      • Do they have Afterpay? I like that one of their stipulations is no surcharges.

Should be sub $600… 7800X3D was like $500 ish on sale for the last 2ish years….

    • +7

Welcome to what happens when there's no competition.

When the 7800X3D was launched, the 13900K / 14900K were at least perceived to be competitive, a lot of the later issues had not yet been identified.

The 9800X3D has no competition (aside from the 7800X3D, funnily enough).

The other point worth mentioning as well is that 9800X3D price proportional to the 9950X price is significantly more than the 7800X3D price proportional to the 7950X.

      • -1

The 9800X3D is competitive with the i7-14700K at 4K for significantly lower cost (and lower platform cost), but no competition at all other than 7800X3D for 1080p. I don't know why you'd buy a 9800X3D instead of a 7800X3D though.

        • +2

9800X3D yields more FPS for those who don't play at 4K, so there are reasons.

          • -2

@combatant: But if you're playing on 1080p or 1440p due to budget, then no way are you spending $750 on a CPU.

Even the 7800X3D at $550 is a poor choice for a budget 1080p or 1440p build, would get the 7700 instead for less than half the price and upgrade GPU tier instead.

Completely understand getting the 7800X3D for mid-tier+ builds, especially for someone who plays CPU intensive games, or those playing competitive FPS etc at 1080p with a 360hz monitor

But the extra $200 for a 9800X3D over a 7800X3D doesn't make sense in any world, unless you're already rocking a 5080 and have no reasonable GPU tier upgrades

            • @Jolakot: Who said anything about budget? Competitive gamers want high FPS and there are gorgeous 1440P QD OLED monitors that run 240 or even 360Hz.

Currently, 9800X3D is the king of that domain.

              • -1

@combatant: I said if they're on 1080p or 1440p due to budget, not that everyone on those resolutions is on a budget.

The 9800X3D is a very marginal upgrade over the 7800X3D, the extra $230 would be better spent on a better GPU or even faster DDR5 RAM.

It's an upgrade sure, but the additional frames per $ is absolutely atrocious.

Only if you have literally nothing else to upgrade would it be worthwhile. And at that point, get the 9950X3D for best FPS.

but i thought AMD are the 'good guys' and they love consumers?

Now you people downvote anyone for suggesting that the price shouldnt be gouged?

        • -2

Yeah I'm so confused why this is downvoted. Why are the downvoters even on ozb, seems like they are happy to unnecessarily pay more for stuff

          • -2

@happyangus: people have this weird attachment to AMD and they somehow got it in their heads that 'AMD is for the consumers' just because AMD was forced to be aggressive with their pricing and such just to sell their units and now they have resorted to price gouging for literal months and you wont hear a thing about it

Maybe people lack a basic understanding of business and how a company works who knows.

Can they keep the items and just make the cpu cheaper

  • +4

This is gonna sell out before I get paid 😭

      Get the $200 Ryzen 7700
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909505
and you wont notice anything playing at 1440P max settings unless you have a RTX4090 or RTX5090 :)

By the time games need a faster CPU then a Ryzen 7700. Zen6 will be out (end of 2026) and the cheap entry level Zen6 $399 will be as fast as a 9800X3D

But it will be WAY faster at everything else.

TCMC 2nm 12 core CCX (Chiplet) with 2 or 4 cores disabled. 8 or 10 core cheap entry level power house making all older AM5 CPU's worthless. Apart from 7800X3D and 9800X3D that will be able to keep up with it. But their value will be $399. I'm looking forward to it.. wonder if Intel will have something better out around that time to help lower prices on Zen6 X3D.. otherwise that thing will be crazy expensive.

Has been dropping to $815/816 on amazon every few days: https://www.pgrid.com.au/cpus/ryzen-7-9800x3d

There will possibly be better deals in the later weeks of the month though.

Deepcool AG400 LED $35, I’d pay that price anyway for my of builds good combo.

    • Great idea. CPU cooler !

  • I wonder if you could put through multiple orders to get the discount each time
    Building a new PC

    • Ordered things last night, fairly certain it said one time per account.

      • +1

        Thanks

      • can you create multiple accounts and make separate purchases with each one?

        • Dont see why not.. they are not going to bother canceling orders for the one or two people who go to the trouble of doing that.. worst case they refund you the moeny.. No risk

  • I love this cpu but i paid $860 oh well

    • Same, last week! :'( oh well, the chip seems to be half decent at overclocking so not going to complain.

      • its ok bro, its still a fkn mad cpu

  • -2

Unless its for something other than gaming, nobody needs this.
Ryzen 7600 and a 7900 xt and can pretty much max everything at 4K

    • Why would you get a 7900 XT when a 5070 Ti is cheaper? Unless you really needed that extra 4GB of memory, but may as well look at 5080 for that price.

Also nowhere except amazon has stock of 7900 XT's.

Not dismissing the card, but it needs to drop $300-$500 to make any sense at all.

Edit: Unless you meant the XTX, then I could see that being an option if you really wanted the extra memory over the 5070 Ti, but price still needs to come down a bit, and I'm not sure if the extra memory is worth it considering AI/ML is what it would be most useful for, and the AMD support for that is still catching up.

      • +2

I paid $1,100 for the 7900 XT two years ago - at the time it was the best value for money imo.

Edit: I think you misconstrued my comment which focused on saying "you don't need the latest and greatest to play most titles"

    • I am using 13600k + ddr4 + 4090 for 4K. Should I upgrade ?

  • $49 cooler you might want to add to get DeepCool AK400 Zero Dark 120mm PWM CPU Air Cooler
So total will be enough to get the discount code to be used :)

  • The King is Dead! Code's gone :(
