  • great. bought 2
    thanks

  • Assuming this can be used in most restaurants?

    • thats exactly what i was wanting to know. the website doesnt specify the list of merchants.

    • +2

      Most, but not all.

This is explained further in this FAQ. The permitted MCCs on the gift card in this deal are listed in a comment further down.

FYI - at GABS beer festival last week I tried using Pub & Bar and Restaurant Choice but neither worked as all I tried were MCC 5499.

I thought I tried more but looks like I only failed on three occasions before giving up. Details:

Jervis Bay Brewing (this was actually a while ago on premises)
        Heron Beverages
        Broulee Brewhouse
        Good Land Brewing

        • Good to know!

I recently tried using a Restaurant Choice gift card at a football club's restaurant using MCC 7997 (Clubs: Country Clubs, Membership (Athletic, Recreation, Sports), Private Golf Courses), but it was declined. I only found out the MCC when I contacted Blackhawk Network support about the decline transaction (and they also explained that MCC is specifically blocked on those gift cards).

Gift Card Where is this gift card accepted?

Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance. (Please refer to this table for more information.)
    • quite a wide range

  • Do these work like good food gc? Where you just add to Apple Pay like a debit card?

    • +1

      yes

    • +2

this one has a wider merchant range than good food

      • but works in the same way, load to your apple/google pay wallet & tap.

    • except these are classed as a payment method, like a debit card and so can incur fees when using tap, esp at bars and restaurants that have a fee to use cards…usually between 0.5% and 1%. I always tell Meat and Wine it is a restaurant choice or Best Restaurants and they don't charge the fee, but you have to tell them

Throwback to 2.5yrs ago when 20% off was a mid deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740514

The deal right before this was $60 for a $100 card.

    • I bought a few from the $60 for a $100 deal. I still have the card with a few dollars left

    • yes, the 20% off deals direct through their website were the best!…sometimes they used to do 15% off as well. Unfortunately since they stopped selling direct the deals are much less.

  • Nice

  • -8

Can it be stacked with any cashbacks?

    • Why did you ask a question and then neg the deal?

      • He probably missed out

  • +2

You can not use this code any more

  • +1

I got You can not use this code any more

  • +1

    Anyone getting this error?
"You can not use this code any more"

  • To answer all your questions:

The card can be used at any restaurant that accepts Visa. Occasionally, a restaurant may be registered with its EFTPOS provider under a different category—such as “grocery” or “general retail.” In those rare cases, the transaction might be declined.

Fortunately, only a very small number of merchants have this incorrect classification. In practice, the card should be accepted at about 99 % of restaurants, hotels, pubs, parks, and similar venues.

  • I managed to get in there for a $600 one ($60 off)

  • Damn, expired as I was entering the promo

  • So much for Offer runs from 9am AEST 06/06/2025 to 06/06/25 11.59pm AEST

    • +1

in small print, only while stocks last. I think there might have been quite a lot that were doing the max amount. I managed to get a $600 one just before it finished

      • Restaurant owners putting it through their own eftpos machines?

        • ?

        • But then have to pay tax

  • Managed to get $1k.. thanks OP - great deal!

  • seems like they have exhausted the allocation already? That was fast….must have been quite a few maxing out the deal. It normally lasts for hours longer than this

  • What inflation? Everyone is dining out!

    • this helps to cover the cost of inflation..

      • Sounds fair. But dining out has become so expensive these days. 40-50% higher than 4 years ago

  • +3

The issue with the card is no app to quickly check balance

    • I always just down the card info and keep it somewhere to check. I also add the balance as the nickname so it is easier to keep track of what is left

    • +2

      agreed. TCN app is better

  • Will Giftz be treated as purchase or cash advance? I paid with citi credit card.

    • it should be classed as a purchase, but check it in a few days to see how they treated it. One time Bankwest treated my restaurant choice purchase as a cash advance, but I didn't realise until later. I rang them to complain and they refunded the cash advance fees/interest fees, but I had to pay my whole balance off straight away to get rid of it still being classed as a cash advance

    • It depends on how your credit card issuer has decided to treat Giftz as a merchant.

If your credit card issuer has decided to always treat Giftz itself as a cash advance, you are buggered.

If your credit card issuer has decided to not treat Giftz itself as a cash advance, it then depends on how you checked out on Giftz:

      • If you used the credit/debit card option, Apple Pay option or Google Pay option, the MCC assigned to that transaction should be 5947 (Card, Gift, Novelty, and Souvenir Shops). If the credit card issuer treats that MCC as a cash advance, you are buggered. If not, you should be fine.

      • If you used the PayPal option, the MCC assigned to that transaction should be 6012 (Merchandise and Services: Customer Financial Institution). That sounds like something that should always be treated as a cash advance, but again, it comes down to how your credit card provider treats it. CommBank and Bankwest appear to treat such transactions as cash advances.

      • Purchased commbank - google pay - "shopping" category

      • I had a chat with citi online chat and they're not sure, so I've just paid all outstanding balance now. Annoying.

    • Citi should be fine. CBA is known to treat 6012 as cash advance if you are paying via Paypal.

  • already ozbargained

    • have to say this sold out ultra fast this time

      • prob limited stock as usual

  • Argh missed out!!
