Awful, awful screen…..the Mini2 is supposedly coming out in March.

Awful screen? It's the same resolution as the original iPad in a smaller form factor.
Also, take new products & release date rumours with a grain of salt.

      Something new/updated/refreshed, is always coming.

      Buy when you need it.

Yeah…and that was released in March 2010

It's also a worse resolution than the Nexus 7 in a larger form factor…

I generally agree… except in this case. I want a mini but don't need it (does anyone really "need" an iPad?!?). As soon as they release the updated version with retina display I'll jump.

I compared side-by-side with iPad 4 and there is definitely a difference… if you use it for reading, web surfing etc, then you can see that the characters are slightly fuzzy. For the sake of 6 months, I can wait.

It's only been 83 days since it was released, so that is unlikely.

Will this have Apple AU warranty (worldwide) or Kogan/Apple HK warranty?

    • -1

Doesn't matter where in the world you buy it is will have the 1 year apple warranty.

    • +2

It will have Apple HK warranty, so it is better to be aware of that before ordering from Kogan.

      • -1

It would be if that were true.

That's the link you get when you get look at the warranty for the ipad mini.

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

They may but they don't have to.

      • I don't work for them but I bought an iPhone 4 while I was in the US a few years ago, came back to Aus, had it here for a year or so then I activated the 1 year warranty (warranty starts from the date you activate the support service online FYI - Not when you first buy it or activate the phone on iTunes). I told them the screen was cracked and the bumper edges had a lot of nicks and dents on it and they sent me a barcode that I could scan at Aus Post to cover the costs of shipping & packaging.

I sent my phone in to Apple at a Sydney address and within a week (5 days I think) they sent me a completely new device in retail packaging with plastic wrap just like if you bought one new from the Apple Store.

TL;DR - I bought an iPhone in the US and had it replaced here in Aus via Apples online repair/servicing support site within a week.

        • how did u activate the support online? cheers!

        • I'm confused why they would do it for any iPhone and any iPad (Cellular), I say that only because, it's not like Australia would be carrying US-based iPhone or iPad models? As far as I recall the US one differs since it supports a different set of bands, I can understand the Hong Kong ones, since I think Australia uses the same ones.

My thought is that if someone from the US comes to Australia for a 3 month holiday and replaces their iPhone for an Australian version, what happens when they head back home? I think it would have issues with the bands would it not?

          Just wondering.

        • No, the mobile bands are all compatible. Just pop a Aus sim in your US phone, or vice versa and it works fine. The only issue is the 4G in US is not the same as 4G here, still works just not the speed that's expected, hence the ACCC court case.

        • So you're saying 4G works but you don't get 4G speed? Isn't that basically saying it doesn't work?

        • I'm saying the mobile data works, it just may not be the 4G speeds we have here. Hence the penalties they had to pay for advertising 4G compatible in Aus. Some of the newer iGadgets are Aus 4G compatible however.

EDIT: here's an explanation for those interested.
