  • Anyone else have hands on experience with an n5100 laptop?
Wondering how slow it will actually be with general usage - maybe a couple of chrome tabs and Spotify app playing?

    imo this is landfill lol

    • I like to defend Chromebooks but, yes, ASUS = Landfill.

      • Had the same experience with a Windows tablet. Never again. HP only these days.

It's 'US military-grade durability' says so in the description

  • is the display IPS? Literally the difference between a cheap laptop or not

    • There is nothing wrong in principle with TN displays. They just seem to have stopped making good ones a long time ago.
      A bit like steel-frame bicycles.

This is e-waste, you're much better off buying one of those ex-corporate refurbs for $300

    • Agreed you are better off with ex-corp.
But why e-waste? The specs appear more than adequate for running Chrome. 8GB is plenty.
Past entry-level models have suffered from 768P displays or inadequate RAM.

95% sure this is my computer (I have CX1500CK written on the back)

I find it to be quite good, been using it since December last year daily. I've been a Chromie for over 10 years though so it's not like I had any adjusting to make. Battery life is pretty decent, screen is nice enough, speakers do alright, all that shit. Webcam is mid (as always), thought it would be weird going back to a numpad on the side (haven't had one of those since the late 2000s) but it was pretty easy to adjust to. Comfortable keyboard, good for typing long essays on OzBargain anyway.

Only problem I've ever had is it can chug a little bit with Steam stuff if you sideload it, handles a lot of PS3 era games fine via Steam. In the end the only thing I kept before I ultimately just deleted Steam was the original Star Wars Battlefront, which again, ran a treat. So you're milage WILL vary, but there's more Steam support on it than I expected tbh. Android apps run as well as you'd expect (a positive) too which is nice. Definitely an upgrade from my last Chromebook with 4GB RAM.

  • sell-er-on .. 🤧 !!

This is suitable for kids whose school prescribe Chromebooks for their students.
