Why are Asus routers so expensive.

Down to a decent price.

Doesn't seem to support Merlin tho.

That's why one would get a GL iNet router boi. A router just needs to be reliable and not a bloated backdoor spyware posing as a router.

    • Have to agree, I switched to GliNet from Asus and not only is it just as good or even better, but I have more money left in my pocket.

Looking to get the Flint 3 once my set up gets more Wi-Fi 7 capable components that can make use of the Wi-Fi 7.

GL iNet is from China. Asus is Taiwan, a close US ally. You know who to trust.

      • Asus actually proven to have backdoor

Not sure why that matters to the argument

        • Flint 2, my main issue is MediaTek chipset (talk about vulnerabilities lol) and only 1 USB port. Flint 3, it is obviously first gen WiFi 7 setup (so no 10Gbps port I think) and not the latest gen Qualcomm chipset. 1GB RAM for a WiFi 7 router… oh well, I guess at least the pre-order price is somewhat reasonable. What does it take so long to release Flint 3 anyway? So many 2x2 WiFi 7 routers on the market already.

For me, if I want a MediaTek based router, I'd rather just go dirt cheap and OpenWRT it myself. Hard to get excited about Flint 3 when my OPNSense setup already has multiple 10Gbps ethernet ports.

Wow not the "Reds under the Bed" chestnut.

I wouldn't trust America for anything at the moment.

      • I'm not sure that's so clear-cut anymore

    • How about TP Link, do you know? Thanks

      • TP-Link generally offers more cost effective network devices. However, it still depends on the model. TP-Link does have high end models. There is also Mercusys, which is basically TP-Link's sister brand (which cuts cost even more).

For example, this particular router, while it supports WiFi 6E, the CPU itself is relatively weak (hence supporting only 2x2).

  • Good price for an ASUS router with WiFi 6E.

Just note this one is still using the older 3.0.0.4 firmware codebase and no indication or beta for upgrading to 3.0.0.6.

  • I have a ASUS RT-AX86U Pro under the stairs Right in the centre to one side of the house. Sometimes wifi is a bit spotty right in the corners of the house upstairs. But it does show about -68dB. A wifi light occasionally gets lost.

W something with more antennas like this make a difference?

  • Disappointing says 12 days left but centrecom and amazon both showing back to $399
