Switch to Origin for Bonus Everyday Rewards Points: Electricity 20,000 Pts, Gas 15,000 Pts, Internet 25,000 Pts @ Origin

410

Just browsing for some current offers for gas to jump ship to, and came across this in the EDR app.

Currently with AGL, been with them since when they had the 56% discount a while back and time to definitely shake things up. Currently my AGL is at 35%, and Origin via EDR is 50% usage charges.

Used this comparison table which have been updated only the AGL vs Origin portion of it, if it helps anyone.

Origin has NO Admin/Account Fees, Lower usage and Supply rate, AND 15K EDR pts (worth $75).

Originated from this post, but I don't think this EDR offer is limited to WA only.

Have a blessed day!

NOTE you have to transfer power, gas & internet for 60k points total

*Electricity 20k ($100)

*Gas 15k ($75)

*Internet 25k ($125)

    • +5

This is the crux of the entire deal and should be in the OP

  • +2

I'm a low-usage consumer of gas, also in WA, so the fixed charges (supply charge, account fees etc) are what matters to me. Origin Energy has been a good deal for me too.

By the way, AGL’s Account Service Fee for residential customers will increase from 9.71c/day to 15.08c/day from July 1.

  • You can't event do the electricity in WA

    • +3

This is a good thing. Trust.

  • +3

"Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards."

Make sure you have that offer showing up in your Rewards app or page before going through with it.

    • +1

Over my several EDR apps, they all had it. I did not assume it was targeted based on that fact..

      • I think so too, just checked and I also have it. But you never know and I remember from 1-2 years ago, there was a bit of a discussion.

  • +1

I took their last offer which is 15000 EDR for electricity and gas combined. Recently moved house and disconnected from Origin and signup with Red Energy for QFF.
I don't see this offer in my EDR apps, probably for 'new' customer who never claim this type of bonus EDR offer before.

    • +5

how dare you only have 1 EDR acc?!

      • Curious, what's the advantage of multiple accounts?

        • +1

Multiple offers to take advantage of if all received it.
If one or 2 doesn’t some others will still receive it to compensate. Some better than other, filter and focus on the ones that gives worthy returns.

    Switch to Origin

    Tariffs are too high.

  • +3

Internet also gets you 12 months of Paramount +

  • Currently with Origin and got an email yesterday about their pricing changing on 1st July. Though I guess that will be most if not all providers doing it.
Something to keep in mind if comparing and they don't indicate if website pricing is new or old.

    • Are you in WA? Whats the gas rates going to be July onwards?

      • Sorry, should have mentioned am in Qld and with electricity only.

    • Yeah it’s super tricky to switch around this period. Some retailers hold back their price changes for a few weeks or a month. Pull in new customers through comparison websites then jack their prices up.

Could end up with a net zero effect, but $300 credit with Woolies isn’t too bad

  • Good timing. Also looking to move away from AGL after they increased account fee from 9.71 cents per day to 15.08 cents per day (from July 1st).
Alinta is worse at 22 cents per day…
Does anyone have new Origin gas rates for July onwards? Would like to know before jumping from AGL. TIA.

    • Alinta just announced a 300% increase in daily account fee too.

  • Switched just over a month ago. All went smoothly, scheduled my internet to connect the day before my current ISP period ended. AFAIK they use Superloop infrastructure for internet, comes with Paramount+ Standard for free for 12 months

Rewards points landed about a month later.

The deal from them is one of the cheapest available from all providers in SA at the moment. But price increases coming July 1 might change that.

  • +1

Not sure if it has changed but for the internet they usually credit the points around 32 days after sign up so the last time I took advantage of one of these offers I set my connection date to be 28 days in the future, meaning the points arrived within a week of my service actually beginning.

    • +4

Same same - connected Sunday (day 28), points landed Tuesday :) (Cancelled today). All up $11.34 for 25k points

      • Does day 1 start on actual start date say I signed up today is my Day 1 (13th of Jun) or will it be 14th of Jun as if 1 day is considered as 24hrs from start if that makes sense?

I signed up for this offer on 14th May and trying to check if today is my Day 30 or Day 31 as I need to just meet the minimum 30 days for the energy offer

      • Where is $11.34 coming from? is it the prorate usage for between Sunday-Friday?

        • +1

Exactly that - I should have canceled Tuesday but hadn't noticed points had dropped - cost me about $4 more than it should have!

    • I should have done this too! Just checking is Day 1 by your count the actual day you signed up say if I signed up today Day 1 is 13th June and Day 32 will be 14th July?

  • +2

if you prefer getting a cashback instead of points, Cashrewards has $70 cashback offer for gas signup
    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/origin-energy

    • Trying to see if it stacks, as the exclusions don’t mention the EDR points

      • If you can get the clickthrough link via CR to point to https://www.originenergy.com.au/campaign/up-to-60000-everyda… then it’s very possible you can stack it. I personally didn’t try, should have 😅

EDIT: upon trying, the landing page says this:

Cashrewards member? Sign up to our Origin Go Variable plan for electricity or gas and receive cashback, added to your Cashrewards balance

U can only apply to either Go Variable or Everyday Reward Variable, so i assume it won’t stack..?

  • +1

I notice AGL discount the daily supply charge by 35%, but then add back a daily service fee.
Origin supply charge was similar to the AGL supply + account fees - until the increase.
Still, all small differences compares tot he 15K points.

    Thanks Noel!

  • Seems targeted, my rewards app says
    More offers coming soon

  • For internet, I am with Aussie Broadband now, does anyone know if I can use the same nbn modem or I have to buy a new modem for Origin internet? Cheers

    • +1

I've changed about 10 providers over last few years so I'd be shockedif it didn't work. At most needed to change the adapter for the NBN box. I'm on FFTP though so might be different for other NBN set-up.

    • +1

Reuse it. Do you have the NetComm NF18ACV, NetComm NF20MESH, eero 6+ or Google Nest Wi-Fi?

      • I have NetComm NF18ACV

        • Your nbn automatically switches over and the NetComm settings stay the same.

What speed are you signing up for?

    • +1

Unless you are 'renting' their modem which I doubt you can keep it and Origin will send you details for their internet

For FTTP connections its seamless, for others you might need to enter credentials

      • I own the modem and its FTTP connection. Thks

        • +1

yeah FTTP is just connecting to the right port, they should just use the same one, they'll tell you which port to connect to

You can churn every 6 months to get those promotional offers pretty easily this way, I've been jumping from Exetel to Superloop and then back for the past year and a half.

  • Interested in people's thoughts: is it a bad timing to be changing energy provider? I understand there's an increase in energy prices across the board due to an increase from the Australian Energy Regulator.
I'm with Red Energy and they're increasing my electricity and gas rates by 14% and 8% respectively + services fees by ~30%. So naturally I started looking for alternatives using the government's comparison tool (Energy Made Easy), but you're comparing current rates, and not the new ones from July 1.
So my thoughts was waiting until a few days into July to run the comparison again and make sure I'll be comparing new rates to find the best deal. I'm also thinking energy providers will try to capture as many new customers as possible with EOFY deals in June, only to increase prices from July 1. Is that a fair assumption? And am I doing this the wrong / right way?

    • +1

Yep 110% - this is the normally the way it works, I would just wait to be sure.

They would still run some aggressive offers afterwards for new customers as a lot of the existing ones would leave based on the new increases….many people shopping around (& they also need to make it up to replace them anyway).

      • +1

Ok, I'll wait July to switch then!

    • +1

If you change often enough, rates become meaningless - I move every 30-45 days for whatever the best deal I can find :)

      • 😅🤯 nekk level ❗️

  • Just changed from Ovo and they gave me a $200 credit

  • Are there surcharges for Amex payments with origin?

  • Electricity prices, natural gas prices and Origin Go Zero carbon offset prices in NSW are increasing on 1 July 2025. Solar feed-in tariffs will decrease on 1 July 2025. Our fees are then increasing on 1 August. We'll send you the new prices before they change. Our monthly Internet plan prices are increasing from 1 July 2025, we’ll let you know in writing if the changes apply to you.

    The only way is up

  • +2

    aight good news and bad:
I used the cashrewards link for the $70. When using cashrewards referral, there is no option to choose any other plan except for the 50% off gas usage one. I can't choose the one with 35% off and provides Rewards points. All the way up to checkout, and after an account is opened and I logged in, I can't find anywhere to add any Reward number :(

Just now I tried again with Incognito window, and it seems only the 35% plan will have a page that asks for the Rewards number….

So it seems we can't stack :'(

    • Which is the better deal in the end - cashrewards way or the EDR way?

      • Think I'd prefer $70 cashback and 50% discount on usage, rather than $75 in EDR and a lower discount, all other things being equal.

      • yea, it's $70 with CR which tracks instantly (I got confirmation email from CR within 10 minutes of signing up) and 50% off gas usage, vs $75 worth of EDR and 35% off, I'd choose the former :)

    • I’ve mention it up there that there’s a high chance it will not stack and it’s designed that way so ppl cant double dip,

I’m not following, where do you see this plan that gives EDR points only at 35% discount.

This is the actual offer in app, which mentions “Feel at Home Campaign”.
If you go to Gas plans page then scroll down and click Energy Fact Sheet (Gas) and after inputting your address you can see PDF from the one that says “Origin Everyday Rewards Variable - Feel at Home Offer” which corresponds to that 15K EDR app campaign.
The figure shown there for tariffs rate is the same as the one in my table in the OP, which clearly says 8.62c/unit, translates to 50% discount.

I have called their CS and they confirmed it, guess have to see what my first bill says but if all works well then it should be 50% discount and not 35% like you said.

Their other Fact Sheet PDF “Origin Everyday Rewards Variable rates is slightly higher, i’d say around 46% discount with 5K bonus EDR which would normally by default take place when this EDR app offer is not available.

      • ah cool. i might have misunderstood it then. i saw the estimated cost/year being higher and assumed it was less discount.

  • Make sure you follow up & make sure you are credited the points. I wasn't when I transferred on a similar deal & I am still chasing it up months later. Every time I contact someone I get "we will look into it" then nothing.

  • +1

For people who are switching, do you know if your Government Credit will appear at the next electricity bill with Origin? I heard mixed responses on this and apparently you need to contact Energy Australia?

Also is Origin's rate on their website current or old one? Can someone post their new rates, AGL is now $1 for supply hoping to get less somewhere else…

  • Can you also get $50 referral reward along with the Everyday Rewards Points?

    • I asked the CS and he said it's not possible. Also tried it myself, and I don't think it can stack, because the starting point for each of these offers are different.
The referral one require you to start by clicking someone's ref link, and doing it that way you can't go to this offer's page.
That is my assumption, but if you manage to somehow stack them, please let us know

  • +1

Perfect timing for me - due to switch all 3. Thx!

  • +2

    CR increase the reward today
New Electricity & Natural Gas Sign Ups $250
    New Electricity Sign Up $150
    New Gas Signup $100

    • If doing it this way, do you know if can be stacked with referral bonus?

      • seems somesone asked above, you can't stack

  • I find the different in TC
CR - need to stay 90 days
EDR - need to stay 30 days only

  • Origin's new prices from 1 July.
    1st 12 units: 8.8220 cents per unit
    remainder: 7.9640 cents per unit
    daily supply: 25.5640 cents per
    day

can we please update the spreadsheet against AGL's new prices?

    • @motherdough please update it, based on this fact sheet

Just asked AGL live chat, according to them, only AGL Account service fee will increase on 01 July. The gas prices will follow on 01 August.

      • +1

        Hi,
Here is the sheet with updated account fee. I made it publicly editable to all now, so feel free to change it, or copy + save your own version. My location is showing different prices for the increase so probably better to let people edit themselves

  • I called them up and rather than points I managed to get $200 off the first bill which is more than doing the gas and electricity (i dont want their internet lol)

    • Pls do tell how you achieve that shifu 🙏

      • +1

literally googled Origin Energy Contact and called them lol

and asked for a price and told them to send it to my email and I’ll review it, after that he suddenly offered 200 credit if I sign up now so I did

Plan was cheaper than what AGL was offering me as well

fyi no rewards points for this plan but you can probably switch after the first bill and you get your credit since its not a lock in contract.

        • Were the rates same or better than Origin Everyday Rewards Variable energy plan ?

  • Tried to sign up for gas only, but then there is this fine print as below.
that would completely kill the promotion if being charged…

    "Cost and fees
One-off distributor connection fees may apply. Natural gas: Between $20 and $100."

  • I signed up nbn offer with 12 months Free Paramount+. Got the code after numerous queries with Origin. Signed up with Paramount on laptop n all well. Then tried to sign in on iPhone Paramount App, it said credentials issue. I used to hav Paramount on my Iphone in 2023 then cancelled. For this deal I used a different email. Now can’t set up on my iphone. Anyone face this issue begore and how do you resolve it? Cheers
