  • Long timer lurker here.
Created account just to post here.

Bought this Dell micro PC here from this seller; the 9500T version (lower powered) one.
The micro PC died after exactly 2-years of use. Warranty only cover 1 year.
Now cannot start the PC at all and keeps blinking orange light.

Checked many youtube videos for troubleshooting. Known issues could be dead coin battery, faulty RAM/ PSU/ motherboard.
Did battery change, clear CMOS and re-seat RAM; issue persists.
Haven't proceeded to replace RAM or PSU yet, not sure if well worth the effort and cost.

Now, not sure if worth it to send back to this seller to get it fixed or just buy another one again.
Anyway, this item is now out-of-stock. Seems to be dead end for me now.

    • Have you contacted them ?

      • Just drop them an email and let's see if it can be fixed.
        Thanks for the recommendation.

        • Yeah!

          Hopefully something works out!

Even if it's outta warranty period ya know, it's worth contacting still.

    • Had the same experience with 3x Dell 7050s, not from this seller though. Common fault with Dells

    • Have you tried a single stick of the ram? One of the modules may have died

    • Try to unplug the power cord for at least 10 minutes and try again. It could be the power supplier problem. It happened to me.

  • Found my purchase of refurbished tech from stores/company over the years the one i don't regret is buying one of these with a i5-8500T.

The laptops i regret as their condition was always mid and significant drop off in battery life./health.

Since these have no batteries, 90% of the time ideally no issues !

  • Oh FFS… I'd been looking at this all week and was waiting for a deal to come along and of course I miss it.

    • Read above 300 more will be available during the wk

      • +1

Just saw… Also the T version which I wanted was still in stock, so all good!

        • is T version better?

          • @pinkybrain: Depends on your use case

T has low power consumption which is ideal for 24/7 build, where as the regular has higher Base and boost clock for higher performance.

Feature Intel Core i5-9500 Intel Core i5-9500T
            Cores / Threads 6 / 6 6 / 6
Base Clock 3.0 GHz 2.2 GHz
Turbo Boost Up to 4.4 GHz Up to 3.7 GHz
            TDP (Power Draw) 65W 35W
            • @impoze: what sort of performance difference in games and apps could see (e.g. 10 to 20 %?)

              from what I read,
the T model also has smaller heat sink so can throttle earlier,
              is that correct?

              • @pinkybrain: If you are going for games then definitely get the 9500

                They will restock

    • +1

      Don't panic! Stock incoming…

  • The spec says the following, so does it have a HMDI port?

    1 Optional 3rd Video Port (VGA/DP/HDMI 2.0b/USB Type-C Alt Mode)

  • Would love to get one when more stock is issued

    • back in stock

  • Available now. Just bought two. Thanks.

  • Couldn't help myself, bought one just now on the re-stock

  • Ugh.. do I need another

    • +1

      Yes, fill up your rack!

      • Cluster of three? 😅

  • Any suggestions for RAM? 32Gb/64Gb? Intended use is Proxmox running a few VMs and LXCs. Also what is the best way to add more storage. Any easy way to (externally) add 3.5 HDDs?

If you want a custom faceplate badge, you can 3d print these - https://makerworld.com/en/models/1385316-dell-optiplex-facep…

Badges for Home Assistant, Proxmox, TrueNAS, and more.

      I suppose you meant 9500T?

Also, this one is 8GB vs 16GB Ram.

      • +1

Ah yes my bad, thank you

  • Does anyone know if this would handle OrcaSlicer or other 3D print slicing software?

    • +1

easily, and can handle other things at the same time like:

What printer are you planning to use it with?

      • It's for a friend with an Ender 3 but what printer it's being used with is irrelevant.

  • damn it.. accidently bought a 9500T instead of a 9500 yesterday :(

still more stock coming @Calmago? Have sent an ebay message to try and intercept the package, but no response yet.

  • bought one. cheers OP

    • How?!? OOS no?

      • I just checked the ebay listing. It is in fact, in-stock! The store had commented last night on this post saying they have plenty more coming.

  • I have purchased and it is already on it's way to me.

What do I have to do to be able to upgrade the hard drive in this one. Want to be able to make it 512gb. Can I leave the original SSD in there and just add another one or do I have to copy the OS from the original drive to a new drive then install that drive.

    Would this ssd be suitable?

    https://amzn.asia/d/1LxwVar

    Thank you

    • +1

You can leave the 256gb nvme as boot and install that 2.5" drive on top.

It has the blue caddy insidd to mount it.

That one is compatible. You will need to get a sata and power cable for it.

  • Already delivered this morning. Pity I don't have any DP monitors or DP adapters (in transit) to actually set it up…

  • how does the i5-9500 compare to the i5-9500T if you powerlimit it to 35W?

is that a thing? a bios setting like one of those eco modes?

    • if you want to limit it to 35W, why not just get the 9500T to start with.

  • Anyone know how the 9500/9500T compares to a 13th gen Intel N-150?

Can get them for $50 more with the same RAM and a 500GB SSD so might be worth the extra $50?

    • +1

Have a look at this forum thread discussing just that.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/909016

Depends on your use case really

      • Thanks, perfect!

      Release Date Q2 2019 Q2 2019 Q4 2024
      Performance
      • Intel Core i5-9500:This is a standard desktop CPU with strong multi-core performance, suitable for office tasks, light content creation, and general computing. It significantly outperforms the N150 in both single- and multi-threaded workloads, with about a 78% higher aggregate performance score

      • Intel Core i5-9500T: This is a low-power ("T" series) variant of the i5-9500, with lower base and boost clocks and a much lower TDP (35W vs. 65W). It is about 22% slower than the i5-9500 in aggregate performance but is designed for energy efficiency and quiet operation

      • Intel Processor N150: This is a modern, ultra-low-power chip designed for budget laptops and mini PCs. It has only 4 cores and 4 threads, a lower TDP (10W), and much lower overall performance than the i5-9500 or even the i5-9500T. However, it is much more energy-efficient and is built on a newer process node

      Use Cases
      • i5-9500: Best for desktops where performance is the priority.
      • i5-9500T: Ideal for compact, quiet, or energy-efficient desktops.
      • N150: Best for ultra-low-power devices like mini PCs, thin clients, or entry-level laptops where battery life and efficiency are more important than raw performance.

      Summary Table

CPU Best For Performance Power Efficiency
i5-9500 General desktop, multitasking High Moderate
      i5-9500T Quiet/energy-efficient desktop Medium High
N150 Budget/mini PCs, thin clients Low Very High

      Conclusion

      • Choose i5-9500 for the best performance in a desktop.
      • Choose i5-9500T for a quieter, more energy-efficient desktop.
      • Choose N150 for ultra-low-power, compact, or portable devices.
      • what about GPU performance comparison for gaming or tasks that use the GPU?

        • You can ask ChatGPT just like the other user did.

  • More stock pretty please 🤞

  • Can I use this to plug multiple HDDs in and run Plex to view from home network?

    • it has space for one internal 2.5"

Any 3.5" would need to be an external enclosure or DAS or similar.

      • Yeah that's why I held off from getting this. I want something similar but with space for a couple of 3.5 inch drives.

      • I actually meant to plug in via USB - USB-C.

    • +1

Not a 3.5 HDD but you might find something you can use a M.2 to Mini SAS
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/365631924511?srsltid=AfmBOorgG8a…

For me I used my old N54 drive bays to connect to this adapter

      Or something like this
      https://external-preview.redd.it/4P8rqgLiw5TEJxH5x3GsUnin0BQ…

      • I purchased this adapter, then cracked the case but the SSD is plugged into the NVMe port so how can I remove it yet still run windows? Is there an ability to mirror the install onto a 3.5 HDD and then plug it into the adapter before rebooting?

  • Can turn this into a 4 bay NAS for people who have access to 3D printers and are into jank builds.

  • Damn, missed out on the 9500! Any more stock expected?

    • Now back in stock

  • +1

Back in stock. Sold out 6:40PM 14 Jun Sat.

  • ….and gone again

  • I have an Intel NUC that I was using before and I never noticed that the thing was even running. But this has a weird fan noise - has anyone else picked up on this or it could be my unit.

    • Have you tried re-applying thermal paste and cleaning out the cooler?

You could get a cheap replacement cooler from Aliexpress, they look like they are only $22 AUD at most. This computer is old and the bearings in the cooler might be shot.

ACT computers might also have a spare that they could send you although that will also be a used unit.

    • Contact them for support first

    Back in stock

  • Can't decide on the t version or not. 24/7 plex box with frigate etc?

    • either will be ok, but if you plan to run more services, go for 9500 for more headroom

  • Anyone received their order?

    • Mine was supposedly sent on the 9th without tracking but the AusPost daily run came past this morning and still nothing for me.

I’ve messaged ACT to find out what the story is and whether there is tracking but they just couldn’t be bothered entering it.

I find it weird that there’s no tracking because all my previous orders from them had tracking.

    • mine arrived in a few days and had AusPost tracking code

    • Between my mates and i, we ordered 3.
      2 no tracking id
1 had tracking id and delivered

The 2 no tracking id they advise it is still at a distribution centre… and will get tracking id later…
But on ebay its marked as shipped.

    • Mine came in 2 days with express shipping, although I have ebay plus. Came nicely wrapped in bubble wrap in a box.
      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/431918/122322/screensh…

    • Yes mine came very quickly express post with Ebay Plus

    • Also have not received. I've messaged them via eBay to sort it out.

Looks like current stock if you buy, it comes within 4 - 6 calendar days. It's been 10 days since they marked it as shipped.

      No tracking number.

      • From my 3 orders with mates.
No tracking ID - not sent yet still at distribution centre.
2 of my mates orders have tracking ID and it sent/delivered already.

I am the only one without a tracking ID

    • Finnally received my tracking ID

      • same. It’s still not even on its way to me though as auspost states the label has just been created.

        What a frustrating experience.

        • Yeah mine say currently in Brisbane, im in Melb

          • @vince088: ACT said there was “a mix up” at the warehouse and it would be shipped ASAP by express post.

The label finally got created 2 days later, showing up in my auspost app.

Now it’s still stuck there, with a label created. I dropped them another message yesterday morning and they’re not responding…

            • @danct9a: sorry to hear, mine is at the local post office as I was taking my kids to school during delivery

              • @vince088: oh wow, I must just be unlucky. Hope you receive yours soon!

  • Bought 2 of them.. one came with an extra DP port in the optional slot (total 3x DP) and the other came with a VGA 🤔… HDMI would’ve been nice

    • Yep mine had the extra DP

  • Can anyone suggest any PCIe to SATA 3.5" drive card to go with this micro PC?

  • +1

I opened mine up to replace the thermal paste, temps went from 80-90 degrees to 35-40 degrees.

Updated all drivers with dell command and works like a charm.

Keeping this as a back up if my kid's computer goes kaput - Even plays Roblox at 60-120fps (depends on graphics setting)
