9yo Sony just kicked the bucket. Some research led to TCL C6K 2025 being a good entry TV model (2025). Existing deal for $1295 (exclude delivery) here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/910189

Was able to go into my local Good Guys and they matched the price.

  • Been needing a new tv and it doesn’t look like the c755 65” model is gonna resurface in deals anymore.

I don’t have plus but may need to jump on their couponless price. It says they only have 4 left in stock so I think I will miss out while I check details

edit or I suppose I can just sign up for a month of plus for $5..?

    • +7

$5 sign up then cancel. You still get the whole month to use it more if anything comes up

    • +4

TV secured with the free shipping, thank you OP, thank you scottySK

    • +1

Yeah pretty sure all the C755 gone now (or almost). Feels like we won't get a good EOFY deal on the C7K, might be waiting until Black Friday for a good deal on that one…

      • Yeah not convinced we will get one on the c7k it's what I'm waiting for.

  • +1

Good deal, I was able to snag the c7k 65" for around $1350 with ebay plus from the same seller a few weeks ago if anyone is holding out for the c7 models

    • How's the c7k going?

  • -5

Dont expect a TCL to last anywhere near as long as a sony. Myself and a few friends have had them and they tend to kick it around the 3-4 year mark. Mine died about a month ago just after warranty finished, so have moved on.

    • Oh this sucks to know.

I just got a TCL c7k recently.. was hoping it to last 5-10 years.

What's recommended for long lasting these days?

      Just Sony?

    • +1

nooo… here i am thinking 5-10 years should be standard for a tv…

      • +4

I bought 3 tcls and it's been A decade. Only issue with them are the smart tv, which is easily remedied.

    • +3

I can say exactly the same about Sony. Mine last sony 65" died after only 2 years

      • +5

Likewise on my Sony 55". Main-board died 1 month after 1yr warranty expired. Sony refused warranty offered billable service. Pressed for ACL under 'acceptable quality'. They weren't going to proceed until I requested confirmation they were refusing ACL in writing to raise with Fair Trading & ACCC, soon changed their minds.

    • My tcls have all got to the 6-7 year mark and are going strong

Talking the truth about TCL is like talking the truth about the Catholic Church.

      • the truth about the Catholic Church.

and what is the truth about Catholic Church?

        • Anything they proclaim as truth isn't truth is the truth.

    • 10+ years on mine. Still using it

    • +1

Same thing happened with my Hisense. I complained to Hisense they said they couldn't do anything.

Sent them an email that I wasn't impressed and I will be lodging a vcat application, someone got back to me and they sent me a new Hisense tv.

I'm actually looking forward to die to replace it with a TCL, heard nothing but good things and my brother has 2 of them, going strong and it's been years

Personally I'd stay away from the 6 series

7 and up is the sweet spot (have a c855) and it's great

    • This year they upgraded 6 series (well K version) to miniLED though. Gonna try to see what one looks like in store. Looked at C655 vs C755 previously and was not a fan of C655, wondering how much better the C6K looks with that miniLED panel.

Guess who is the joker who paid 1464 and thought it was a bargain. Sadly its me :(

    • if its recent, maybe consider returning and get the deal?

      • Sad story is TGG refused to do so coz I didnt buy the Golden Extra

  • What you guys on about TV's lasting 5-6 years is acceptable? My 18 year old $4000 Sony LCD TV (Japan) is still working. So is my $2700 13 year old Panasonic Plasma (Japan) . Only damn reason I still haven't bought a new TV or ventured into 4K, both TV's refuse to die.

    • +3

newer models may be using cheaper electronic components

      Plasma 13yrs old, LCD 18yrs old ??? I smell something fishy…

      • +1

No fish, only very good TV's. 2007 Sony LCD (With free PS3 bundle lol). 2012 Panasonic Plasma. Both 1080P.

        • -1

I'm more questioning the fact the LCD is from 2007 and Plasma 2012? I thought they stopped making the plasmas a few years prior to that date and LCD wasn't a thing until 2010 onwards I could definitely be wrong

      • -3

Plasma might be going strong with pixels burnt out everywhere.

        Lcd I call bs

      • +1

Nope, I've also got a Panasonic Viera 50" 1080p plasma from 2009 (16 years old!) still working absolutely fine. No dead pixels either. I guess that era of Japanese electronic components was just extremely reliable.

I recently bought a 4K Sony OLED for a different room and the plasma looks like shit compared to that (terrible blacks by comparison), but I don't have the heart to get rid of something that still works perfectly. Plus I'm curious to see just how long it lives, I really expected it to be dead by now!

        • Nice. Mine is the Panasonic Plasma P65VT50 series. Weighs 50KG, with giant copper and aluminium heatsinks to stay cool. Picture quality when feeding both 1080P content is still excellent, although nowhere near close to my Sony OLED TV but they do give modern LCD TV's a run for their money especially the Panasonic Plasma. They surely don't make TV's to last like these now. User Bretttick might have been burnt by buying Kogan TV's hehehe.

Just dropped $2k on a new tv, am i getting 10 years or 2 years, lottery. Quality is rubbish these days. Sigh. My just dead Sony lasted 10 years, which was kind of disappointing. 10 feels like the absolute minimum it should last.

  • +1

Cheers OP, price matched at TGG yesterday, just mentioned it was this price elsewhere and they didn't even ask where. Pretty happy so far.

  • My 60" LG FHD Plasma is still going strong after 14 years and it doubles as a heater in winter.
