          • @churningNburning: Sent PM to Manyo @120d asking where is the MC. Got a quick response, investigated, was just delayed a week.

At least we are now notified by Econnex that MC has been sent.

When Econnex had Woolies send gift cards, we weren't notified. (Recommended to Econnex to do that.)
We just received an email from Woolies - which was easily lost or binned. Gift cards were lost. There were lots of complaints & negs for future Econnex Deals!

    • never got the vouchers from the last deal

Last Deal was days ago!! What date & Deal?

So you don't forget, set a Reminder in Deal to check for MC in 3 months

Search emails for Econnex around 120d after switch.
Need to activate MC within 1 month of email!!!

  • Careful with NBN signups if coming from one of the retailers that requires 30 days' notice before transferring.

I tried to sign up with a date ~30 days in the future when transferring away from Exetel to Superloop using Econnex back in February. They instead ported me over the next day. Said "sorry whoops you're outta luck there bud, we can give you $25"… for your $75 in lost internet service fees. Asked for more and they promised a $50 Woolies voucher in 90-120 days. It has since been nearly 140 days with nothing.

So uh, maybe more trouble than they are worth.

    • +3

Yeah, you gotta be real careful with the internet plans. There's a lot to trip you up. I usually go 3 days early, just to be safe.

Take for instance Superloop: You need to give them 30 days notice before you leave
No problem you say. I'll just go on the website and click request to cancel on the last day of the first month, so that I only stay for two months

Except you can't. It has to be by phone call. But more to the point, econnex won't pay you if there's a pending cancellation at the 45 day mark. And superloop doesn't do prorata billing. So really, the minimum term with superloop is 3 months. Which isn't a bad deal tbh, but it's a pain to have to be so on-the-ball during signup.

I'm loving the OVO plan I switched to at the start of this month.

Really hammering the free 11-2pm slot. That alone is worth $100 to me

  • Does Swoop need notice for NBN. I’m looking to move to a new provider but don’t want to waste a month credit.

    • +1

This is what makes the NBN switch awkward sometimes. You can plan the new NBN for a later date so you won't cop a whole month. But defs check Swoops FAQ's or your contract for clarification. Someone may have not needed 30 days in the past and they may have updated their terms and conditions.

    • +1

I moved from Swoop recently and you need to let them know before the start of your billing cycle, make sure you call them to disconnect at least 2 business days before your new billing cycle starts to be safe.

      • +1

I gave them a call and they said they would refund the remaining amount of credit on request as it is payment in advance.

  • 5 months waiting still no gift card

I just pm Manyo rep to check

How does the 45 days timing work with gas? My last meter read was in May so I understand if I were to switch, this will only happen after the next read, i.e. August. Does the 45 days only start then despite me signing up in June?

    • I think the 45 days started in Aug after the meter is read.

  • Which provider does not do a credit check? I tried to sign up with Engie and Energy Australia via Econnex but got declined despite having a good credit score.

  • What happens to any energy bill rebate credit? Do you get that as a cheque in the mail from the current provider?

    • Bill credit from a retailer (eg sign up credit) is lost on leaving. See retailers T&C.

Govt rebate is your money - should be refunded to your bank account etc where Direct Debit payment was set up. May have to request.

      Received a $1150 refund this year from Origin when switched ($1000 QLD & 2 x $75 Fed Govt rebates)💰
Origin took ages to refund after emails. PowerShop sent $50 refund immediately👍

      • Great thank you!

  • Can anyone confirm whether Superloop do a credit check?

  • Has anybody ever requested an electricity connection for a future date ? I think only nbn is possible through these deals but anybody did something different ?

    • These Deals have been frequent.

  • How long do you have to wait before taking up another offer from this company? I switched back in March and got $150. Can I apply again?

    • Normally you count the number of days after you got connected to the service provider, and to your other question you can surely apply as many times as possible .

Just make sure to do it from the link in the post as many times people directly login to econnex website and the promo isnt tagged to the connection requested and later have troubles.

  • Do i have to contact the current gas provider to disconnect? Or will the new provider do that? Staying in same property.

    • +2

You are only changing who bills you. There is no disconnection needed

  • Isn't it better to use the compare GOV tool to get the best deal for your money per year, instead of going with this marketing campaign? using the GOV tool I get $1050 per year, using Econnex I get $1247

    $1247 -$175(gift card) = $1,072

Which means that this will make sense if you get the gift card and back to the cheaper one? Also from the comments here, to get your hands on the gift card, sounds like a pain, with many customers never getting a gift card.

    • You need to look at the estimated annual use (kwh / year) for each compare service and make sure they align to the same yearly kWh.

For example I tried compare energy vic and it asks a bunch of questions like how many people, what method of heating and cooling is used, to determine your annual estimated kWh. However I cannot find what the estimated usage is in kWh.

Econnex only asks for postcode and estimates based on 10.96 kWh daily usage = 4000 kWh for 365 days.

      • Yes, electricity consumption is different for everyone.
Comparison sites assume a set & constant amount of use, but thats rarely anyone's usage.

Good to do your own calculations based on your consumption & published rates (e.g. on Econnex) Doesn't need to be precise.

        Basically…
If you use a lot - kwh rate is most important.
If you use little, your main cost can be the Daily Supply Charge.
If you do nothing else - compare those.

Know when you use the most
Time Of Day - often big at night
Months of year for heating & cooling.

And what consumes most in your house (heating aircon, fridge, etc).
Different offers suit some, even with same consumption.

Then there's Time Of Use charges - Demand charge added just when you want to relax, cook, entertain… It costs you more!

And Solar FIT! Another variable in the calculations.

No comparison sites can't take into account all those variables. Only you know your usage.

BUT, to get most out of these Deals, switch frequently to current best offer (every 45+d)😊

Just switched from Origin Electricity to Momentum.
Origin recently hiked the rates so I could be saving 55 bucks if the next bill's the same as the last one
Momentum said they'd give a one-off $50 discount on my first bill
Then there's the gift card. It's the small things in life, you know :p

    • I also done this. but I only received a reference number through Econnex.
have you already received the email or phone call to Momentum?

  • +2

The $150 electricity credit for 30 days connection is still valid at Econnex per this long running deal
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902931

  • Anybody done this on a new connection? eg moving house.

  • @INFIDEL Do you go just with the Econnex deals or are there any times when you go with just the Energy company bill credit promotions (without free Econnex MC gift card)? I've been on an Engie Black Friday deal recently. The credit have now been used up and they are hiking their rates so I'm going to start taking up these Econnex deals and see how things go.

    • +1

No, but mainly Econnex over years.

      Never had a problem.
My main gripe with Econnex was poor communication & hard to understand Deals.
I've negged a Deal long ago based on that & sent PMs suggesting improvement.
      Econnex are much better now!

Its which ever gives me the most benefit - like a good Ozbargainer.

When there were no better Deals…
Signed up through Woolies Rewards, for 25000pt ($125cr). Origin directly in Deal here for $200 sign up Bill Credit & "friends" discounted rates. And another comparison site here, I think for $200.

All the electricity retailers will be hiking prices!
So there are lots of offers to get people to sign up NOW! They hope we'll stay & pay more😜

I signed up to similar Econnex Deal over a week ago for $175 MC. That gives me 15d in June at old rates, then likely higher rate for 30d. Will then consider offers to switch

      • Thanks for your help.

How long does it take for the Energy retailer to contact you and transfer you over after the Econnex sign up? I signed up last night to Powershop through Econnex. I received an email straight away from Exonnex and now waiting for the next step. I have a smart meter so I would expect the change over should not take too long to happen.

        • +1

Also have a smart meter - installed free by Powershop years ago.

          PowerShop are usually prompt.
A few days to a week

I switched to Alinta late on 15/6
          Confirmation email from Econnex 15/6
          Alinta Welcome email on 20/6
          Alinta Connected email 22/6
          Will leave in about 45d

  • Just checking, even though provider does not say any one-off bonus, Econnex will send the gift card as long as I stay with that provider for 45 days. Is my understanding correct? Thank you.

    • Yes.
Econnex is paid to refer you to the retailer. After they are paid, we get the $MC. Its not from the retailer. Just like with other cashback sites.

Different retailers are available in different areas (based on your postcode). They may also offer Bill Credits to help pay your bill.

  • Silly question. Can I switch to same provider as currently I am through Econnex?

    • Wanting a MC for not switching in a switching Deal… is a silly question😂

If you've been with current retailer (switched through Econnex) the min period (45d now) - you can change to ANOTHER retailer. Then back after 45d.

What you suggested is NOT a switch of retailer!
Econnex won't be paid a referral for a new customer, so you won't receive the MC!

    • I believe you can as long as you sign up to a plan that is different to your current plan.
I did it last year with Engie.
Sign up for Engie NRMA plan via Econnex for $300 credit and $200 MC then after 4 months sign up for Engie Non-NRMA plan via Econnex for $200 credit and $200 MC. Received both signup credit and MC.
      YMMV, ask Econnex to confirm.

      • Good idea JoS!
But will it work? Is it considered switching??

Only works if multiple plans are offered by same retailer. (Limited to Engie for me.)

And if retailer considers you a new customer - on a different plan??

Risky… Its up to decision by the retailer. And how their accounts system operates.
Possibly won't be confirmed until Econnex fails to receive their referral $, then MC doesn't arrive in 120d!!

To late in this Deal to PM Rep Manyo to confirm. But even Econnex may not know! It's up to the retailer.

Was with Engie NRMA plan via Econnex for Bill Credit. But didn't see those attractive Bill Credits when switched on 15/6. Offers may differ by location.

        Will consider in another switch.

        • As I said, I did it last year when they had $300/$200 signup credit.

Econnex plan details for Engie states

For new customers, energy plan will start once you transfer to ENGIE.
For existing customers, the energy plan will start from sign up. (you'll still receive a cooling-off period).

The T&Cs for this promo says switching energy plan. There is no mention of switching retailer.

          • @jackofspade: As I said, it's a good idea!
Trouble is its up to retailers discretion whether we can benefit. Like you did.

Same with if same retailer provides 2 x Bill Credits in a row. Most restrict those to a genuine new customer / address, often once per year.
I've received so many new customer Bill Credits from PowerShop (with a gap in between), but comment recently that they've stopped that.

Circumstances can quickly change (if many do this unexpectedly). Or retailer decides it's not what they intended.
Terms can be easily redefined! (What is a "Plan"?) Switches can be refused by retailer.

The retailer is in charge, not Econnex & it's T&C!
If retailer withholds payment to Econnex, there's not much can be done. We don't receive MC.

Supported well known past CR Rep to resolve a crisis when a SIM Deal failed long ago. Was involved from before Deal posted. All seemed nailed down & fine. It was a disaster! Despite strict T&C.

Retailer refused to pay CR. Would have been bad for reputation of CR & their new Rep…
CR paid out by introducing the CR guarantee. It was good for PR & business.

But wouldn't expect the same from Econnex.

  • As always with these deals it pays to look at the charges which against our current plan looks very high.

    Offer for electricity:
    - Supply Charge: offer is 82.5c/day vs our current $1.089c/day
    - Peak Usage: offer is 25.74c/kWh vs our current 18.59c/kWh

    Offer for gas:
    - Supply Charge: offer is 116.71c/day vs our current 72c/day
    - Peak Usage: offer is 5.1634c/Mj vs our current 2.69c/MJ

    • This Deal doesn't offer the cheapest energy!
Its tempting us to switch for a payout💰

It depends if you want to keep bills low in the long term. In that case find the cheapest offer that suits you - here or more likely elsewhere.

But many of us are churning to make a profit💰
In which case the $MC + retailer Bill Credits are more important. We won't be sticking around😉
Effectively haven't paid for electricity for years!

  • Just did switch, see if econnex will send GC
