  • If i got the video card from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/90941 and one of the pc packages above.

Would the PSU be able to handle the power requirements?

    • 500W (or greater) power supply with one 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connector and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended.

      • +1

These are apparently 620W PSUs - so in theory should be OK, but personally, I'd be running a decent PSU with a high end graphics card (ie Seasonic, Antec…)

        • Apparently it's a fake 620w PSU, in practically it's true power will be under 300w.
Some dodge PSU still can run this video card but will melt down, that mean FIRE!

    • Hi PlayerOne,

Sorry the power supply we have with these packages can only support up do a 2GB ATI HD-7870 or a 2GB Nvidia GTX660. You will need to upgrade the power supply for the ATI HD-7970.

We have a 700W Thermaltake Lite-Power upgrade for an additional $79. Link below:

      http://mrpcgeek.com.au/p/5921653/mr-pc-geek-upgrade-option-7…

      • +3

Out of curiosity - what's the +12v rail on the 620W PSU rated at that it can't run the HD7970?

    • +3

Definitely get a good brand name PSU for a card like that. The Rep's 700W ThermalTake looks good.

  • Do you accept Paypal ?

    • Yes we accept PayPal.

  • +2

Dear Rep, Just wondering will you be able put this configuration in a compact / slim form factor case?

    • +6

Yes you can. We have a 620W Ultra-Slim case. Below is a link of what the case looks like:

      http://mrpcgeek.com.au/p/8507301/intel-dual-core-g540-ultra-…

Please note: Case is designed for low profile video cards and PCI/PCI-E cards.

To upgrade to this case is an additional $10.

      • +2

Not bad at all. +1 from me for great flexibility.

        • +1

Great alternative to the N40L HP Microserver!

  • How many USB 3.0 ports do they have?

    • 2x USB3.0 ports in the rear of the PC.

  • +23

Hey Mum, I need a new PC for homework.

Teacher says it has to be an i7, with a discrete GPU…

  • How can i pay by paypal?

When i try checkout, the only option i have is by bank deposit and credit card.

    • -1

You will need to select credit card. We will then email you a PayPal invoice.

Please note: PayPal has a service fee.

    i5-3470 - $185
    8GB @ 1600 - $42
    B75 Mobo - $61
    DVD burn - $19
    Thermaltake V4 (500W inc.) - $75

    OR

    Thermaltake Commander MS-III - $58
    Thermaltake TR2 500 - $67

    Total - $382 or $432

If you want an i7, just add $100 to the total…
But, get a branded case/PSU, not these crap 620W cases…

    • +7

You are right in that it could be cheaper, but not everyone is comfortable putting their own pc together. Also, you forgot to include your list:

Solving miscellaneous freak problems due to impossible-to-foresee incompatibility between budget components: 10hrs

    • +3

There is no HDD is your list.

    • Pretty similar price to what they mention above (bar shipping + the case) and it's already put together :)

      • -1

this is just a rough estimated breakdown, I did forget the 1TB HDD @ $73…, but my focus was the case and PSU to get a proper PSU for an i5 or i7 system, alter the price such that you make sure a proper case with PSU or just a proper PSU is used, seen too many PSUs burn, pop and crackle…

        @sloppyjoe34, I neg'd him now, have a look… ;)

  • Any deals on laptops OP?

    • Im afraid we don't sorry.

  • +3

"ATX Case: 620W Black/Silver Tower Case"

Has no place in the spec sheet for a genuine PC

    • Agree ! Revoke'd +ve…

    • Got any alternatives to the 1990's era mini-tower ATX case? At least it is not beige.

  • +2

I think a PC GEEK will recommend a i5 + 120GB SSD instead of i7 for the same cost.
You just waits $ on that i7 for a very "slow" PC. Generally i7 should part with mid-range video card or above.

  • does anyone know if this gaming computer with these spec is a good deal
    http://www.mrpcgeek.com.au/p/8212137/intel-quad-core-i7-3770…

I don't have a computer and have little knowledge as to how to build them, so if i was to buy a gaming computer, will this be best value for money? I know the graphics card in it is a little weak but I can upgrade that later.

    • GPU= Poor
      PSU = Poor
      CPU isn't overclockable
      Ram's pretty slow
Don't know the brand of the monitor…

      • well theres a bundle which includes the i7 3770k, and all these systems have an OS preinstalled as well, do u think thats a good deal?

  • Make it a 3770k and i'll be happy to buy it!

  • Hate these pre-builds, the CASE and PSU are always a joke. You want a Corsair CX at the very minimum and a case with front panel USB 3 for obvious reasons. Intel HD graphics are fine though. I only use a dedicated card for gaming systems. You don't need one for youporn … er Office. Same with the "K" SKU's. You don't need to overclock. That i3 3220 craps all over AMD's APU's for CPU grunt and will have more than enough grunt for office/internet work for a few long years.

Nice Deal Rep! +1 for MrPCGeek - Great service, informative info

  • Guys, sure you can get a better computer, but for one that suits school kids who play a few games maybe and browse the internet, then $400 or so is pretty good. Just because its not a high end gaming / 3D modelling computer doesnt make it a bad deal. You want a Corolla or a Porsche?

  • +1

These PCs are more than enough for school and real work, they were never meant to outclass or replace gaming desktops. Many people aren't that computer savvy so they need the installation done for them. Most don't have the free time to troubleshoot if issues occur, unlike the casuals or the unemployed.

Some of the comments made here are simply idiotic, or they think that you'd need an i7-3960K + GTX680 to surf the net and use Microsoft Word ?
