If planning to connect an XSX to it then it's probably worth it if you want HDR to work.
PS5 will do HDR at any resolution without requiring 4K downscaling, but 4k downscaling is still a nice feature to have as you can render/output in 4K on PS5 and have it downscaled to 1440p for better image quality.
You don’t want to both with “HDR” with this type of display. Being edge-lit at only 400 nits means it’s not suitable for HDR use.
I’ve seen the results myself on this class of panel and it’s never nice.
I have an Msi optix 27 inch curved 1440p. Im noticing black lines across the bottom when its cold
Would this be an upgrade?
Yeah. IPS is generally better than VA panels. The IPS is better in every way except contrast.
Thanks for the feedback. I might hold off im just being stingy haha
IPS monitors are so cheap now. I only got the Dell S2721DGF for about $400 and back then it was considered a steal. I still use that monitor today.
My last VA panel died after 3 years and I hated the curve as multiple people couldn't look at the monitor. That monitor cost me $600, 5 years ago.
If you can afford it, I'd go with OLED or QLED or quantum dot. If you're gaming, IPS is pretty good compromise.
I would avoid VA now, it's too risky as black smear is not very nice to look at when gaming, especially with any fast-paced games.
@User0001: Yeah, this cost me about $550.
I like the curved actually. What kills me currently is if I watch a movie is see a lot of (i dont know the correct term) black bleeding (where you see white from the corners) in dark scenes. Does this happen in newer screens. I want to double up, good WFH screens and gaming and movies when needed
Im just conscious of fps; i only have a 2080 in my pc, so most games cant run at 1440p at high fps, so then the higher refresh rates of the monitor goes to waste right?
Ordered this the last time it was one sale, great monitor so far. Loving it.
easy to swap between different inputs? (DP, HDMI)
Yeah, up twice on the thingy, then select the input you want.
What?
They sometimes just repeat some of the text from the deal lol:
Wtf lol
Someone mentioned in last deal there are RGB and BGR models and it's luck of the draw, BGR not as good for small text, I got the latter a month or so a go, was for my son solely for gaming so no big deal
yeah you want the LG panel
will this monitor be over killed for office, youtube and movies?
I purchased this for my wife for her home office setup: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DP71MB39?th=1
Works really well and its a decent monitor for the price.
The PPI is ~18% better than a 1080p at 24". So yep it's crisper for MS Office applications. Re YouTube and Movies … Like all IPS monitors it's useable but never going to match a TV. It is one of the best price/performances IPS monitors. So pretty highly rated. Have one and very happy with it.
Over kill? There's no such thing.
Good monitor for the most part but just note that it has a really bad response time when turning it on or alt tabbing between full screen games. It takes a full 5 seconds to alt tab and about 11 seconds to turn on/off. I did find out that if you remove the start up logo, it'll cut the start up time down to 7 seconds. This still seems pretty inferior for a $549 monitor when my 12 year old BenQ monitor can alt tab nearly instantly and turn on in about 3 seconds. I've also had random issues where the screen flickers for about 60 minutes every month or so, it seems like a low quality product.
I have one of these and have never had any issues with the monitor. Did with software. In my case the MSI system software messed things up badly. Removing that fixed a couple of issues - weird screen artifacts, green hue.
Your monitor is faulty. Contact HP for a repair or replacement if it is still under warranty.
This or the Lenovo r27qe?
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-leg…
Both are about the same price but Lenovo has hdmi 2.1
Arguably I think the Lenovo r27qe is better on paper and considering the recent deals for the HP having the inferior BOE panels the Lenovo might be a better bet.
That's just it's better on paper.
But the real life performance shows that HP is the clear winner.
Lenovo being Chinese will most likely also have BOE and other Chinese panels.
Anyone can recommend a monitor similar to this but has usb c video input as well? I’m ok with pre owned
I had one 2-3 years ago in an overseas visiting office and it had that - but I don’t recall what model or brand it was.
Gigabyte M27QA 27" QHD - Currently $299 at Centrecom and other computer stores. Was it USB C (DP Alt mode) you were looking for perhaps?
Thanks! This is a great suggestion but it probably wasn’t the same one.
Was it USB C (DP Alt mode)
I just googled this to find out what it means.
Likely yes. It allowed me to plug and play to the monitor using usb c to usb c cable for display on an external monitor
You can also get USB-C to DisplayPort cables that work fine for audio and video, but they don’t provide power so it might not be exactly what you’re looking for.
Great reviews on that one but yeah. Just look for usb c alt mode and if you want to charge it without needing separate power, make sure it has power delivery and enough wattage to power the laptop (65w is good), unless youre okay to plug power separately.
decent monitor, love mine
Monitor is ok, bit yellow compared to my Dell.
The software is horribly bloated tho. Bundled way too much to the simple functionality of changing brightness.
instant tax write off ?
genuinely what's this tax write off stuff
If you use something exclusively, 100% for work (say, home office use) and it costs up to $300, you can claim it as an instant tax deduction this year. For almost any item. Chair, table, monitor, etc. You can do it for multiple items/things too (there are some rules around this). But you could get, say, a monitor, chair, and printer and claim them all. This isn't free money, it just reduces your taxable income…..it's basically telling the tax office "hey, I earned this much, but I spent this much on something I need for my job, so lets take that off what you think my salary is, and tax/bill me on that lower salary".
If you're in the top tax bracket of 45%, that means you get about 45% back. So you could reduce your tax bill by $135. You still have to pay the full $300 up front, but you'd get $135 back at the end of the year.
Keep in mind though, if you earn $45,001–$120,000, the tax rates only ~30%. So you'd only get about 30% back. You can see brackets here https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/tax-rates-austral…
So it's not free money, but it's a decent discount. You can see how an EOFY sale of, say, 40% off + another 30% tax rebate is a damn good deal.
More information here : https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/income-deduc…
If you're going to use it for half work from home, half personal gaming, the tax office expects you to only declare half the value. So $150.
There's a lot of ways this might apply. Lets say that instant limit is $300, but you wanted a $600 monitor. And you used it for half work, half gaming. You could claim the $300 immediately, as it's right on the limit.
Now if the claimable portion is over $300, there's different rules. You have deduct the decline in it's value over many years (~4 years, for monitors). So you still get it back, but it takes much longer. You can however claim a lot more money back over time this way.
Say you wanted a $5000 5090 graphics card because you're a game designer. You can't claim that $300, and you might be able to claim nothing this year, but you could claim a $1000 "depreciation" next year, $1000 the year after….etc, until you've claimed the full $5000. Small businesses can access a higher instant write off limit, up to $20,000, per asset. But if you didn't actually earn enough money to pay that $20,000 in tax, you don't get free money back, lol.
I, for instance, am genuinely writing off a $299 Gigabyte monitor from Scorptec. I'm buying it tomorrow. It's going in my dedicated office room, and won't be used for anything other than meetings needing privacy when I'm working from home, using the company laptop, and not on my main PC. I'm in the top income bracket, so I'll get $135 of it back in tax. Total cost will actually be $165. That monitor normally retails at $360, but it's on EOFY special. So I'll save about 50% on retail.
Ah well I'm like in the under $18k a year bracket so it won't do anything for me aye if I have an ABN sole trader business.
But i see what you mean by it only helps with reducing your taxable income. I claimed some work boots in my overdue tax return that i did a week or two ago and It didn't change my tax refund at all which was only some money that was taxed from when I earnt a lot in a week.
@AeymothSky: That gets complicated. I can't remember if you have some other day job, if your sole trader income is all lumped together, or if you have to earn enough from the "sole trader" side to claim against the tax that side generates.
That said if you earn under $18k a year, total, then yeah. You haven't paid any tax, so you've got no bill to deduct against, do ya :D
It is possible to carry forward business losses but it's not worth paying an accountant to look at that until you're earning more, at which point you wont care about chasing the $135 benefit from years back.
@Ademos: yeah
i don't have any job or business going on right now
but if my buisness takes off to the point I'm earning over $18k a year it would be nice to look into claiming things i purchase to use in the business for business purposes.
That was very detailed. Thanks.
re. "Lets say that instant limit is $300, but you wanted a $600 monitor. And you used it for half work, half gaming. You could claim the $300 immediately, as it's right on the limit."
I thought it'd only apply if you paid only 50% of $600 as per Test 1 – asset costs $300 or less.
@PvsNP: It doesn't go buy retail value, it boes buy what you paid and then the percentage "work vs personal" calculation.
So if you only pay $300 on something, new, it qualifies.
If you pay $600, and say it's 50/50 work/personal, it qualifies. But you can only claim the $300.
If you pay $600, and deduct over several years, you can claim all $600. But you have to wait a bit.
Not for gaming, but looking for a reasonable quality 27" + monitor to plug into a mac mini. I'm assuming this would do the trick?
Anything better worth considering under $300?
Thoughts on the HP vs. this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/907602 ??
The pixels per inch will be lower on 27 inch.
Personally I'd always go 27in 1440p.
I have not used a 31.5in 1440p monitor before so I can't comment.
But you'll generally find thing look better 27in qhd. So unless you really need a bigger physical screen, 27in is good.
Also MacOS Scaling is weird so keep that in mind.
Thanks. Overall leaning towards this deal, but will see if anything better pops up in the next few days.
Cast ye eyes on this. Might even be a single usb-c cord for your mac mini, depending on it's year.
https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/27-33-inch/1137…
And would you look at that, on EOFY special just under the $300 writeoff (if you dont use a credit card).
HP Omen 34c WQHD 34" ultrawide also on special again. Just under $400 with discount code:
Damn I just bought this for $301 a few days ago
The coupon HPJN20 is working again
27q g2 is $40 more , not sure worth it or not, I think if you play ps5/XSX, might have some advantage over 27q
