  • Why has the cost of Protein increased substantially?

    • +4

Cause we are getting ripped off by the ridiculous RRP & they discount based on that .

Gains are coming from everywhere bro!

Protein powder prices have increased substantially.
I can still get steak at about the same price as 5 years ago and I don't think the protein content has changed. Milk has gone up but not nearly as much as protein powders.
My guess is there's only a few suppliers so they're just testing how far they can push prices to improve profits. Substitution options are either real food (but at the cost of convenience) or vegan proteins (with lower DIAAS that are not advertised on the products) but higher profit margins. So protein powder companies could be tempting you to turn to soy or pea protein which is even more profitable for them.

Pure price gouging from key producers or wholesalers. Milk prices haven't increased that much.

Made the switch to pea protein during the last CW half price sale. Taste is fine. No indigestion either. Protein content is high. Just hope it's effective.

        • Yeah I'm on the Plant Protein too, digests better but even the Plant Protein powders are really expensive $135/2kg!

          • @cityloop: Inc 2kg $45 at CW 2 weeks ago. Ingredients look pretty clean also.
            Picked up two tubs.

        • Can you get much out of pea protein? Im new to all this and looking at powders as we speak

          • @BatmanAU: There are studies and articles discussing this. In the end personal results matter most. So my answer is IDK.
Plant based has less aminos and slightly higher fat content, and less protein per gram.

I'm willing to give it a go due to price paid.

        • Casein also good option.

    • Musashi is just expensive, everything is getting more expensive though.

  • For a product that's called 'Shred and Burn' and has sucralose, i can't understand where the 11% sugar content comes from.

  • Price of protein powder is getting stupidly & ridiculously expensive.

Although I still use it, I'm cutting back at least 30%

Soon we'll be asked to pay $100 per kilo

Waiting for an Amino Z deal.

    • This

    • +2

Their last deal was on 26/12/2024

Usually they have deals every 2 - 3 months.

I have been waiting too, but something is going on with Amino Z, maybe they're not profitable with their OzBargain deals.

  • Shows as $120 for me
