  • Insane. Regardless of what everyone says about Maxtor HD, this is a good deal and i might go pick one up. The question is, will they have only 2 per store?

  • I wouldnt think so, because they have written in the paper 2 per person, to stop people buying in bulk and selling them off for a higher price. But i could be wrong

  • Is this SATA drive? I don't know why Maxtor website only list the available capacity for Maxtor Basics as 1TB, 750GB and 500GB

  • +1

    640gb 98
    1tb 178

HN Brisbane city branch still got more than 20 stocks this afternoon…
    Good deal!

ALSO they have microsoft vx500 lifecam for $24 (after cashback it is $9)
and microsoft wireless optical desktop (keyboard+mouse) = %38 (after cashback it is $18)

    • +1

The Brisbane city branch has none left. The Aspley branch had none. The Everton Park one had about 5-6 left. They had them hidden round a corner away from all the other hard drives and they had $130 on them instead of $98, so just ask and they will change it to $98.

  • +1

Its the same model as the 500gb at dse for $99.

  • So, is this a 500Gb or 640Gb?

  • -8

JPOWER is wrong and an idiot.

the same model would be the same size drive. Since this is 640gb it's a DIFFERENT MODEL.

  • +2

640gb version exists but its not on maxtor's website. JPOWER meant its the same series/design/enclosure as the 500gb one at DSE. So it IS the same model but not the same size. Different specification maybe ;) Just like an XT falcon and an XR8 falcon are still the same model (a falcon). No need to be an ass about it quantocks…

    • +2

Don't worry about quantocks, he post rubbish all the time.

  • +2

Looks like I will be going to HN instead of dse.

    Thanks JPOWER.

  • i think i saw an ad the other day in syd morning herald - 640GB Western Digital ext hard drive for $109 at Officeworks. dont quote me on it but I thought it was $109 (640 GB, but might have been 500 GB). If you can find someone to match/beat the $109, I would say its better value than the Maxtor.
it was not the mini WD drives

    • That was 500gb, still not a bad price for WD.

  • shit :( bought my own enclosure and hdd and costed more then this. It only looks marginally better too.

  • This isn't all stores though is it? I went down to my local HN this morning and this drive is $149 (or 2 for $270)

    • which stores did you go to? just so we know not to go to those stores?

      • The store I went to had $130 on them. You just had to ask and they changed the price to $98.

  • I went to Campbelltown in Sydney. They had HEAPS of these drives but i got the price wrong. They have them for $179 not 149.
It didn't seem that they even know the Christmas sales are on. Hardly any specials on anything in store

  • I called HN in QV and they told me it's only special for Boxing day and all sold out yesterday.

  • Visited Harvery Norman in Woodville, SA at 11am today.
Noticed a ground stack near the registers of about a dozen of the 640gb version for $98.
More may have been available on a shelf somewhere.

Very good deal, even if you remove the hard drive from the USB case and install it into your PC.

    • so there would be some there tomoro?

      • I will return to the store tomorrow for other purchases and I will advise on stock I can see.

        • All gone, i went today.

          • @JPOWER: yes I went earlier and found none in stock.
lots of 1TB Maxtor external USB drives for $178 still available.

  • if someone could post the receipt, we can price match at OW and get cheaper by 5% ? ($93.1)

    • Yeh, can som1 do that?

    • The office works price guarantee terms & conditions state that they will only beat a competitors price by 5% if the item is in stock.

So no need for a copy of a HN receipt as the OW sales rep will most likely have to call the competitor to check on stock levels.

  • Went there today and they had the 1tb model for $178 as well. Couldn't haggle a cheaper price unfortunately

  • Can't find it at HN Auburn. When I asked the lovely sales guy, he pointed at those WD 640Gb for $140 or thereabouts..

Talk about customer service at Hardly Normal.

  • We got one from HN in Darwin today. They had heaps of stock.

  • Went to the Moore Park store in Sydney today & it's still $98 and plenty in stock
