When I went a few months ago there was supposedly a limit of $2000 in gift cards per day in addition to the 10 card limit which impacted me as I bought variable load cards.

    • Wouldn't the $2000 limit have applied to fixed value cards max of 10 x $200 cards per day?
It just says max 10 variable load cards per day with no mention of a $ limit.

      • That's what I would have thought, but they could not process it in-store and I had to go back the day after.

I just went in and purchased $3,600 worth of gift cards in one go - the cashier didn't say anything about a daily limit.

      • That's nice, I was trying to buy $3100, might depend on the store, maybe they changed the policy or I got unlucky lol.

The works out to 10% off a puppy on Facebook.

  • Does this apply to variable rate cards? And what is the max value on the variable ones? Thanks!

    • +1

According to FreePoints it does, the variable ones come in $20-$500. :)

      • Cheers :)

Got $2,000 worth last week from Coles and I must say the new cards are much more fraud proof. There's a tab the staff need to rip off to scan the barcode and the card is glued onto the paper packaging so it's much more difficult for scammers to tamper with.

They are also stored behind the counter.

Are they also stored behind the counter at Woolies now?

    • I think it is very dependant on the store of where they are stored, I bought some from Coles Runaway Bay, Coles Hope Island and Coles Pacific Fair and all were still on the gift card stand/on the shop floor.

    • The Woolies I bought from didn't store them behind the counter.

  • Do the GCs apply to apple EDU store as well?

  • Can you use everyday wish gc's to purchase these?

    • no

  • Got two months free Apple TV with the $50 one I redeemed. Wonder if they stack on top of each other or redeem the other one later? I purchased two.

  • Thanks, bought 2 of version-2 $500 and redeemed without issue. And EDR points also received instantly. I'll buy more for MBA m4.

  • Does anyone know how to use these giftcards on the AOC store?

Purchased a $100 card off the shelf, walked to the car and opened it to find the scratchie sticker (that covers the code) loose and a third of the redemption code characters scratched out from the card itself making it impossible to use.

Walked straight back in and got a replacement. Staff there noted that there have been weird cases even with the newer Apple gift cards - none of us could tell if it was outright tampering or a manufacturing issue.

    Pays to check!

be very careful guys, ask the staff to open and check, I bought 10 cards, each $200, she has to check 16, so 6 out of 16 were fraudulent. If you dont check there itself and find out later, woolworths will need to take that loss and big chances that they wont so you will lose money or lot of trouble for both you and store.

    • What did they look like? My two were fine.

      • the had missing last few numbers, woolies guy told me they have already been redeemed. Not sure how is that possible unless the third party producing themselves are doing it. as they were all packed and she had to tear the cover to take out the card. scratching sticker was coming of easily on all of them both valid and used.

        • I had the same experience this morning. The card looked super legit, all wrapped up and everything, except once opened up and scratched the last handful of characters were missing.
Luckily it only happened to one of mine: a $100 one. All of the variable cards were fine. I took it back and they swapped it out.

          My recommendations:

          • Ask a member of staff to get you some "fresh" cards from behind the gift card stand.
          • Redeem them in the car or somewhere quiet so that you can go and take them back easily if any of them are faulty.

An assumption that I have is that this doesn't happen to variable-load cards.

Perhaps another tip might be to ensure you only buy variable cards, then have them loaded up how you like.

The reason I assume this is because there is manual work required by the cashier to update the card with the amount you want on it, rather than it being a set amount. This could be completely false but all I know is that all 7 of my variable cards were fine and the one that didn't work was a pre-defined $100 one. They were all grabbed from behind the gift card stand by the cashier though, the only one that wasn't was the $100 one that didn't work.

          • @j1nx: I would say, better ask staff to check and scratch all of them in front of you, staff told me once its activated successfully, the money is already been transferred to apple account. So woolies wont be able to get it back and they may refund/replace out of goodwill or not, better to check at the counter itself, go to service counter instead of self checkout.

@mannyTheMemmoth: Oh absolutely, if you can do that then that's gonna be the best thing to do, no doubt. Depending how busy the Woolies is, you may not want to/be able to stand at the front scratching thousands of dollars worth of gift cards though.

The guy behind the counter didn't flinch when I took mine back this morning, it sounds like I'm not the first person this has happened to.
