Makita 18V 5.0Ah Twin Pack BL1850B-L 191C12-3 $199 Delivered @ Power Tool Specialists (Price-Beat & Trade-In $129.10 @ Bunnings)

670

I’ve just bought four 5 amp Makita LXT batteries for $258.20 which is $21.45 less than Bunning’s current price of $279.65 for two 5 amp
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/233918/122556/bunnings…

Go in one store and get them to price beat one twin pack by 10%
https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18v-5-0ah-battery-twin-pa…

Once they have agreed to do the price match, pull out of your bag or pocket ANY old 18 volt battery and they will knock another $50 off bring the price down to $129.10
https://trade.bunnings.com.au/campaign/battery-offer

Repeat the process at the next store that has them in stock or until you run out of old 18v batteries.

I printed off the Power Tools Specialist’s product page and also showed them the PTS webpage as they wanted to check if delivery was free.
I also printed off the Bunnings battery trade-in webpage as it included all their T&C’s for that offer.

They may pull their face when you show them the $50 trade-in but I said to them nowhere in the terms does is say you can’t do both a price match and the $50 trade-in together, nor does it stipulate it has to be an old Makita battery; I took in some really old dead Aldi WorkZone ones which they asked me to drop into the battery recycle bin by the entrance on my way out.

    Thanks OP.

    Fk jobsite thieves.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for Bunnings staff doing price matches.
You can use the same method to get this battery for $99.

    • How? The $50 off only work on twin packs.

      • Sorry, I didn't know the $50 off only applies to the twin pack.

      • +1

Even with price beat though, $135 for this battery is a cracker deal

  • +1

I'll buy some Makita batteries tomorrow even though I don't own any Makita tools.

    • +1

      Is that you JV?

    • +4

Your manager: Focus on your own job. Mind your own business, that's not your responsibility.

    • +2

How is this a loophole? It's a legitimate price beat request.

      • Hey Nitroll, as bio says there's no loophole, it's taking Bunnings up on their offers.
Just remember it is Bunnings that continually boast about their 10% price beat and it's Bunnings who are "…committed to sustainability…." that are offering $50 for a crappy old battery. They make plenty of profit so taking a little hit for one day won't hurt them and anyway they soon drastically drop some prices to match Aldi's specials whenever it suits them.

        • you guys take shit too seriously.. it was a joke

I bet you were that kid who burst all the balloons at the party cos no one would play with you.

works for bunnings but didn't mark himself as associated.

    • -1

Hows about you attempt to get the company to train staff to be professional & honor the T&C's … particularly the price match! … sick of being jerked around, seems like they've been encouraged to fek customers around till they give up!

  • Would this work on trading in 18v ozito batteries?

      • +1

They're the brands you can purchase if you take in an 18v battery, not the brands the old battery has to be.

    • +1

Yes, unless they change the wording of the T&C's tomorrow morning because of YKW.

    • +1

Yes, trade any 18v battery. OP traded Aldi batteries.

  • +2

A Makita battery died on me today, I think it was one of 2 of those identical looking knock offs that I bought through Ebay thinking they were real, be getting 4 new bats tomoz!

    • Bought 4 from the seller rather than risk Bunnings not having any stock & was gunna buy 2 more from Bunnings

Bunnings had no stock & this sold out quick, worked out!

  • pity my next closest store is 2 hours away, I've got a tonne of dead ryobi batteries that I could swap these for

  • +1

Thanks OP, tried this out this morning, worked like a charm. Don't forget to scan your onepass card if you have one for extra flybuys points.

  • +1

    Cheers Op, great deal!

  • Anyone know if you can stack Bunnings price beat guarantee with Wesfarmers 5% employee discount?

  • +3

If you buy 4, total at checkout above $250, you’re eligible for $50 gift card, terms here, ends today

    • +1

Argh, of only I had some old 18v batteries!

    • I hoped I'd gained my OzBargain stripes posting this deal but alas I just lost them because I missed getting the $50 gc.
I didn't know about this $250 offer damn it, or I would've had the cheek to ask the manager to go get me a second box of batteries instead of going to another store.

      • In your post you said you bought 4 for $258 you should be eligible ?

        • I did buy 4, but I went to a another store to get the last 2 as the first store didn't really want to sell me any at this price let alone 2 boxes.
Plus I'd only taken one battery in with me in store 1 just to see if they'd agree to do it at all, and thought they'd have time to work out an excuse or ring head-office if I had to trek back to the car-park to get the second duff battery.

          • +1

@No Client List: Yeah just realised what you meant, call customer service today tell them nobody told you that a spend n get promo was on & you purchased from two different stores, can they do anything about it, they’re usually pretty helpful

            • +1

@RogueWolf: Hey RogueWolf, thank you so much for your suggestion of contacting customer service, it worked!
They kindly sent the $50 Bunnings GC, no dramas.

    • Unfortunately you have to complete each purchase as a seperate transaction. I'm unsure if this is possible.

    • +1

Oh, this is gold. I got shafted when I went to Bunnings today because they only had 1 x twin pack of the 2 x 5.0A batteries but upon price match they advised that the power tool specialist was out of stock. When I checked back later tonight at 8PM, they where in stock again at the power tools specialist so went back to Bunnings and this time Bunnings had no stock left. So price matched 2 x single 6.0A batteries against the power tool specialist @ $140 each coming down to $126 each. As I got two, the total was $252 so now eligible for the e-Gift card. Well done RogueWolf.

Just went to bunnings to do this, the person before me tried aswell and they said they can't stack. The customer was a bit of a pain, being rude and disrespectful.

Then it was my go, when they told me they can't stack i respectfully told them in the T&C's that it doesn't say i cant stack. But overall i was just trying to be nice (i've worked in retail before, i know how bad customers can get). The Staff member decided to phone it in, and then i got accepted for the deal.

Happily bought my 2 sets of 2. Traded in 2 dead batteries my mate gave me.

Additionally, i noticed a poster on the way out, if you spend over $250 you can get an e-gift card. Found the site here, make sure you do it today!

  • +1

Worked at cannon hill qld. Manager was called to check that they stack but he confirmed without hesitation.

    Great deal thanks OP!

    • Perhaps that manager should train all the other useless managers.

Or Bunnings needs to retrain their managers

  • The shop in melb is oos, my local bunnings called them so wouldnt match it.

    • Online, they're still taking orders… .

      • you can only get the $50 battery trade-in when you take a battery in store according to the T&C's.

  • This is slightly unrelated, but there are quite a few Makita tools ( with same Bunnings models number match) on sale @ power tool specialists to get the price beat also 😁

  • Rydalmere doesn’t allow ….

  • You mean the wouldn’t price beat?

  • Artarmon doesn't allow trading in anything other than the brands mentioned

  • Just went to Dandenong and they were a little hesitant. But. They agreed. With one condition.
They only price matched the 199 then gave me the 50 off for each of the 2 packs I got..
    So $149 each pack.
I'm still pretty happy with that.

And the 50 dollars E gift card has to be a 250 spend in one transaction.

    • Couldn't you have bought another Makita product worth $101 in the same transaction to get the $50 gift card?

      • Yes. I could have. Didn't need anything else though unfortunately.

  • +1

Had to respectfully argue with two different managers at Oxenford. They tried to maintain that you could only trade in one of the four brands (I had a Ryobi). They honoured it at the end (price match plus trade in) but very unhappy staff and spend about half an hour plus there.

    • very unhappy staff

Why? Are they personally responsible? Also why would it matter? Don't they bin the battery anyway?

      • I don’t know mate, I don’t get it either. Maybe they get flagged to upper management if they honour too many promotions at once? I’ve probably spent 20k+ over 5 years just at that Bunnings though so it was disappointing.

      • +1

you will find they likely have a recycling partner who takes the batteries to recover the valuable materials in the cells, they don't just bin the batteries. Those recycling partners can sometimes be picky about what brands they will pay for, and as there are so many different brands of batteries sometimes its easier to just say which brands they will accept rather than say which ones they won't accept.

The company i work for does a similar thing with our UPS batteries, we have a recycling partner but they only accept certain brands of UPS batteries which they will pay us for whenever it comes to time where we need to replace them. If we give them something off of their accepted brands they will either reject or give us a reduced amount.

I'm sure a big part of their reasoning for this is if it comes from a reputable brand that they accept they can trust they will recover a certain % of good recyclable material from there, whilst unknown brands will have more varied results.

        • That would make sense, but the OP said that they "asked them to drop into the battery recycle bin by the entrance on their way out", so there is no way for the recycling partner to know which batteries in the bin came from this promo.

          • @bio: I put it in the bin where I think you can put in any type of battery, so who knows what happens to them?

            • @No Client List: Yes, that's what I meant. There is no point asking for a certain brand if they all go into the same bin.

          • @bio: So what? The recycler could still be offering to pay more for certain brands….hence the promotion, just because it's put in the same bin doesn't mean the recycler doesn't sort them out upon arrival.

I.e. in my ups example, they take all the batteries we give them, but then at the end of the quarter they give us the payment which tells us how much we got for it (with their registered brands vs non registered brands)

You need to also remember that there is a difference between what the individuals at the stores are allowing compared to what the head office expects.

  • the dubbo store declined to price rematch as this was a sale item which is apparently a liquidation and against their policy…..

    • +2

How could they possibly know that? There is nothing to suggest that it is a liquidation.

      • yeah it's bs

  • Just worked for me in Kingston, TAS.
    Thanks OP

  • +1

Bunnings Newstead, Brisbane WON'T do price match 10% beat AND the $50 trade-in together. Manager said "one or the other"

    • Same at Bellambi NSW.

  • +2

I feel pretty stupid having to show the toolshop manager all the relevant information and then they just say no.
I'm not the one to haggle and argue, so left with my tail between my legs, empty handed and had to explain on my way out why I have so many used batteries in my bag 🥺🫤
would have been a sweet deal and could've also used the batteries for myself and dad, but instead finished the day feeling humiliated.

    • +1

Damn that sucks bro. It’s a good opportunity to practise being absolutely shameless in the future. I was pestering the managers for a good half hour plus before they finally gave in.

  • +1

Managed to double stack at Chatswood. Took a little leg work on the price match as they wanted to check it was in stock. Was a bit hard as it was outside of business hours, but did it in the end. Thanks OP

  • Got the twin pack batteries and another Makita tool price beat + 10% discount + $50 off from trading old 18v battery. Thank you very much op 👍

  • Tried to do it at Midland WA Bunnings. Manager flatly refused. Said they could either do a price beat or a discount for the old packs, but not both, as per their terms and conditions

  • +1

Could not show me where in the offer, it said you could not do both. I told her that other stores did it, but she said it was done incorrectly.

    https://trade.bunnings.com.au/campaign/battery-offer

Some staff are bloody idiots. Act as if they are giving from their own pockets. 😡

    • It’s infuriating. Just put the batteries in the bag lil bro.

  • Wonder if price beat will still work now that they are out of stock @power tool specialists?

    • +1

They need to be in stock at power tool specialists, otherwise Bunnings will not price match.

I ended up getting 2 x 6.0A batteries because both Bunnings and Power Tools Specialist where OoS on 2 x 5.0A pack.
Manager was very suspiouse of the Power Tools Specialists pricing and stated that they where not authorised resellers of Makita products according to the Makita Website. When I checked this at home it seems they are the biggest Makita dealer in Australia owned by Stihl group. Took me about 15 minutes to get the deal done! Plus a $50 e-Gift card coming my way because the spend was over $250!

  • +1

    Couldn't get the deal..
Initial issue on the price beat as the staff member wanted to find the special on his own phone (havnt even got to the trade in battery deal mind you). After finding it he wanted to confirm with the manager.
Manager then came in and wanted to find the same deal… But this old fellow absolutely struggled with his phone. Literally took at least 15min to coach him on how to find the deal on power tool specialists website (including at least a couple min with him claiming the store didn't exist as he was searching "power tool specials")
By the time we found it… Low and behold the special is now out of stock (about 8:40pm at this point)
I still had the deal on my phone and the other staff had found it prior but the manager still refused saying he couldn't verify it.
Didn't even get up to the battery trade in and would have just been happy with the price beat at that point 😭

    • +1

The out of stock happened to me as well when I got to the Bunnings so I thought well just try to add it to my cart on the Power tools specialist and it let you! 😆 Showed it to the staff and they then happy to get me the deal 😅

    • +3

FK ME!!! somebody at Bunnings needs to get the job of training staff to be professional!!! the amount of BS interactions I've had with them that I could make the case they ARE NOT allowing me to claim things according to their own T&C's … going back to over 20yrs ago when a store had everyone else's catalogues at a pinboard at the door so you could find something cheaper in those catalogues & get them to price match, I was after a certain chainsaw, one close enough was in a competitors catalogue, I go look at Bunnings stock, it's the exact same one, get someone to get the price match $ … guy blurts out "Different Model" and hoofs it! got LOTS more stories like that!

It's like they are told to fek the customer around in the hope they give up!

      • +1

I think the trick to get shops to honour their price-beat is to be calmy persistent and assertive; unless there is a true reason that negates the price-beat (different model, etc) I just keep repeating over and over what their T&C's say, (yes like a parrot) until they get bored or bring the manager down, when I just start the process again with him/ her. I sometimes rehearse with myself before I go to the store to think up answers to what they will probably say, and then just stay relaxed and don't fidget or look nervous, or let yourself get sidetracked if they start to bring up other topics, stick to saying the same thing over and over and over.
When customers start to back up behind you and they start tutting and sighing and it is becoming a "scene", the staff will usually back down.

  • Anybody else buy this deal from Power Tool Specialists? got my 4 from the PO Friday, charged them yesterday, one is faulty, and one flashed a fault on one charger but charged on the other.

  • Has anyone actually got the gift card? I went through the process, with 4 batts as a single transaction and have heard nothing since.

    • Hi, send a message to customer support - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16674089/redir

They still sent me a GC even though I'd bought 4 batteries in 2 separate transactions after I asked them.

    • I can confirm i just received my gift card today (after nearly a month of chasing up with bunnings customer service).
