Velocity are running a promo where you can get 20% to 40% off the purchase price of points, depending on the number you purchase.
As usually is the case, buying points is usually poor value and you should only consider it if you are just short of a rewards seat.

works out to be about a 40% discount off the cash fare, I believe.
buying points is poor value if you're going to redeem economy reward tickets but it can be great value if you're redeeming business reward tickets.
last year my wife & i flew MEL-DOH-MXP in business class (qatar, inc qsuite) - cost was 278,000 points + $1570aud
cash rate for the same day this year (late august) is currently ~$15,000
obviously fares fluctuate as does reward seat availability so YMMV but buying points is not the dumbest idea if you're shopping for the premium cabins.
We did similar last year Melbourne to Paris on Qatar Qsuite. It was very nice. The real problem is trying to get two business class seats on the same flight.
We ended up just short of the necessary points so we blew $68 dollars buying the extra points. We considered trying to get points with wine purchase or at the Supermarket but we didn’t want to risk losing the seats.
Costs 82,000 points to fly from Syd-Tokyo on Business ANA each way. So 164,000 return.
170,000 points cost $2386
Which is a very good price for business to Japan.
just have to factor in being able to score 1 of the 1 or 2 reward J seats for the flight.
1.4c per velocity point (on purchase of 250K points) is not bad.
250k Velocity Points for $3501 = 161290 KrisFlyer points. 162k KrisFlyer points is enough to fly two people return in business class from Perth to South East Asia which would normally cost much more than $3501.
