Open a Complete Freedom Account, Spend $50 in 15 Days In-Person Using Visa Debit Card via Mobile Wallet, Get $50 CB @ St.George

Looks to match the Westpac deal. Was trying to apply for the spend $160, $40 cashback deal but St.George made it difficult and delayed me, but looks to have worked out as this seems better.

This promotion runs from 30 June 2025 to 30 September 2025. To be eligible you must:

  • Not have held a transaction account with St.George in the last 2 years (applies to both account holders for joint accounts)
  • Open a new Complete Freedom account (excludes Concession account) with a linked Visa Debit

Not a dupe as this isn't in the title of the Westpac deal (and the old deal for St George spend $160, get $40 deal should now be marked as expired).

Also this is now the same with BankSA and BoM.

I actually opened new accounts with BankSA and BoM 14 days ago, spent $160 at one of them the other day (still no cashback), and need to spend $10 more on the other (will complete today). Hoping I get $50 now on each instead of $40.

  • I opened an account in 2019. Not sure when I closed it, but hopefully it was more than 2 years ago. I just opened a new one and can't see where to add the digital card. If I wait for the physical card to arrive before adding it, then I'll be pretty close to the 15 day window.

When NOT logged into the app, there's a digital card option but it says I don't have any eligible cards.

In my experience (from a couple of months ago), you need to activate the physical debit card before you can add to a mobile wallet (whether via the St.George app or by manually adding the debit card as a new payment card to the mobile wallet).

      • 7-10 business days quotes for the card to arrive. Makes it quite hard to spend within 15 days.

        • Will likely arrive much earlier. Regional NSW here, ordered on a Monday and they arrived by Friday that week IIRC (I think they use priority letters). Also in case you weren't aware, can buy gift cards to meet the spend requirement (upcoming deal at Woolies).

          It arrived

      • Why need to add into mobile can i just wait for the physical card, and then tap at the store? Im confuse contactless means tapping? Or n3ed to go through google wallet?

        • +1

The St.George webpage linked to this deal says:

          • You need to use the Visa debit card stored on a mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet) in order to receive cashback, and

          • Any transactions using the physical debit card are ineligible.

I am fairly sure St.George still make you wait until you receive and activate the physical debit card before you can add the debit card to a mobile wallet anyway.

  • Are these cards valid for use with shopback?

    • I think so, there is a 'cashback offers from shopback' menu item under the Services tab in the app.

  • If I am currently a customer of Bank of Melbourne, do I still qualify for this St George promotion?

The St G's website was terrible, and the application process broke half way through. Now to continue my application it wants me to log in to internet banking with details they haven't given me. Ah well, I thought, try another one. I tried Bank of Melbourne - as so as I put my details in, it says 'you have an application in progress'. If I can make a phone call to sort it out easily, it might be worth $50 of inconvenience.

Yeah once you've made a login with any of StG, BOM, BankSA, it is set for all of them. From recollection it's messaged to you.

    • I've just applied BoM.
They sent me temp pw and account number by sms.
I guess it's the same for StG.

      • Thanks, I found the message lost among a lot of one time passcode messages from trying to get the application process to restart.

  • Within 15 days of opening your account, spend a total of at least $50. The purchase(s) must be in person and contactless.
this is stupid. should be Within 15 days of receiving your debit card, spend a total of at least $50. The purchase(s) must be in person and contactless.

    also:
Not have held a transaction account with St.George in the last 2 years
why didnt mention BOM or Bank of SA or westpac? i thought they are the same and we can only get one not 4x $50?

  • wow i had stg credit card, closed in 2021 and the old login still works, just 2-3 clicks all details were populated and done lol…

  • I signed up Saturday, do I get $40 for $160 spend or this… weird timing.

"We are having technical difficulties, please try again later" on every click it shows this like wtf

  • I’ve verified my ID and opened a Complete Freedom account. How do I get the Visa Debit Card?

    • Can you add the Visa debit card to your mobile wallet from the St.George mobile app? If you cannot do this, you will need to wait for the physical Visa debit card to turn up in the mail, then activate it. Once activated, you can add the debit card to your mobile wallet either via the St.George app or by adding the debit card manually as a new payment card.

Thanks WookieMonster. When I go to Services > Digital card, it says I don’t have any eligible cards. Looks like I will have to wait for the physical card to show up.

        • this has been discussed above, yes wait for physical.
but on the other thread about westpac, someone could add without waiting for physical card to arrive
          idk…

will purchase of $50 coles giftcard and a bag of chips at coles eligible?

  • Received the physical card, activated it, but can't add it to Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet.
Not sure why. :( Will try again tomorrow, otherwise need to wait until Monday to call them…

    • How did you go?

      Also struggling…

      • +1

My issue was unable to receive the OTP SMS when trying to add to Google Wallet.
I've to call them for help.

Their system is shit. When I call them, it refuse to put me to a real person and refer me to online chat.
But Online chat refer me back to their hotline.
It's like WTF are they wasting my time.
Here's a shortcut to reach a real CS rep.

        -Dial 13 22 66 (for BoM)
        -Press 2
-Press # (you do not need to enter your customer number)
        -Quote "Internet Banking"
        -Quote "Setting Up"
-Press # (you do not need to enter your customer number)

        Good luck.

        • Thanks.

I also found it really hard to speak with someone, and usually say 'fraud', as they gets you through to a human lol.

          Appreciate your help!

Their website and application is so horrible. Stopped half way, then I had to download and install their app for further ID check. Then the app's ID check asked for selfie, but failed to recognize my face.
Now I have to go to their bank with 2 of my IDs… not to mention after that I will need to wait for their cards to arrive then spend $50, all things within 14 days!

I should just apply for Westpac instead… or shouldn't apply at all. Not worth all the problems.

    • Yea their ID verification system is a shitshow. Westpac use the same system btw. I tried multiple times but I ended up having to go to a Westpac branch to verify ID. Now I tried with St George and same thing.

      • if you are working in financial sector you will know that most of the banks in australia has shit backend they may have fancy website but its all shit behind it.

        • I believe your observation applies to every industry in Australia.
Everything is shit here. That's why rich people don't stay here and foreign investors shut down their business.

Still no cashback for either BoM or BankSA after a couple of weeks. Tried calling them, they hung up after I was being transferred, tried chat instead and they basically said if you meet the requirement the payment will be made within 60 days of meeting eligibility criteria (I wasn't aware of the 60 days part). From previous comments though, people that are actually getting the cashback got it within a few days, so seems like if it goes over a week or so then you aren't getting it automatically for whatever reason…

Anyway, I've set a reminder for early September to check again, then contact again if still nothing.

    • I set reminder mid august and if not then mid September…

  • I got my card, but I was unable to add to my Google Wallet. Restart my phone did not do the trick unfortunately

Be aware that no matter what kind of account you select to open, if you answer that you own a concession card they will override it and give you a basic concession account, which is not eligible. My welcome email lists the kind of account I selected but in the app it displays a concession account, so their UI or system is broken. And saying that you don't own a concession card if you do is a violation of their terms of service, so effectively their policy is that disabled people are excluded from this.
