Apparently, it's a pretty loud card, but may be able to fix it by mucking about with the bios on it.

In game sitting at 59 celsius at the moment, fan speed at 30% on the silent profile, and it's quieter than my CPU cooler or case fans.

If you really are concerned about sound, pull a Linus. Put the PC in a room on the other side of a wall, run a USB port and display cables through the wall and have a super clean setup (and a mess of cables on the other side)

      • what if you build a soundproof box somehow without losing airflow

        • If this were a thing people would have done it already. Theres no displacement for distance.

          • +1

@ATangk: People have done it. You can buy baffled and silenced ducts off the shelf.

      • -4

Linus is a moron. Kvm extenders have existed for decades.

        • Does one buy one of those kvm boxes and then just a really long usb c cable?

          • @AeymothSky: They usually use normal ethernet cable as the in-between extension lead. You can also get "KVM over IP" that will use a network. Or get ones that leverage fibre.

        • +2

He is actually using a specialised KVM connected via fibre obtics in the walls due to the run being so long, it's pretty sick (also not a moron)

        • He is literally using a fibre optic thunderbolt KVM

          • @ArgentLynx: I hear thunderbolt so is it like a type c thunderbolt cable with fibre optic inside the cable?

      • get a massive Pink server rack and constantly tempt fate playing with it for content, sign me up

    • No, it's not.

    • I have the actual card, IMO it's not loud at all, especially if you have a closed case (metal or glass side panel). I mean under load there's a slight hum but that's been the case for all the GPUs I've owned. If you play with a headset it's basically a non issue.

    • +1

It's a bearing issue or something, so the RPM noise is actually the least of the problem.

Got one for sub $1200, love the card a lot its very quiet and gets me 200+ fps on Doom using 4x MFG

    • +2

howd you get one for that cheap?

        • Fixed a down vote for you as that is what I am doing now. I got 4% off gift card through peak, just waiting for a copy of invoice to claim the GST

    • +3

      Second hand?

      • nah brand new

    • +3

$1200 is my price point. I'll keep using my 2080 until then

      • +3

us 2080 owners must hodl strong until then

Arguably a better buy than 9070 xt at this price.

AMD need to drop the price to MSRP fast. Plenty of 9070 xt in stock but the price is not coming down.

    • +4

Hard agree. The 9070xt is not a superior card to the 5070ti and the price should reflect that. It's nice to see the 50 series prices dropping, but man would I prefer it if retailers did people a solid and priced AMD at MSRP.

Once again, purchasing outside the first 3 months is ALWAYS the smart play. I'll be very interested to see how low this can get.

  • -1

They also have 5060, 16gb for $759. Cheapest on staticice is $785
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/galax-geforce-rtx-5060-ti-1-cli…

    • I think with the mwave code you can get it down to 740?

Also this was 1360 from Centrecom last week

  • -7

Should I get this to upgrade on my 4070 TiS? I mainly use it to play diablo immortal and vampire survivor.

    • +8

      Absolutely not

    • No. The performance increase is marginal, and you can drive those games pretty well with what you've got

      • -4

But I want to be the very best! And maxing Vampire Survivor can heat up my room during winter's day.

        • +1

5090 is the very best? 5070ti is about 10% higher FPS over the 4070ti super.

          • +1

@Eldeng20: Ok, I need to stop playing diablo immortal for 3 months to save up enough for 5090.

    • Absolutely. The economy needs you to fuel it…

  • +3

I got a 3070 Ti so this is very tempting but I think I’ll hold out longer.

  • Bought this card the other week and can confirm the fans (bearings) are a little noisy at the beginning.
A week later the sound has died down and it's not noticeable.

Friend purchased the same card the week before me and has had the same experience.

It's a few fps behind my old 4080 but it was fun to overclock.

    • +1

There is some variation between samples but yeah I believe the double ball bearing fans have a distinct sound of their own compared to sleeved and fdb fans.
There are a few YouTube videos of it.

      Curious why you upgraded?

    • Why would you go from a 4080 to this!

      • Look I wouldn't reccomended anyone make the change, but for me.. I Had an itch to work on the pc and overclock. Wasn't really necessary but only cost about $50.
Also Felt like the 5070ti would retain better value having current warranty and the extra frame Gen which people might value more in the future.
Probably hoping for too much but there's a chance Upcoming drivers might bump performance as well.

  • +1

Tempting price point to upgrade my 3070, issue is my 3070 plays all the games I play fine.

    • I'm a 3070ti owner and I get it. It's really hard to justify getting this when our cards would still beat the average steam hardware surveys and thus typical developer performance targets.

    • +1

What's amazing is how little improvement there has been in Nvidia Graphics since the 30xx series cards at anything lower than the 5090 series.

The 3070 and 3080 holds up surprisingly well against the 5060 and 5070.

No need to upgrade. Save your money.

AMD better get their shit together lol
