

  • +1

20% code from JB and then paying by ultimate cards saving further 10% !!!
    Cracker of a deal.

    Thanks OP

    • Is there an ultimate gc deal at the moment?

      • yeah, buy GC from coles at 10% discount. Most fo 100 and 50 worth are gone.

also, there is a limit of 5 cards per flybuys account per day.
grab new flybuy card application from coles till and use them to buy 5 each. I used a mix of 50 and 30 cardsa today at jb :)

  • Dangit, I want that targetted coupon.

  • Can I port my phone and get $900 voucher from jb and then buy this phone with the voucher and cancel the plan later?

  • +1

I spoke to JB Hi-fi today. One team member said it was a limited randomised lottery type code that was sent out.
Another team member from customer service, not sales, said that not all the emails have gone out yet and will be in the next day or so.

  • This will most certainly be targeted to those who have been logged in and spent time on the Pixel 9 product pages on the JB Hi-Fi website.

I say this because I’ve been working in marketing for +16 years and that’s most companies do it…and also because I’ve been doing the above behavior and received a code which I used - the bast4rds got me 😅

    • But I don't check P9 and yet I still get the code. So you are 50% at this point of time.

  • +1

Still no code for me, very annoying

    • +1

      Ditto. Sigh.

  • hopefully they bring back the $0 upfront deal for the p9p xl

  • Does anyone know if we could use trade in coupon on top of the 20% off code?

    • Trade-ins come as eGift vouchers and you can use multiple eGift vouchers on top of the coupon.

      • Thanks mate

  • -2

Anyone got a coupon? How to get one?

  • Still no code :)
