Pixel 8 devices notoriously have that green screen issue (google for it). I just returned the device and got a replacement device in warranty just before the warranty expires (2 yrs).

    • Did they just give you another Pixel 8?

      • yes, a refurbished one.

  • Not sure whether to get this for my kid who always drops their (my) phone. The reports of the screen and the phone being fragile is making me hesitate.

  • I got the one I reserved and purchased another one no probs at the store

  • I called up and was able to purchase 2. The stores that had stock were too far from me so I paid $10 to have the phones delivered.

google pixel or oppo?I think oppo is way better

  • I picked up one today paid $579 for my original Pixel 8 almost precisely 2 years ago. After today's pickup I promptly transferred all my data to the new phone and dropped my P8 #1 to Toll, expecting a replacement from Google in the next week, which will now be my wifes new phone…..

    • What’s the issue with your old p8 ?

      • +1

Small display imperfections around the front facing camera. Similar to as discussed here:
        https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/288674200/asymm…

Quick chat with support (gave them a photo from my laptop webcam) and advised I'd attempted a factory reset. Return paperwork was in my inbox shortly after

        • Thank you. I bought one yesterday for my dad. Good thing is the phone comes with 2 years of warranty.

        • Does this issue affect the 8 pro models?

          • @milanoxpress: I haven't seen any reports. Honestly I only noticed it on full white screens (which is rare as I run dark theme). It was just a case that my warranty is about to run about and it is technically a defect so take my chance that a refurb model will last longer than my 2yo phone

  • All the seq Brisbane pixel 8 128gb stocks dried up from stores in carseldine, Ipswich, loganholme, oxley tingalpa. Most ppl probably picked up 2-3 units or could just purchased one unit only. Good on people who managed to grab *one

There was some stocks yesterday arvo in some Brisbane stores but I guess you gotta be super quick to grab a bargain pixel.

Just curious can you make a bit of margin re-selling $399 pixel 8 to other buyers that would know that this particular pixel model was on sale for $399 then on-selling for maybe $500-$700. Would you buy it knowing it is only worth $399 at most? Would you buy it at that the inflated price? Just wanted to the psychology behind it.

I personally wouldn't buy one for more than $399. You still get 5 years security updates from Google & a decent point & shoot phone camera. Thats all to it for the the pixel 8 vanilla.

Is the battery on the P8 poor? Assuming the stocks being sitting on warehouse floor from 2023. Battery degrades from the moment it manufactured & pixel 8 battery wasn't stellar to begin with back in 2023. The pixel 9 series provided a decent upgrade on the battery life. Google needs to ditch tensor series and go back to using Qualcomm snapdragon chips & also provide at least 7 years OS & security updates.
Samsung can do it for their S, A , Z flip, Z fold series why can't Google do it as well. It would sell even more better & hopefully resale values would improve compared to Samsung & Apple. Right now Pixel phones drop value like a rock. Nearly worthless amount after 4-5 years on the used market. Not the same situation with Samsung & Apple phones. They hold better resale value plus the inevitable depreciation associated with any tech products. iPhones dip 35-40% the moment you open and use it.

It seems Apple authorized re-sellers like tgg, jbhifi, ow, Costco, hardley normal, hub by triforce regularly discount current release iPhone 16 series by $300-400 from the Apple rrp price. Maybe it's the current economic climate & trump tariffs affecting these Apple iPhone discounts not seen before in the previous iPhone models.

I wonder how much Apple Aus would price the upcoming iPhone 17 series? Stay the same as current 16series or raise prices just a little to factor in currency fluctuatations.
I'm finished with Apple phones costing over $1000. Just buy pre-owned or heavily discounted new stock. I like my iPhone SE. Really basic phone with minimal fuss & works reliably every time I use it. Small 4.7 inch display is the one you need to get used to compared with phablet sized phones currently dominating the phone market nowadays.

    Only smallish compact phone available to purchase in 2025 is s25, iPhone 12/13 mini,Zenfone 9/10 & iP SE 2nd & 2rd gen.

I wrote too much and got carries away lol.
