    Paging @UncleRico

  • how does the reolink cloud storage work?

I'm looking to buy the 2k one but not sure how best rhe poe wiring process will be.

    • Unlike Ring you pay $50 annually subscription for like 8 devices or so instead of just a camera, alternatively you can get playback with a SD card instead of cloud.

      • Say I buy a 256 gb high endurance sdcard and also can view it with google home app?

        • RSTP is available on most cameras that are hardwired but not battery operated so that should be possible. You would need to check the camera specifics on website, but one thing I like about Reolink is they have a native Windows and MacOs application unlike other brands.

  • I can't seem to find the coupon

Sorry guys - big night and under the weather, so commentary will be mercifully brief.

But in summary… buy. Great prices for two great products. I suggest the CX810 as the base camera to build a household install around, on account of its great night vision, build quality and bang for buck. And if you’ve got them, don’t forget to buy from the Coins page for a further 11% discount.

If you’re after a POE doorbell, you won’t beat this price. Whilst I personally prefer wifi doorbells for easier cabling off the back of existing doorbell wiring, and to free up a channel on the RLN8 which can actually accept 9 feeds - if at least one of them is wifi - this is a great doorbell.

    Great work @Clear!

    • Is the ColorX 8MP camera in this deal the CX810? The camera design looks the same, but I can’t confirm from the AliExpress listing.

      • +1

Yep, 8mp ColorX is the CX810.

        • Thank you!

Btw, how does the doorbell camera work? Is the output also RTSP? But chime is Bluetooth? Sorry; complete noob here.

          • +2

@prophet: The chime is 915mhz (assuming you order the AU plug) according to the specs.

CX810 does need quite a bit of ambient light to work at night, was surprised even my driveway with street light a few doors down doesn’t have enough light

Also has a bit of a problem with people/animals looking like ghosts. Check videos of this before buying

      • True. Reolink aren’t known for the strength of their night vision, but the CX410 and CX810 / CX820 are the pick of the bunch and are streets ahead of their other cams for low light footage.

Whilst the 8mp arguably doesn’t fare as well as the 4mp CX410 in ultra low light, saying it needs “quite a bit” of ambient light can be mitigated by tweaking settings and there’s plenty of online info, esp in the Reolinkcans reddit group. My CX810s are augmented by a 20m away street light at the front and a neighbours porch light at the back, and I’m very happy with the vision after tweaking. Also, if you’re supplementing with any wide angle overview cams or PTZ for more detailed tracking, their LEDs should provide sufficient ambient lighting for the ColorX’s.

    • which camera type do you recommend for house (outside and inside)?

e.g. bullet, turret, dome, PTZ and any others etc?

also are turret only allow manual adjustment of the direction of the camera or can do it via app?
or is it only PTZ that allows adjustment with app?

What NVR model do you recommended and do the reolink work only with reolink NVR or work with other brands?

      • Generally speaking, PTZ stands for pan tilt zoom. It can be app controlled or automatic if it has recognition features (e.g. In a follow mode)

Looks to be out of stock from Aus now.

    • Still in stock but running low now.

Am i missing something? it is showing up as $60.07USD after factoring in tax?

  • +1

It’s showing $100 for the buller camera doe me. Is the ~$86 factoring in the 12% cash back?

  • Does anyone know if these cameras work on the rebadged uniden guardian systems? Their nvrs and cameras are identical and some of them even have screenshots of reolink branded software in the manuals. If not, does anyone know if the uniden nvrs can have their firmware updates to stock reolink?

    • Reolink should work with most third party NVR systems since they support RTSP and ONVIF

      • Yeah but I am not sure if uniden have software locked off other cameras so you have to stay in their ecosystem

        • I know Reolink cameras work in the UniFi ecosystem, not sure about Uniden. ChatGPT says most likely not, unless your Uniden system is recent and supports ONVIF (which is apparently unlikely)

          • @theSav: It's the same nvr as the Reolink, identical down to the button layout and style, they have changed nothing but the brand label, only the software is different, and even that might be just labelled different also and link back to reolink servers. The only question is whether it's been locked off.

At least one review said it only works with uniden cameras, but I doubt that guy even tried, and the cameras are identical also.

  • Any deals on NVRs?

    • +1

Yep. Reolink 36CH 12MP Security Camera System 2-Way Audio 4K NVR for 5MP/8MP IP Camera 24/7 Video Recording Surveillance System NVS36

      • No POE on this model right?

        • Correct. @Clear has previously posted deals on the 10 port Keeplink POE switch which has a generous 130w power budget and can be had for under $35. Likewise, there’s quite a few deals on cheap sub-$40 TP-link 5 and 8 port switches, albeit with half the power budget.

It also includes no harddrive, so factor one in. The 2tb that comes with the RLN8 gets less than a week from 4 8mp cams, so you’ll likely need more storage anyway - and the RLN36 has three internal drive bays, so plenty of growth potential.

  • Is there a way to track everything on one app with tp link cameras?

  • Getting a price of $97 including tax for the cx810?

  • Pity the doorbell is not wireless.

  • +1

I only see a US $3 off spend over $3.01, not a US $5 off, which brings the cost down to $55.51USD

    Anyone else see the same?

    • Yup same, only $3

  • -2

Okay, cant figuire it out for myself. Why are all these deals being posted in USD? When I head over to Aliexpress its all in AUS.. Is it cheaper to buy in USD but have it shipped to AU?

    • +1

Mentioned in the deal. AliExpress trade in USD so that rate stays the same, while AUD will fluctuate.

  • Hey guys, i need a POE camera for my backyard which is super dark at night. no night lights. i'm looking for something with 4MP as i don't think there is enough light for 8MP or 12MP cameras. any recommendations?

    • There’s only really one Reolink cam you’d consider - the CX410, but it’s currently out of stock on AliExpress.

That said, ultra low-light is not Reolink’s strength, so you may have to look elsewhere and/or increase your budget.

      • the CX410 has been discontinued. I'm happy to look at other options and increase my budget too if anything jumps out in particular, but not goo too crazy with the budget xD

  • +1

I am after a doorbell and lock combo. Currently the old one installed connects to the phones back inside (just for door) and you can talk over the phone/intercomm between the two and a button to unlock. This has never worked other than the doorbell occasionally since we moved in.
I would like a doorbell and keypad combo so we don't need keys when heading out. Does anyone have any budget ideas?

  • Any good deals on the CX820? Been holding out on dropping 6x cameras for that due to the form factor
