  • is the "easy to install" part

    • Pretty easy to do! It's just 2 contacts into the back of your opener. Here's a video showing how to do it.

It’s easy. Just need a ladder, a garage door and a motor.

When I bought this in the last sale. I was thinking it'd be a big fuss to connect it. Turns out it was extremely simple with just two cables connecting to the unit with a magnetic sensor running to the roller door to detect opening/closing.

    • Connecting the unit to the garage door opener is trivial.

However, getting the reed switch to detect door open/closed installed properly can be a pain.

      • So it comes with a seperate magnetic sensor to detect open/close status, not just a remote inching switch?

        • Yes correct, it does its own validation. It’s much more robust this way in my experience as it’s a physical reed switch. Pretty hard to go wrong this way.

  • Is it possible to add Homekit support to an existing non-Homekit unit? 3/5 people at home have moved to Apple devices and would like to have the unit showing up on Carplay.

    • It's doable but requires some tinkering. You can use Homebridge running via HomeAssistant to do this. But you'd need to have some dedicated hardware to run this to act as a proxy.

  • Homekit or non homekit? I've got no Apple devices but I am Already running home assistant so could get homebridge running, would there be any benefit?

    • I also wondered whether the homekit version picks up wifi signal better….

    • I would recommend Homekit as it would then be running local only. If you use the Meross version with HomeAssistant you have to then integrate with meross's MQTT which can cause issues at times.

        Thanks, ordered one 👍

    • I have the Non-HomeKit version working with Home Assistant through the Meross LAN integration without any issues. I don't have any Apple devices or homebridge.

Not sure how it compares but the $20 no name version I bought from eBay works perfectly fine with mine, uses the tuya app.

    • As mentioned above you then have to run Tuya or LocalTuya which can have teething issues, at least with my experience with Tuya. For something like a Garage Door I want it to work 100% of the time.

    • May I have the eBay link please.

  • I have the Android version and I couldn't get it to work because I have a beam blocking access to the electrical box of the motor.

If anyone wants my one and are in Perth, flick me a PM for free pick up. I CBF posting.
