I have a old camera that is powered by a mini USB cable wired to the interior fuse box using a fuse tap (on a 5A fuse). I am lazy and don't want to re-wire it. Could I get away with getting a mini usb-a to usb-c adapter?

    • +2

Yeh, it just needs it's 5V and not a huge current draw so don't see why it would be a problem.

Thinking of doing the same to replace an old A119 with the dodgy GPS module connector.

A119 mini 2 installed using a mini-USB to USB-C adapter from AliExpress and it works a treat. Very easy install. Didn't read properly and just stuck the 3M tape directly to the windshield then found out later that I could have used the electrostatic sticker to make it easier to remove if I sell the car. Oh well, next car I will use the electrostatic sticker.

        • Top entry hey? Did you use a right angle adapter?

Was looking and they were all non Choice items and were going to take a month to arrive. Just had a look again after your comment and one popped up in the "More to love" section..

Grabbed a straight one too anyway.

          • @bamzero: I used a straight one. Depends where you place the camera if you need a right angle or not. The straight one sticks a fair way out. https://ibb.co/931PLXyS.

I got my straight one on choice https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005479373498.html. Bundled it with some other stuff to avoid postage. Did not appear on bundle deals unfortunately.

            • @flagger: Yeh, just had another look and do have a lot more room than I remembered on one car (this is the first rev A119 one with unreliable GPS module connection so have been using the dashcam direct on the side so dont randomly lose power to both) but other is high mounted so right angle for that one when I replace it.

The mini to C not too common on there, but did manage to get a CPL filter in the Bundle deals for about US$4.50.

Hadn't thought about removing the old one from that back overlay, but guessing will be ok. Nothing a bit of contact cleaner can't handle…

Thanks, I was able to collect store discount. A$111 delivered.

  • Mine fell apart after it fell off my windshield. The plastic legs on the housing snapped
    Otherwise video quality is good

    • Did you use the static sheet, or stick it straight to the window?

      • Stuck with the provided 3M VHA, and then restuck later with 3M VHA bought directly from Viofo.
It does fall off on hot days.

Interesting.. I have the A119 V3 (in fact, 3 of them) and haven't had one fall off yet using the provided 3M VHA

    • The clips on the GPS module?

  • Worth getting the CPL filter?

    • Perhaps if you are out in the sun all the time

  • Do these last longer in Aussie conditions than they used to.. always seem popular but I have had 2 die within 12 to 18 months.

  • There is a "store welcome offer" for US$5 off US$20 order that you can clip on the product page, valid from Jun 15, 16:59 AEST to Jul 1, 16:59 AEST. The coupon code looks unique to the account.

US$68.61 delivered after applying welcome offer.

    • Any tax applied at the end? Pretty good price for a119 mini

      • US$68.61 is the GST-inclusive delivered price. Less if you have AE Coins.

        • great! thx for letting know

    • Has the price gone up? I am getting USD 81 delievered after welcome offer + 10$ ali coupon. The price is showing as USD 89.27

      • All I can say is click Go to Deal and try again. I got two different prices with the same product option (Package A, no SD Card) in two browser tabs.

First click: US$80.69 after "store welcome offer" and a coupon OZAU20 (the coupon is new, wasn't eligible before).
Second click: US$64.61 after "store welcome offer" and a different coupon AUEF06 (the coupon is new, wasn't eligible before).

        • I tried app , incognito etc.. no luck. keep getting US $89.27. I think they have jacked up the price.

        • This worked, thank you. I clicked through a few times, played with the codes, set the currency to USD and it came through at 59 / 90 AUD and TCB at $9.67 approx 3.30pm and has already shipped.

  • Is there any improvements with the Mini 2 over standard Mini model?

    • +1

      Newer sensor

  • looks like the price went up

  • Bugger. Had it in my cart, at checkout stage with old price. Actually when I loaded the product page, the prices were higher already (thought was some cashback clickthrough trickery) but then I selected another of the options and then back to base model and cheaper price returned.

Paid with Paypal, the PP payment screen said US$49 odd (had shopping credit from the team cashback scheme).
Get the payment receipt from PP and it says you have paid US$74 :(

Oh well. Cancelled order, refund issued and luckily my shopping credit refunded too.

    OMG missed out again 😭

    • Same.
Only just realised that subscription notifications are web only by default, not email. Waaah.

Back. Unfortunately coupons still wont stack, no store coupon this time and cashback not as high atm but it's at OPs price.

      • Thanks!
Ordered with CPL and added a few other things to the cart, used code AUCD10 for USD$10 off.
