121

Let me show you step by step how to get your new aluminium macbook 2.0Ghz 22% off down from $2099 to $1639 and the educational price is $2029.

  1. Go to Dick Smith or JB hi fi to get your best price (I managed get 10% off at DSE which down to $1890. Some people got 15% off and some got 8% off…. and it really depends the salesperson at JB or DSE to get your best price.)

  2. Go to Myer and get the price match

  3. Buy $2000 gift card and you get $200 gift card free (this is another 10% off and only available at myer) Hurry, this promotion ends on 24/12/2008

  4. Use your gift card to pay your macbook and don’t forget to use your myer one card to get another 2% off

  5. There you go! Congratulation! You should have your macbook for just under $1640!

You should still have $310 +$40 (myer one gift card) left on your gift card but the gift card expiries in 2 year time so it shouldn’t be a problem if you live near myer and shop there often.

At the end of the day you should save yourself approx of $460 and that is actually cheaper than the white macbook for $1649.

So good luck! And Merry Christmas!

the real deal here in the free $200 gift voucher, which would probably be the easiest way to save some $ on your macbook without all that work.

    • hi itscross, merry christmas

yeah… they don't often have gift card promotion… it is very rare that myer have these promotion…

but if you want to save yourself extra few 100 dollars… this is the way to go

        merry christmas :D

  • why can we just go to myer and ask them to price match the cheapest one people got ?

it's not like you get a written quote from DSE, are you ?

    • Hi tinx, merry xmas to you first

Well, Myer won't mark down price on macbooks. ONLY they will mark down if you show the salesperson the quote first.

Like when show my DSE quote to myer team member, he had to talk to manager for 5 minutes before agree this price.

It really depends your myer team member…

    • Myer rejected price match for Kmart Wii Fit last week!

      • well they accept the DSE quote… but how much was the wii fit at kmart?

        • $119 @ Kmart & I think Myer price is $139. Their answer is simple NO, it's below cost!
Just wondering is there a written policy for price match at Myer?

          • @POWERevolution: No way! i brought my wii fit back in May for just $109 with myer one promotion and i got free towel as well…

Your myer team member was 100% BSing to you…

            • @WhyPayMore: lol that's their favourite line this season, got that one from hardley normal and kmart. All lies!

            • @WhyPayMore: A lot of product is linked to US pricing, the Wii Fit has definitely been priced much higher due to the Auusie dollar dropping way down from near parity with the US dollar.

$109 was the right price a couple of months ago, it hasn't been more recently.

  • Is it possible to outline the steps on how could you get the written quote from DSE / JB salesperson.

    Thanks. Merry Christmas

      Yes, sure

      1. Walk to apple department at JB or DSE
      2. just ask the salesperson for the best price
      3. Can you do it for $1890? (which is 10% off)
      4. Either yes or no
      5. If yes, ask him if he can write down and if no just try another JB/DSE store

The whole thing should just take under 2 minutes.

For me, i don't need a written quote, i just walk into Myer and just tell the salesperson i got a quote from DSE for 1890…(which is 10% off) if you can do for that price, i will buy it immediately…. the salesperson had to talk to manager for 5 minutes… and the whole thing took 10 minutes including purchase of gift cards.

  • Be quick guys! this promotion is going to end 6:00pm tonight!

If you want to get a real apple macbook bargain, this is the way to go!

Plus it is a great gift for last minute Christmas shopper!

  • back then they have the Office 2008 leather case pack with app purchased, using the gift card bonus already at good price.

    • so how much did u pay for macbook itself before using gift card?

what u r telling us is u brought your apple care for $419 with office 2008?

      • i think all up cost $2500 before using the giftcard, given you buy at rrp. There was the promotion inside the Myer mytech catalogue. macbook+aap comes free with Leather case and Office 08. I didn't buy macbook given the pale 6bit LCD screen, but i think the leather case (Toffee $99), APP ($419) and Office 08 ($200) are useful items than a barebone macbook. I sold my old macbook simple because of the screen, amazed apple kept the poor quality screen on the new macbook.

        Given the above
        $2500 with giftcard 10% off = $2250
minus those items totaling approx $700
the macbook is comparable in cost.

As a salesperson I hate being played. If you play a salesperson and waste their time, I hope karma ends up getting you. Next time, just don't bother wasting the original salespersons time if you don't intend to buy. If you want it cheap, just go to Myer and state you got 10% of so and so store, rather than go somewhere else that you don't intend to buy and waste that persons time. Imagine if you were the salesperson in that situation.

I remember someone once tried to play me against someone at Bing Lee, when someone at Bing Lee called for a price on the same item, I gave them the ticket price, don't know what they ended up doing.

Just so you know, generally anything over 10% discount for a mac/ipod is fairly good. That's about how much most retailers make on, maybe a little bit more. This is why they are so keen to push applecare, cases, software etc, because that has more profit in it.

I wouldn't really call it a deal unless you can walk in get this deal immediately, that is, without having to jerk people around, guaranteed.

No offence to the OP, but this is basically a way to scam a cheap Macbook (not a bargain). People here seem to love that kinda stuff so I guess it fits in well :)

^ Title should be changed to scam then, not bargain. I understand the principle of saving cash but having to go store to store and with the trouble and deception required, this really isn't great.

Kranbone, if you were a good salesman, you would know how to avoid the time wasters.

And if they ask you for a price - you would know what to say to prevent them from getting a price unless they were ready to go.

I work as a retail salesman and believe me - no-one wastes my time.

Shoot me a PM — Give me any scenario and I'll teach you how to make sure you're not being played. (I'm serious I'm not taking the piss)

I'm glad that these crazy ways to get discounts are being posted and I'm a long time salesperson myself.

I agree time wasters are annoying - but it means you're letting them waste your time.

    • I know how to avoid herrings mate, and on top of that I'm a great salesperson but thanks for the offer :)

My concern is that the casuals who rock up won't know how to deal with these and in turn other people who are not being served but genuinely WANT to buy will be discarded.

Like I said, I understand the value of saving money, but in this case, I wouldn't call this offer a bargain more so a scam as it involves you to do many things to receive a hot price and even then, it also depends on the Myer sales member as well as the Dickies sales member.

Thanks though for the offer, it's appreciated, Merry Christmas.

      • I'll agree with Kranbone about casuals not knowing what they are doing - very annoying. Best way for them to learn thoough.

        But I don't think it's a scam.

i don't see this as a scam. getting a pricematch and using a myer discount is not scamming. If kranbone can match the myer price then thats great, if not and a customer can get something cheaper i'm all for them going to the cheaper vendor.

A real scam would be getting a printout of an discounted/discontinued ipod touch 8gb (v1 model) and trying to get officeworks to price match it with a v2 model.

This is certainly a great bargain and not often can u get a "legitimate" big discount off an apple product.

Sounds like a great deal… IF you can be bothered doing all that run-around, and IF all the maybes and hopefullys come off.
It's cute to see Apple the people spending so much time and effort trying to get a reduced price on the overpriced hardware.
Of course they make up for it when they actually get the thing home because all they do is take it out of the box and EVERYTHING is there ready to go. Unlike the person buying a Windows machine that just looks up the Green Guide, selects the hardware specs they want, chooses the most convenient, lowest price, and doesn't stress that it's too much, because it's almost impossible to buy an overpriced, underpowered computer these days. Unless it's Uber stylish and "Designed In California".

    • IF you can be bothered?? Well for $200 I can certainly be bothered. Even if it takes 2 hours that's $100 an hour. That's a pretty well paid job. Too bad you can only be employed for 2 hours ;)

  • If anything's a scam, then price matching things at the major chains are definitely the biggest scams luring customer to think they're getting a cheap deal with lowest price guarantees and price promises.

DJ: That's our Price Promise. And that's why it costs no more to shop at David Jones.

If they want to play the consumers, they have to be prepared that they'll be played by those who has the know-how.
