This is a PoE (power over Ethernet) video doorbell camera. Key features are 5 megapixel camera, two-way talk, person recognition, included Chime (that is, a unit you plug into a powerpoint inside which plays a doorbell noise when the doorbell is pressed for extra reach).

From the product page -

2K+ 5MP Super HD Image in 180° Diagonal: Find the right position for your doorbell with its 15° wedge kit and enjoy the super wide field of view. Incredible 5MP HD, with advanced HDR/3D DNR and distortion correction technologies, brings you sharp and detailed images even in low light conditions.

Chime V2 Included & Answer the Door Faster: Plug the chime included into any electrical socket in any room and be confidently alerted when visitors "knock". You can choose 1 of its 10 tunes and adjust its volume. You can also preset voice messages or automatic replies for times when you're occupied. Chime Compatibility: Reolink Chime-V2.

Easy & Reliable PoE Setup: Finish the installation in minutes with a Power over Ethernet design (power supply NOT included) also with unmatched stability - data transfers with no reliance on spotty signal but with a wired connection. An internet break won't stop it from 24/7 recording.

Flexible Storage Options & Versatile Software: Reolink software provides lifetime service that requires NO monthly fee. It supports pre-roll recording, which provides valuable 6s footage from before an event is triggered. Recordings can be stored on a microSD card (Max. 256GB, not included), Reolink NVR for built-in 2TB/4TB HDD local storage, or FTP/NAS.

Accurate Alerts by Humanoid Detection: You can set it to alert you when a human is detected, ignoring trivial non-human passers-by, and you can set the motion zone to decide where objects’ movements will be detected.

Great doorbell, but can often be had from AliExpress for around $75 for POE or $85 for Wi-Fi after frequently posted discount codes and coupons.

Note, unless you need the black version for aesthetic reasons or a wide-angle view, go with the white version since it is a marginally enhanced. Main difference is the inclusion of AI package detection since its aspect ratio can be set to portrait rather than locked to landscape like the black version.

Also, for anyone pairing with the 8 channel RLN8 NVR, it can actually accept 9 powered inputs if at least one of them (cams or doorbells) is wifi. Since many people retrofit these in place of pre-existing doorbells, some repurpose existing doorbell power cabling in conjunction with wifi, rather than running new CAT5/6 to the NVR, which is often more challenging than the average POE camera cable run…

    • Didn’t think about not having full Ethernet but POE and wifi for the doorbell. If my old doorbell has a 240V connection, how to best dial that down to the POE supply for this model?

      • Couldn’t tell you.

The wifi model comes with a PSU as well as a range of accessories and power options for connecting to existing 240v and other chime / doorbell power sources. I’m not sure what is included with the POE model.

      • The connectors on the doorbell accept 12 volts DC from the power pack that is supplied with the wifi version; or 24V AC from a "standard" doorbell transformer. If your doorbell runs off 240v, you would need to get an online stepdown transformer installed.

If your doorbell really runs 240V to the pushbutton, make sure no-one who rings your doorbell is ever standing in a puddle of salty water..except maybe door knocking political candidates…

    No rich notification without subscription.

    • Are you sure about? The only thing subscription avails is cloud storage.

      • -1

Yes, to get the thumbnail notification you need cloud storage subscription. I nearly bought this and then checked to find out that you don't receive it without subscription.

        • +3

The subscription is free if all you want is the basic rich notification functionality for up to 25 alerts per day. More than that and you just get the text alert and have to view footage via the app.

This was added via a firmware update around six months ago, initially to the wifi and battery doorbells. I’m not sure if the POE doorbell has had this functionality added yet.

@UncleRico: It seems to be device dependant and I haven't found a list of what devices requiring subscription for rich notification.

          • @UncleRico: I've had the POE version for over a year now, in conjunction with their NVR. I get instant push notification when somebody presses the doorbell, I'm not aware of any limitations in my case. I believe I have a subscription because that's how the remote access side works, but I'm not paying anything.

        • +1

@nadan I can confirm Uncle Rick is correct, the rich notifications are free (within limits) and work well.

  • Has anyone managed to connect the display screen for this doorbell? Eg hang the display screen in kitchen area wall and get instant view of someone at door rather than looking at mobile app reolink or going to the door?

    • I thought about this, with an old device running the app. A Reolink screen device would be nice tho.

      • yeah, I wonder how come they didnt come up with screen yet

  • Hey, sorry if this has already been asked, but between this and Eufy, which one's easier to set up and has better features? I can code a little, but I'm no pro.

    • +1

      It was asked here.

All depends on your use case.

Reolink requires running cables, but is set and forget once done. No WiFi required for the camera (unless you choose WiFi Cameras from Reolink). No subscription.

Eufy often requires subscription and needs WiFi plus batteries/solar etc for the cameras.

      No need to code anything.

Reolink is great bang for buck and you can often get more cameras than what a Eufy kit would provide you.

        Thank you!

        Eufy often requires subscription

Eufy doesn't require subscription unless you want Cloud storage.

Is this same as the one listed on AliExpress for $65 last week?

    • 50% it could be as there is a White and Black Version. Do you have a link? I cannot find a OzB deal for AliExpress recently for the Doorbell.

      • +1

Here's the deal from a couple of weeks ago for the doorbell:

        • +1

Ah, I was just looking for the specific doorbell deal, not a combined deal.

          • @geekcohen: Now that I looked at the old deal post again, I'm lamenting not buying the ColorX at that price too. Will have to keep my eye out for that one to drop again, would love to have colour nightvision out the front of the house.

    • Yep, it is. I bought one in that AliExpress deal.
