  • The hub need to be in centre of all those infrared devices, right?

That's the hope. I would put it in the location where IR visibility of my target devices is relevent.

So if I have a room with a tv, Nvidia Shield, and split system aircon, I would put it somewhere in line-of-sight of all of them (that's the hope for what I'm trying to do anyway).

    • The signal it puts out is strong. I've got one stuck to the wall behind my couch (towards the top of the couch, but not above it). There is no line of sight between the hub and the TV, but it still works - presumably via the signal bouncing off the walls/windows. My AC is directly above the hub, but that works too (not sure if the hub puts out a signal on the sides or if that one is reflecting off something too.

The app isn't great. You can learn functions, but you can't control the layout in the app. Latency also isn't good - there's maybe a 1-3 second lag between pressing the button on the app and the TV reacting.

If you just want an IR blaster, there's going to better options. If you're using other SwitchBot stuff, this works fine as both a hub and an IR.

Have a few broadlink ones. The software with broadlink is average but when connected to Alexa etc you can avoid. The good thing I have found about broadlink is the database it has of devices so you don't need to manually program. Would be interesting to see how big the db is on this one

    • Only issue with broad link is the lack of home assistant support

I seem to remember linking broadlink integration into HA, has it been discontinued?

        • It's been a while but I'm pretty sure Broadlink support is done through the HACS repository which is "unofficial".

EDIT: I wiped my gboard data and boy I thought it was bad before

      • I'm using my broadlink device with HA. Works flawlessly.

What I like about the rm4 mini+sensor cable (cheaper around $31-32) is that the latter is a temperature and humidity sensor, so one can set a schedule to activate the air cond when a certain temp is reached.

The new Tapo version of this looks promising!

Depending on your requirements, this works for me for $7 (including shipping), back when I bought it in 2023.

  • Anyone know if this would work with a mesh system (specifically the Tenda Nova 3). Almost every similar device I've seen says i wont work with a mesh internet system but hoping this has gotten past that issue (whatever the issue may be!)
