Bought one from previous deal, overall happy with it with steel reservoir instead of plastic. Feels a bit less stable than the last one we had though, quite tall and narrow at the base.

bought one free uber delivery inc

nice added that to the post

Free uber delivery?? That is insane. Delivery surcharges on uber eats alone are like $10+ at this point.

      • +2

They're still subsidising because they're trying to eat Amazon's lunch

How do you make it uber delivery ? I went to TGG website and didn't see this option

@life is suffering: to lungs from kettles? What is the connection?
Thankyou for being the one person with the courage to respond.

A plastic kettle would put nano-particles in the water. But there are many different plastics, and we are talking food-grade PP here. Any reason to think that is an issue?

            • +17

@bargaino: I think complete avoidance is impossible for most people. But any toxicologists would say that reducing exposure is a good strategy.
Many pathways are very difficult or impossible to avoid. This (boiling water) is an easy way to avoid plastics, so its a good idea to do so.
souce: my sister is phd in nano-toxicology

@bargaino: I’m saying micro plastics are a THING

            • +11

@bargaino: I don't like boiling water in contact with plastic, pretty simple. Is it a huge risk? Probably not. But it does make me feel a bit icky. Having an all or nothing attitude about making healthy choices is meaningless, because it's impossible.

          • +2

@life is suffering: Kettle water putting plastic in people's lungs? They'll die of drowning before plastic cancer kills them.

          • @life is suffering: Different plastic, but it's been shown that polystyrene is able to pass the blood brain barrier too.

ROFL, there is plenty of research on it: https://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=m…

Polycarbonate was a risk for BPA. )

ROFL, and what about BPB, BPC, etc - they are all toxic, but it's OK, it's got no BPA - just 100% BPB - physc!

@7ekn00: Yes, but all of those very slightly modified and equally dangerous bisphenols aren't the extremely scary one the media is warning us about.

I took two years of organic chem as a minor alongside my physics degree and I've learned that most structures that are even remotely resembling carbolic acid have a very long MSDS and should not be pumped into baby toys.

Probably not the best take, why care about anything if your just going to disappear one day?

But, we want to be feel good and live healthy life.

        • +6

As long as it does not involve any effort. Its amazing how many people are afraid of the latest fad-fear, but eat too much junk, exercise too little, vape and drink …

          • +2

@bargaino: I exercise regularly, and eat mostly clean food. Drinking in special occasions only maybe 2-3 times a year. No smoking as well.

Get your opinion, like this old joke! 🤓

They had been in good health for the last ten years, mainly as a result of the wife's interest in healthy diets and exercise.

St. Peter welcomed them into Heaven and took them to their small palace in heaven- complete with a large bedroom, Jacuzzi, full kitchen, and billiards table. "How much will this cost us?" asked the husband. "Nothing," St. Peter responded. "This is Heaven- everything is free!"

Next, he took them to the Championship golf course just minutes away from their mansion. They would have golfing privileges whenever they wanted, an angel as a caddy on command, and the course even changed daily to represent the most elite courses on Earth. "This is… stupendous," the wife asked. "What are the green fees?" Again, St. Peter said "Nothing. This is Heaven- everything is taken care of."

Next, he took them to the equivalence of a five-star restaurant next to the course. Wagyu beef, prime rib, lobster, veal, salmon, rare vegetables and spices- all one could eat.

        "How much-"

"Again, free," St. Peter responded to the wife. "This is Heaven."

The husband paused. "Well… this is all nice, but… do you have any low cholesterol, low-fat options…?"

St. Peter chuckled. "In Heaven, you don't have to worry about Earthly problems. You will never get fat and you will never get sick."

Suddenly, the husband grew angry, and screamed toward the sky. St. Peter and the man's wife tried calming him down, but he kept getting angrier.

"What's the matter???" the wife asked. "Why aren't you happy here???"

The man responded, "This is all YOUR fault!!! If it weren't for your (profanity) 'bran muffins' and 'paleo chicken' recipes, we could have been here 10 years ago!!!🤣

Man, you might decompose but that plastic is going to stay in your grave forever.

    • +4

Idk about you, but the fact they found ( Feb 2025 ) in kidney, liver and brains is very wild https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-03453-1. Combine with 'forever chemical' in nearly every living being on this planet …

      • -3

That's only a problem if you plan on living forever.

  • leaking lid… accoridng to review. buyer aware

    • +1

Leaking lid according to OzB too. Bought using 2 x $20 Gold services extra vouchers.

      It will:

      • Have some steam escaping from the lid not just at the spout, but around the sides as well

      • If you pour too quick, water will escape from not just at the spout, leading to spillage.

First one isnt too big of an issue, steam will go where steam wants to go. The second one means you cannot force pour the kettle, although this is probably for the better anyways.

    Russell Hobbs RHK510 Addison Kettle 1.7L (5 Temperature Settings) $51 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $59 Spend) @ Amazon AU

    ?

    • I went this.. :) its great

    • Is the filter made of plastic on the Russell Hobbs one? I think it might be, but not sure. That may or may not be important to you.

      • Everything is stainless steel, filter, lid *(inside part) spout and water bowl. …Zero plastic touches the water

        • There seems to be a see through window for water level though, inner bowl seems to be plastic?

          • @High: sorry i was talking about the Philips 5000 Series Kettle

            • @vid_ghost: Is the 5000 completely stainless inside? I ask specifically, because I bought a Xioami and while not plastic, the bottom of the stainless steel is coated in a non-stick material. Who knows what that leeches! There was no mention of this and the photos didn't show it either.

        • Is the spout filter as dense as a mesh filter? It doesn’t seem to be.

      • There is a plastic interior water gauge/indicator. It's also a trash product.

    • +1

Go with Russell RHK510. Mine got delivered yesterday

    • Sorry to differ. I've had this kettle (Russel Hobbs) and it is landfill. Read the negative online reviews, they are 100% true. Major faults.

    • I've had two of these - not great
First one replaced under warranty at 8 months where the lid failed to open
Second one failed at 3 years due to water leaking from the level window

  • I don’t have the Uber delivery option even though I checked my postcode and it says I can get uber delivery. Anyone else?

    • +2

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/uber-delivery

My postcode is not eligible for free uber delivery.

      • My postcode is eligible but somehow it does not come up as an option on checkout. Is there some trick to enable it? Or does it only work during their operational hours. Thanks

        • +1

comes up at checkout for me.. Monday between 12:00-14:00 just checked NSW 2558 post code. :) have you got an address in your good guys account?

          • @vid_ghost: Thanks, Did check now am logged in and address is in, just shows the option of Australia post or toll for me. Will try it again tomorrow.

      • +1

Looks like for me it only works despite being eligible for uber delivery if the cart value is$50 or more. Ie delivery does not work for the 5000 series kettle, but if I choose the 7000 series @$69 then uber delivery option comes up.

  • +1

I love this kettle. Just becareful when you pour the hot water.

  • I'm using the opportunity to ask about this Baccarat kettle:
    https://www.mydeal.com.au/baccarat-the-boiling-point-tempcon…

Seemingly it's also stainless steel. Has anyone tried it? I ordered one anyway, so I'll see soon.

    • How is it? All Stainless? I ask specifically, because I bought a Xioami and while not plastic, the bottom of the stainless steel is coated in a non-stick material

      • +1

It is indeed fully stainless steel, doesn't seem to be coated in anything. So far so good, we are enjoying it. The outside is plastic and it isn't the most solid thing in the world, but it works well.

  • Any thoughts on a hot water dispenser vs electric kettle?

    • +1

Get this Philips 5000 Series Kettle..

The dispenser has plastic touching boiling water

  • +1

Thanks op, perfect timing, my current kettle just shat itself after a vinegar water cleanse.

  • +1

    wow, a kettle!

  • +4

I was trying to justify buying this then I hear my wife say "the kettle is broken".

    Cha-ching!

  • I bought one last week for $44, happy with it. It does just boil water but it does a damn good job of it.

  • Is plastic that bad. Every almost every single everyday meal in Japan has some kind of plastic in it and theyre like the oldest population on earth or something.

    • +1

Japan has the oldest population due to various factors, e.g., emergency responsiveness, lifestyle, etc.

    • +1

That 'green zone' hype is mostly bullshit, those countries with the supposedly longest living people have terrible records for things like birth certificates, also there are incentives to say your older to get things like government benefits.

  • If you want to avoid microplastics boil the water

    • Of use this kettle. Its awesome.

  • I don't know how but I just got it for $39 because it gave me a pop up $20 price beat discount.

Oh it's just me not reading the post.

  • +1

The 7000 model is $30 off ($69), if anyone thinks the extra $30 is worth it. Seems to have the ability to select the target temperature and keep warm, as opposed to simply reach boiling and stop.

    • Reviews for the 7000 series model does not seem to be too flash as on myers website

      https://www.myer.com.au/p/philips-7000-series-double-walled-…

      • +1

Mostly good esp for a few. Not appropriate for left handed and be careful when pouring. It's worth from what I can read. Edit:actually no. Leave it. There are issues

    • simple = less can go wrong

  • I couldn't find price check/beat button to get $39. Could anyone help? Thanks..

    • I think they have got a bit smarter, now you have to call on a 1300 number for a price check and discount at least for this one.
