Prices have certainly come down for these.

As someone who hasn't paid attention to the GPU market for the last few years: Jesus Christ

      • +2

Yeah, what could a GPU possibly cost? I paid an absolute premium for my 1080ti, $1100 in the day.

    • +15

Only another $2500 to go to be reasonable 🤔

    Cheers bought 3

Bought one for my Raspberry Pi 5

        • +13

Are you sure the 5090 won't bottleneck your Pi 5?

        • +1

I would like to see what this rig would look like.

  • +17

    No deal.

Waiting for PCCG to match this price to get the included gummy bears.

  • +1

I will buy a pair of these, to render a train, which I could also afford.

    • +2

Bonus points if it has a flux capacitor and flies!

  • +4

Id love to know how much these actually cost to make.
What do we think, under $500?

    • +6

Based on some quick googling, the manufacturing cost for NVIDIA per 5090 chipset (ie. taking into account the cost to them for the larger silicon wafer they purchase at a specific rate from TSMC) is estimated to be about 290 USD, or closer to the 340 USD if the wafers can't be used for anything except a 5090.
From there apparently the dGPU kit cost to board partners is ~515 USD, but they have to attach a cooler, print and assemble the retail boxes including cables, do shipping/warehousing/logistics, fulfil warranties, etc. Add all that in though, account for currency exchange rates and whatnot, and you get a lot closer to the RRP NVIDIA recommends (ie. giving AIBs close to no margin for all the trouble and risk).

        Research and development is free?

        • +1

If they use AI powered by these cards to develop the next series, then yes

Even $3000 is crazy. Still a way to go. Will take years, but for around $2000 I can see myself buying one. Might be when a 6090 is out or longer, but still…

    • Will never go that low. Prices are only going up and sale prices will happen I just don't think you will see less than 3k.. even that's a stretch probably 3.5k.
Edit: point made price went back up as demand increased at $4099

      • Technology prices will always drop. One day the 5090 will be worth $5. Yeah, it all takes time and probably won't drop below 3k retail. Second hand will be the only option most likely to get those 2-3k prices and it will be when its somewhat outdated.

        • Look at the second hand market for 3090. They have all gone up. It's not dropping.
I'm just not sure how true that is for this too tier cards are..
In my opinion someone would have to be crazy to buy at this prices but it's the state of affairs as they are now.

          • @maverickjohn: On average, I have seen them drop by around 1k same as the 3080ti cards. A 50% drop. I bought a 3080 ti for 2k and now see them for around $850

    • +3

Doubt it'll get lower, something finds a way to keep demand up.

I've been holding my breath for hdd prices to crash ever since the Thai floods..

  • +1

Will the Chinese come up with their equivalent and disrupt the market?

    • +4

they already have 1080ti equivalent now. not far behind

  • Playstation 7 will have better graphics. Hodl.

Got four, thanks OP. Now just need a million dollars for a house to put it in

  • +4

What game is worth paying this much

    • +4

None, really only makes sense if your rendering bulk 4K videos or running Local LLMs but even then it's a waste of money. You still need to pay the power bill

      • *VR. VR VR VR VR VR VR VR .

To be honest, I don't think I would buy this even if it hit $2500. The 12VHPWR connector design would have me checking the inside of my case for smoke every few minutes. Paying this much for added agita doesn't make sense to me.

    • Modern psus have the updated connector but yeah still a risk. It’s why local warranty is vital for this purchase.

  • Back in the day Titan Xp (better than an RTX X090 card) was US$1200 or about $1600 before Aussie dollar sank and inflation went nuts. Will we ever see 5090's at even $2000? or $2500?
