Been looking for a good Windows RT tablet for better integration with my network at home, which is predominantly Windows + needed a keyboard dock for general internet use and typing.

This is a pretty decent price - includes the keyboard dock, haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else, much cheaper than the 32GB Surface + Type Cover. (Also cheaper than standalone Surface and iPad).

Have a good day!

  • good deal. This combo was selling on sale at Office Depot for $599 (+ taxes) late last month.

I wouldn't be surprised if it falls further yet as every indication is that Windows RT is simply not selling.

  • Comes up as $499 + $58 for me? (US $ I assume)

    • yep, change the currency to AUD

Why wouldn't you just buy a laptop with those requirements?

    • many people just want the tablet for couch surfing, which is exactly what i use mine for

"Why do people like things I don't?"

    • I already have a laptop, as well as a desktop - each device has a different use. Generally my desktop is what I use when I'm at my desk, my laptop is what I use when on the road when needing to do work, but for media consumption - i.e. watching movies, reading + general light web surfing a tablet is easier.

      • I agree that tablets are easier for what you describe, so why would you want to constrain your tablet choice by making it do laptop like tasks as well?

        • In what way is it constrained? When used as a tablet it's a great tablet; if you want to do more you can dock it and use it like a PC.

For anyone who doesn't need a powerful PC (or needs a basic PC on the move) Windows RT is a great option.

  • isn't the resolution a bit low for tablets this price?
(serious question. i haven't looked recently)

    • This is rather "standard" for the 1st wave of windows 8 RT tablet

  • I thought all Windows Tabs, needed a USB port- says in the specs this one doesnt? ??

    • It has two USB ports… One that requires use of a converter that comes with the device (power lead) and one that is an actual USB port on the keyboard.

  • I dont know if its better than the surface (I love the Surface we have) but this has a 8mp camera but no USB port…

    • The VivoTab RT has GPS and NFC. There are two USB ports on the device, one accessible via a converter and the other is a port on the keyboard. Personal preference would suggest VivoTab RT over the Surface due to the keyboard dock, but the Surface is a really nice device if the physical keyboard isn't a concern.

FWIW I have one of these AND a Surface.

The Surface has a much better screen (same resolution, but much better quality).

The Vivo tablet (when undocked from the keyboard) is incredibly thin and light (the thinnest and lightest tablet I've ever seen/held, including iPad 2), whereas the Surface is a bit more solid and heavy.

The Asus has an extra battery in the keyboard, but I prefer the form factor of the Surface with a keyboard cover (and the Surface keyboard is actually easier to type on for me).
