Saw this at Expedia's current Global Flight Sale. Sydney to Singapore return from $394 tax included. Offer expires 25 Jan for bookings this year. Only selected dates though. Not available in other departing cities either.

Might be a nicer deal if you managed to score $0 AirAsia flight between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

  • Just in case anyone's wondering about Scoot, I flew to Singapore with them last week and they are one of the better budget airlines I have used. Plane was new, staff very friendly and accommodating.

    • Are the planes actually new?

I thought they were former singapore airlines planes.

      • +1

As announced on 1 November 2011, Scoot's fleet is expected to consist of four Boeing 777-200ERs (operated as 777-200s) with plans in place to have 14 aircraft by 2016.[15] As of August 2012, it has 4 Boeing 777-200ERs. Its initial fleet was acquired from its parent airline and reconfigured with a new seating layout and modified engines.

      • Yea they are refurbished SIA planes

      • Yeah they are just refurbished former Singapore planes. Some of Singapore's first 777s average age of the planes is 15 years.

        http://www.planespotters.net/Airline/Scoot#AirlineFleetList

    • Great deal given taxes are included! $200 each way, damn I spend more then that on a big night out… well not really I am cheap but I wish I did. Seems they have some hotel sale as well, Time to browse!

  • I am considering this but as a first time flyer, would this be a bit to much? 8 hours flight time.

    • I took my 12 year old sister on a quick run to Melbourne first, before a flight to Malaysia.

With that said, you shouldn't have an issue on an 8 hour flight. All you need to do is sleep and read, and it's over.

    • You should be alright. The first hour goes settling in while the plane is reaching altitude. last hour is the same while they clear up etc.
IF you are able to read or sleep, it will be a breeze. Not sure if they have on board entertainment (tv etc).

    • Don't worry about the flight time. Bring iPad/iphone to keep entertain yourself and try to sleep. Don't forget to bring noise-cancelling headphone if possible. 8 hours flight time will be a breeze.

    • +7

Think of it this way: if you ever want to go to Singapore, there's no faster way to get there.

    • +2

First time flyer? You must do it and then tell us about your experience.

Should be fine, just think of a bus coach with some steep hills at the start and finish.

Unless you've got some anxiety (fear of planes) or something, you'll do it in your sleep. :)

    • My tips for first time fliers would be a good pair of noise cancelling headphones. The good ones really cut the drone of the engines but none will filter out the screams of babies. It's a lottery whether you get a screaming baby on your flight.

I would also suggest going easy on alcohol. It really hits you fast as the cabin is pressurised to 8,000 feet.

Bring a book. In flight entertainment is great but I've had occasions where it wouldn't work.

Be amazed by how small economy class seating is.

Don't worry about all the noises and bumps you'll experience on the plane. It's all normal. You'll be flying on a Boeing 777, but if you ever get on a shorter flight on an Airbus A320 beware of the barking dog in the cargo hold. He's almost always there :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nU3T4_cZZM

You'll enjoy your first 8 hour flight. If however it feels like a bit much, remember that Qantas flies more than 16 hours non stop between Sydney and Austin Texas :-)

      • The time flys, er that's not a pun. Do it. Singapore is awesome. We go frequently. Let me know if you do and ill tell you what to do whilst there.

  • I think you can directly go to flyscoot.com to book. I tried a few dates and scored even lower price than this.

    • If you try the same dates on expedia you can get the same price of 378
But better to buy from tickets from Scoot itself as adding luggage and meals during ticket purchase is easier. Orelse we have to pay expedia fees for any change etc.

  • +9

Don't forget Jetstar can beat the price by 10%, and remove all booking fees.

  • +1

This seems more a promotion for "Expedia's current Global Flight Sale".

Booking with Scoot directly is the same price for the same dates. So there is no deal.

  • Great deal, particularly if you scored the earlier deal with Saudia Airlines:

  • +1

To be honest I got a ticket to Singapore for $173~ AUD one way and the return leg is usually cheaper. I am pretty sure you could get it for less than this price when scoot do their sale fares.

  • I traveled with scooot in Aug12 arount $270 return with 20kg.

  • can't find anything cheaper than $500 return between june/august. It is not even a sale with scoot, I am going to wait in case they have a sale.

  • Wish there were good deals like this from adelaide!!

  • +2

    Sorry no deal for me.

I was on Scoot last night … I got $350 SYD/SIN Return (no luggage though)

    • +2

yeah agree .. its kindda normal rate through flyscoot.com.
$400 is still cheap, but scoot special is when they do crazy $200 return.

  • +1

Scoot is fine (although the food is dire).
The biggest downside is the Singapore-Sydney flights leave at 2am.

  • +2

I flew Scoot last year for the same price booking directly though Scoot (as others have said).

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE LOTS OF WATER

Last time I flew the bubbler was broken (and next to toilet ewww) so had to order 250mL bottles of Evian at $4 a pop.

    • +1

How can you get water pass the custom….

      • +1

There are drink machines between customs and boarding at many airports including Sydney.

      • +1

empty bottles, then before boarding there will be bubblers (Syd Airport). Just fill em' up : )

        • +2

Boarding a Scoot flight out of Changi for Sydney the screening was at the gate, and no liquids allowed. No place to refill a drink bottle after the gate x-ray.

        • Most of the gates i've been through at changi have bubblers near the hangar entrance. Just bring an empty bottle.

    • +4

      thanks Max,

but pretty sure I would have gotten 250ml bottles of Evian for free if the bubbler was broken on the plane. as an ozbargainer I know my rights (and my freebies), you can always legally demand free tap water on planes, bars, restaurants etc. in australia

most often they give the water to you in those airplane paper cups

      • +4

why would anyone neg this comment. he's stating a fact. you can request a cup of water, budget airlines just dont like to make this fact known. Seriously can ppl leave the negs to rude statements? He's just saying that he wouldve goten free water, not that the other guy is a douche or anything.

  • I had email from webjet for scoot - SYD - SIN between dates 01 Feb to 20Oct 2013 for $378

    http://www.webjet.com.au/flights/specials/#economy_special_1…

I am sure you can get cheaper than expedia by going directly to scoot..

    • .

    • +1

And problem is Webjet charge fee's through the nose, at least Expedia have no booking fee's

  • +3

Like many others, some dates are actually cheaper from Scoot's webby.

    • I haven't seen any third party site that actually offers cheaper fares for low cost carriers such as Scoot or AirAsia when you compare directly with them

  • ozbargain holiday?

  • Have a look at this http://mobile.theverge.com/2012/12/28/3809328/one-small-hote…
Expedia is one of the last sites I will book with. Cut out the middle man and just book directly with the airline.

  • Cut The Middle man guys, Don't we love that on ozbargain.
    Go direct.

I'd revoke my neg if the's a special date that's available through Exepedia and not through Scoot.

but honestly Singapore return from $394 is a decent deal..

  • well, $15 less pp compared to booking direct.. not really that great of a discount..

    • Still that gets you a beer or two on-board!

  • stil prefer airasia's $200 return when on special

  • +1

Needed this for melb > Singapore for the GP in sep :(

  • I flight with scoot last year Jun to Singapore, the female Flight Attendants are petty.

I'm going to fly with Scoot again during Easter Break.

2 person return including booking fees cost me $610.32 - $305 each person

on the way to Singapore no check in luggage.

will going to buy a suitcase (same brand cost cheaper) in Malaysia, therefore will we bought the 15KG each person on our way back.

    • +1

The suitcase will weigh 4 Kgs .. you should have bought 25 Kgs.. If you plan to shop.

  • +1

I'm in singapore right now. I flew with scoot paid $519 rt no luggage. ex Sydney

IMO, that is an excellent price because of nsw school holidays in January.

Flight was good, more leg room than I expected.

Plane delayed half an hour but made up for the delay during the flight.

Bought tiger beer with $S dollars on board (I think they take aus cash too; as well as credit card (I think $10 min)).

My $405 (5x$90 dick smith gift cards less TRS) Ipad 4 kept me sane.

  • Great deal in my opinion. Also it is good to note that Expedia has cash back on Starthere.com.au so get a bit more back. Plus I kind of like the fact that if something goes wrong there is one more person I can talk to (Expedia) rather then just dealing with a low budget airline who disappear when anything happens (I'm look at you tiger!!).

    • why people negged you?

      • Not sure, but still think it is good value. Probably easier to neg then to disagree in writing. Anyway, I've booked and am happy with the price. Plus Expedia didn't charge any fees. They got rid of fees a few years back. Thanks Op!

  • Expedia is good for comparing prices with other airlines, all in one page (instead of opening 10 tabs of 10 airlines to compare) but I wouldn't use expedia for booking judging from the stories and fees. I prefer direct with the airlines, after choosing what you want to go with. Great deal btw.

  • Was going to book this book departure time and arrival times arent ideal. Sydney Singapore
Flight times are 12pm and 2am.

    • Well the 12pm syd-sing is pretty good actually; gets you in at a real good time for hotels.

However, the 2.10am sing-syd is bad (It seems always to leave late); and in particular my flight early monday morning didn't leave until 5.39am. (no-one was really complaining though; although ppl with connecting flights I imagine must have been spewing).
