  • Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo Handset (Blue Gradient) SRP $360 [Factory Scoop] for $278.

For those less tech savvy which is better? $28 isn't a whole lot of difference!

    • Edit - ALSO AT JB HIFI!

    • +1

      Razr V (definitely)

  • I have a budget of around $400 MAX and I am replacing a 3 year old phone.

I mostly use Whatsapp/messaging programs/facebook/browsing/email and rarely call. Battery life and maybe a decent screen and ease of use is important.

Should I just go for this, or are there better options?

    • +2

Moto Razr Maxx from Expansys.com.au might be the one

      • If only for the Battery Life, this is the winner.

    • If that's what your needs are, I would go for this. No reason to spend more money than you need to.

Keep in mind you will most likely be stuck with Android 4.0 though.

    • imo, choose samsung galaxy nexus, far better than this and easiest phone to put/install any custom rom

  • Anyone can confirm what model this one is???

I cannot see the exact model number on the pic and the website. As i just Google it, i found out it has 2 or 3 models, for China, Canada Markets…

    • XT885, first comment

  • Still 388
    Cant wait to buy it.
When will the deal come out?

    • +1

      It's reduced now, online

  • Id say this and the $179 Xperia Sola are the bargain phones of choice at the moment. Corking good deal.

    • The sola is lower in spec No front camera less RAM has only 512 AND less CPU also cheep plastic on the sola compare to kevlar back on the V

  • Hi, does anyone know if this does handwriting input (or do all Androids do it) for english, chinese handwriting recognition etc?

This could be a rookie question, apologies in advance

  • i'm a bit worried about the 4gb internal memory and even at that price it's a dealbreaker

    • True. Works out to be about 2gig for apps, and that's just not enough these days. I think it would become very frustrating.

  • +1

I can't believe it…on Monday I bought a second hang Samsung Galaxy S2 and thought I was getting a great deal. CURSE YOU OZBARGAIN.

  • -2

damn it AUZ bargain i just bought one althought i dont need it:):)

  • so this is better than an S2 (if equal in price)?

    • +3

S2 us better imo as it has much more support for custom roms, more accessories, 16GB internal storage instead of 4Gb, and most importantly it's getting the Jellybean update

      • Very nice to see this.

    • +4

where is the S2 equal in price? New

  • -8

Ok so for a $100 more you can get the new NEXUS that is apparently the Iphone 5 killer… no doubt the added cost is off set by the added technology… WHEN DOES THE NEXUS 8GB become available??? CAN SOMEONE TELL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

    • +2

I agree the Nexus 4 8GB is easily worth the $123($20 delivery) more, but it's out of stock and has been for a while now.

    • Note that you need to factor in amount $25 or so for shipping the set from Google Play.

The Nexus 4 isn't so much an iPhone killer as it is a serious challenger to the GS3 and other Android phones. I have one and it's much more impressive in hand than the photos suggest. Great screen, feels solid (less plasticy than the GS3). The haptic feedback is one of the best I've used. The lack of a physical home button = lost screen real estate due the constant presence of the virtual home and back keys.

      Still, a great phone.

This Moto one is good for specs but I can't handle 4GB internal memory at all. A game like GTA4 is already 475mb. Newer games can hit 1GB in size. You'll need to add a 32GB micro SD card and move apps to the card.

      • According to forums, owners say you can't move apps to the SD card on this phone.

        • but you can root it. Maybe the market app "Apps2SD" can move apps then? (rather than android's built-in apps moving to SD feature)

      • So for an additional $148 or 60% of cost yes I do get more but I would expect to. Internal memory isnt an issue for me as I dont use it. so for the price (even with the regretable lack of 4G) this phone will need to be purchased.

        • +1

Anything with 4G costs at least double so I don't understand why people bang on about the lack of 4G in a $250 handset. Lol.

        • if anyone is looking for a 4g phone in 300 price range, there is the telstra frontier 4g, i have the phone since the day it was launched, u cant find a cheaper 4g phone on the market, its ok but not great, like the camera sucks @ss! and the screen viewing angles are not that good, battery life is very good, but for 300 you can't do better for a 4g phone.

      • ummm …. maybe Vice City?

    • the iphone will kill itself soon enough, much of a muchness (I don't even know what that means)

  • gsmarena.com says it has a non-removable battery ! Back to the S2.

  • Hmmm, worth the upgrade from my $99 Motorola Defy? Or wait another 6 months for the next gens phones to come out and pushing current model pricing down….?

    • is your moto defy slow a all h3ll?
my dad's is. when i see him next i will flasher00 it.

      • it is a bit sluggish, not sure what you mean by flasher00 though? please explain…

        • +4

          flasher:
A person, usually a man, who takes pleasure in exhibiting his private parts to random people in public. A cliché flasher wears a dust-coat, flabs of which he spreads in front of his victim(s).
          http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flasher

00 in a graphic term may help you to understand :)

  • I just got one at JB Hi-Fi, Queens Street, Brisbane. I really love it.

  • Tempted to get it but the 2GB storage is worrying…

  • isnt someone say its 4GB internal storage, or it only got 2GB?

    • +1

It is 4GB but almost 2GB is used up for the operating system files and standard apps. That leaves 2GB and for your own apps. Of course, you can store your data like music and photos on a miniSD card.

      • What size do those miniSD things go up to? Is it 32gb or something? I'd appreciate it if somebody could post a link to what one looks like if you have time. I am absolute clueless about phones. I've been using one of the below phones since forever. However, I'm about to go and pick up one of these things. From the research I've done today, it looks like the Kogan plans are ok?

        http://image.ffmobile.com/product/photo/41/93/10046091.2d54a…

        http://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/

Edit - I assume it's one of these after googling?

        http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Cam…

        • +1

Kogan plans are pretty good if you need the telstra coverage. Otherwise optus resellers like tpg or vaya are also quite popular.

Yep that officeworks link is correct, it's called a microsd card. Specs says it can take up to 32FB micro sd cards.

  • Thanks OP, reserved one for tomorrow. Should be 4 left in Bendigo, if anyone's interested.

  • Ended up buying one for my wife. She's not a game player and needs a better phone to replace her DHD.

Just unboxed it and having a play - shame about the 2GB storage because it's quite a nice phone - solid build quality and pretty responsive.

    Found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262

Hope that'll fix the storage issue when I need to cross that bridge.

    • You'll need to root the phone to use that tool.

(Note, that this phone is rootable)

  • huge concern on 4gb memory. thats very small space for apps

  • +2

Aus price is always a ripped off,.. I found this in Indo price. It's been sold for $190 for long time
I thought this $246 is good price already. Well my point is just to compare the price in other part of d world out there. I know we won't go overseas just to buy phone! http://www.mobnes.com/2012/07/motorola-razr-v-xt889-hp-2012-…

    • +1

It's harder to claim warranty on online sites plus that site you posted looks shady.

  • Thanks OP, bought one at Brisbane CBD, seemed plenty of stock left.

  • I just got this phone as well. When unboxing it says visit the moto lounge and click on EA redemption to download free games. I click on Moto lounge and it says it's currently not available to me. I really wanted free monopoly!

Also does anyone have recommendations for a good task killer or a big Weather Widget? I have tried to download some but none of them seem right.

    • Task killers shouldn't be used in android anymore. they just cause problems and android has built-in task optimisation anyway.

1weather had a decent widget when I used to have it installed.

    • I seem to have the same problem, trying to find a way how to. Anyone figured?

  • +1

    Grabbed one today, thanks OP.

  • +1

Grabbed one today as well. Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP. My dad was after a new phone. This presented good value for money for him.

  • Bought one. This actually does take a standard sim card.

  • +1

Awesome phone at a chinese knock off phone price. I saw buy one… i just got one as a second phone… a lot of high end prepaid phones dont even get near this price and they are much worse in spec…

    and mmmmmm… sexy sexy kevlar… +1 for just the kevlar alone… :D

  • Grabbed one today aswell. Typing this msg on it. Should do me until next gen of smartphones arrive. Overall very impressed with the phone. Thanks OPOP

  • Keep the reviews coming please.
Whats it like as a phone?
How is the loudspeaker when you have it on hands free?
How long does the battery last?
Is the screen actually 4.3" or do the 3 buttons on the bottom take up some of that?

  • I picked the phone today its very fast i can say its as fast as the galaxy s2( my previous phone)very resposive to touch apps are very smooth The feel of it is very premium i will use it as back up for my galasy s3
Its fully charged iwill put a sim tomorrow and use it and test calls and report back here
Also there is talk on motorola forum about this phone getting jealy beans this month .
3 buttons will disappear when viewing videos or youtube but will stay when browsing the net.

  • +1

Bought this as a replacement for my Nexus One, which has well and truly had its day. Couldn't wait for the Nexus 4, like many others here.

Very happy so far. Well built hardware with a very clean installation of ICS 4.0.4. The only minor customisation needed was to disable the default '3D' headphone EQ setting to make music actually listenable.

The shiny metallic bezel around the screen looks like it will get scratched up pretty quickly though, even if the Kevlar back and GG screen are more resistant to wear and tear. Can't complain, for the price.

    Thanks OP!

    • Couldn't wait for the Nexus 4

      Coming mid-Feb apparently.

  • +3

So, anyone know where can find cheap accessories for this phone. Couldn't really find anything on eBay. After flip leather case to protect or even a back skin cover

    • +6

So, this phone's battery is not removable??? Anyone can confirm this???

      It is not removable.

Please "+" me if you think i should get this one!!!

This isn't Youtube or Facebook, so please don't do that. I would hope you're old enough to make informed decisions by yourself, instead of relying on the number of +1's next to your comment.

  • +1

Has anyone managed to find a simple TPU case for one of these phones? no dice on ebay, at least for me.

    • My preliminary findings: Google Shopping Results
The first and third ones aren't too bad, IMO. I don't know about the reliability of the shops… but if they take Paypal, it shouldn't be a problem. I'll keep looking, though.

Edit; ah, might not be compatible (different model numbers). I'll leave that ^ there though.

  • +2

I was also worried about storage, but brought one today. Installed 10 apps (no games)still have 1.8gb free. I don't think its would be a deal breaker for non-gamers.

  • +2

Bought 1 today too. So far so good. Thought that the 2Gb space would kill be but I've installed almost all the apps I need and I still have 1.5Gb free. All the music and pictures and photos are on the SD card.

So far, very happy with it. Been meaning to jump back into the android world for a while, but the current phones are too big for me. (This one doesn't feel too bad) And I couldn't wait for the Nexus 4 either…

Look for XT885 accessories and that would bring up accessories for this phone. Worked out that mine is Optus stock. Battery is definitely not removable.

  • +2

I bought this cover from eBay location HK
    http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=25121307237…

  • My car mount keep failling. Anyone knows where i can get a good one for this phone and if possible cheap?

    • +1

Spend some money and get a good quality mount like these ones:

      http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=ram+mount+x-grip&_sacat=…

I've always used cheap mounts in the past but they just don't last. RAM mounts rocks - yes a bit of initial outlay but they're good quality.

      • +1

given the price, better off buying a cheap gps instead.

        • Might get gps instead since my last two phone switch off when its too hot. The heat sensor thing popups.

      • Did a bit of research on the Ram Mounts. Your right it seem to be the best. I don't care if its expensive as long as my phone don't fall and break i'm happy. Thanks

  • bought one today as well… advancing from Nokia dumb phone to this… so it already feels like I am travelling at warp speed… once charged I insert my vaya sim and ozbargain app here I commmmmmmeeeeee

  • To anyone who got one, is it jelly bean, 4.1, or still ICS? And has it got Google Now?

    • No jelly bean yet only ICS 4.0.4

  • Got one today. Loving it so far. If anyone could get the free EA games please let me know. Couldn't work it out.

    • I couldn't get it either. Never worked it out :( Keeps on telling me that I don't qualify for it or something.

  • Was feeling all independent today so I went down to JB all by myself, money in hand and everything, only to be told that, since I was 17, they couldn't sell it to me. Maaaaaan….

Oh well, I guess I'll have to bring someone down tomorrow. I would have thought that since it was an unlocked phone I would have been able to do it myself, but whatever.

Seems a good deal too, and I need a new phone. Just hope it's not out when I get there.

    • its a nice phone, and yeh they asked me for me drivers license im 19, I talked to the salesperson and they said cause of the IMIE number or something, I was still annoyed as it is an outright phone. Seems like they do that so they can track people… invasion of privacy IMO.

  • Its might a stupid question but just wonder is compatible with vodafone sim card?

  • Does the phone come with a screen protector already attached from factory?

    • No you will have to buy one. Doesn't matter they are not expensive anyway.

  • +1

Got one for my wife. I like the phone quite alot actually. $250 is our phone budget because that way, you can knock them around a little bit and it dosent matter much. It looks like it will take some knocks too. Pretty robust compared to s3. Though accessories options are limited. The speakerphone is a little tinny would be the only thing I noticed so far.

Seems to be fine what she wants to do really considering spec-wise its around an s2. Find it works really well. Doubt any updates will come out of motorola though. Will be great if they do.

Might get one for myself as well methinks.

  • I like the phone. It has done two full days without a charge, although it will probably run out soon. Performance is very smooth. The 2 gigs of onboard storage left over is not as bad as it seems as most apps put their downloaded data on the SD card by default.

Sound, the speaker, is smooth and sufficiently loud. GPS and maps work okay.

The one thing that annoys me is that many apps are listed as incompatible for this phone - Rayman Jungle Run, for example. I have tried to install the vending mod for Google Play but it doesnt work, perhaps because this phone is ICS and not JB. If anyone finds a solution for this I would be grateful.

    • How do you know that the apps put their downloaded data on th SD card by default?

  • Would this be a upgrade from my HTC Desire HD?

    • Yes. My wife has a Desire HD and its getting long in the tooth. This phone is much faster and smoother…

  • Phone is a good deal, been using it for about 3 days now. Battery life is better than expected, easily get 24 hours with moderate use. Only bad thing is a bit a backlight bleed around the edges, first phone was returned and exchanged this one is a bit better though, only noticeable on black images. I haven't noticed any lag at all really.

  • +4

Hi all. After quite a while talking with Motorola support I finally got access to the free games.
You need to open this link: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/c737a71d10
Find the EA Games redemption.apk (325KB) on the page and install it. Hope it works for you.

    • I can't seem to install it after I downloaded it. Any tips?
Nvm I got it. Thanks for the post, appreciated.
