    • Ugh, I'm just going through this with them. They sent me a bunch of troubleshooting steps (all basic and already tried, but humoured them and went through it all again) and then they agreed it must be faulty and it's more convenient if I just take it up with the manufacturer… I'm more tempted to take it up with my credit card issuer to persue a chargeback

      • That's good, although I believe they still need to accept the return and deal with the manufacturer/supplier, unless you choose to do it yourself.

In my case, they insisted me to try the same steps again and again, and then also blaming user error, like I mistakenly ticked some settings to prevent my laptop from charging (I bought a USB-C charger), which doesn't make sense. I know my laptop very well, and it's been charging alright with other chargers I have (including from the same brand but different model), using the same cable. I've also tried with a bunch of other cables, too, all gave me the same result.

  • @AHUANG It's my 26th birthday too! I agree that it should be 26% off.

Hey moderator can we close this deal move it to the folder of broken deals.

Yep prices of items k follow have been jacked…

    • +6

Geez, some of these are pretty blatant. Seems like the OP and store rep gave up defending it.

  • +13

Prices jacked and this tightarse guy wants to ask for links amd evidence. Well there is evidence as previously pointed out. This guys sold his soul for money or what?

    • I'm hoping it's just his username he sold.

On the OzBargain forum, the percentage of the discount doesn’t mean much — what matters is the final price. You could advertise something as 90% off, and it could still be a bad deal. Instead of promoting a 10% sitewide discount, it might be better to highlight specific items that are actually worth posting on the OzBargain forum.

    • +1

Pretty much. The items these days are all dynamically priced, the rrp is irrelevant. 10% off, 10% off what exactly? Final price is all we care about. Some might have been jacked, some might have been good deals. Don't be lazy and just list the deals. But that's not the point is it? They want these limited time sales to induce FOMO.

The prices of a lot of items have been jacked, even though the store representative keeps denying it.

Awful stuff, and tightarse's defence is embarrassing.

  • Couldn't really see any deals…

Disappointing to see all the price jacking :(

  • Price jacking aside, as someone just browsing for things I'd like to buy the prices just aren't good even after 10% off. It's not really close either, just completely off the mark compared to Amazon/etc.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to jump in as the rep from Mobileciti to clarify a few things.

We have no intention or plan to increase prices specifically for this sale. Any price changes you may have seen are simply the result of normal promotion cycles ending and new ones starting, which is pretty standard across the retail space — you’ll notice the same pattern with Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi, and Harvey Norman.

On a personal note — I’ve been an OzBargain member since 2008. I genuinely love this community, and we’ve been incredibly grateful to have over a thousand people support us through the years. There’s absolutely no value or reason for us to do wrong by the community that helped us grow.

One thing I’m quite disappointed about is the negativity towards TA (tightarse). He does all his posts independently, and more importantly straight from the heart. Contrary to some of the comments and suggestions on here, he’s never asked or taken any payment or kickbacks from us or any other retailer. His morals are higher than most. Many of you have met him in person and probably know him better than I do, so I’m sure you can attest to his standing in this community.

We really appreciate the community’s sharp eyes and feedback — it helps us stay accountable and improve.

Thanks for keeping the standards high — we’re always open to feedback and happy to engage transparently.

    Cheers!

      • You're new here. TA previously worked for Cashrewards and was declared as a store rep. Rep deals are allowed here (with restrictions), while anyone sharing affiliate links is banned. TA certainly doesn't sockpuppet.

In fact anyone who thinks he is sockpuppeting should report it to the mods. Making false accusations isn't welcome here.

jv has a long history of attacking TA where possible. Certainly 10 years or longer

          • @Bigfellaborham: You know I'm talking about sockpuppeting right? Accusing TA of being paid off would be an accusation of sockpuppeting, or not declaring himself as a store rep. He doesn't work for Mobileciti and he's not being paid to post.

          • @Bigfellaborham: Keep trolling buddy.

First I’ve heard of a hurdle of abuse. Is that an event at the olympics?

              • @Bigfellaborham: Prove that he's sockpuppeting, or perhaps let's go a step back and tell us what it is.

                  • @Bigfellaborham:

Hasn’t this Tight Ass bloke openly spoken about making an income from Cashrewards and other retail associated business via affiliate links. Isn’t that by definition taking payment from retailers? Not just a little, but to the extent of being a full time job?

This is what I replied to. He's not sockpuppeting, affiliate links are banned on OzBargain (automatically removed) and he doesn't work for Cashrewards and hasn't for a long time.

Free speech and feedback on a bad deal aren’t really your thing, are they.

                    Only when it's untruthful.

                      • @Bigfellaborham: TA was CCO at Cashrewards and was declared as a store rep, as per the OzBargain rules. Aaron is suggesting that he doesn't take money or kickbacks for his non-rep deals (like this) and it's true.

                          • @Bigfellaborham: Take it or leave it. TA worked for CR and was paid as such. He was declared as a rep, as is required. For non rep deals he doesn't take kickbacks, which others here have suggested otherwise.

                                  • @Bigfellaborham: Your original comment was far less descriptive than it is now. jv's troll reply to TA asking for proof of price jacking (reasonable request) is just fueling the witch hunt.

                                      • @Bigfellaborham: As I said earlier. jv has a history of attacking TA stretching at least 10 years. It's more than a joke.

                                          • @Bigfellaborham: Deal wasn't the best that's not my issue. Did I upvote? Just false accusations from some people.

I'm glad my mobileciti deal went well. It was a good bargain.

                                              • @Bigfellaborham: This is a bit of a troll comment in the heat of things.

First I’ve heard of a hurdle of abuse. Is that an event at the olympics?

                        • @Clear: I am not suggesting or implying anything, but how do you know what's true and what's not? How can you be so confident?

    • -1

OzBargain witch hunt. It only takes 1 neg and then all hell breaks loose. Especially those who felt the need to hurdle abuse at TA and have a history of it. Disgusting behaviour that shouldn't happen here to any members of the community.

This whole thread has been a hilarious s**tshow. It's striking how deeply the OzB community feels about price jacking.

Personally I am on the fence as to whether the examples found here are natural 'promotion cycles' or actual price jacking. Certainly the OP came off a bit too strong against the people who pointed out examples of price increases leading into this promo, as evidenced by his deleted posts.

But as an individual consumer it should highlight the value of price trackers like the one I linked earlier in the thread. At the end of the day most of us are just trying get as low as possible a price and if we know the price history, it doesn't matter what pricing games are being played (if any).

    • both TA and the rep continuously denied price jacking. price jacking just prior to a sale is a deceptive sales technique. being surprised that ozb "feels deeply" about it is hilarious.

a post with some actual bargains listed would have gone much better. there used to be a ozbargain deal posting rule that the post must actually include a bargain

      • I didn't say I was surprised though? Just that there was a pretty striking backlash to this deal. Maybe the reps were the surprised ones..

My main point was simply that if you can use a price tracker then sales techniques are irrelevant.

A few people used the tracker I suggested earlier and it proved useful here. If the usage was more widespread then at least non-bargains would be called out more regularly and easily. But it is up to consumers to use it and not take things at face value.

You will need to be able to show an invoice carrying an ABN, perhaps ask the seller if they can generate an invoice for you
      safe travels : )

      • Thank you!

  • Doesn't appear to be 10% off everything. For example the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro project bundle when added to cart doesn't show a 10% discount.

    • Helps if you apply the code.
