Here's a tablet for those who are always asking me for something smaller than the usual 12.7" offerings and for those on a tighter budget. This one is a new release and was posted last month for a couple of dollars less.

This one offers Android 15 with Google Play, 8GB RAM, 128GB UFS storage with microSD support, 4G LTE with B28 support, Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, MediaTek Helio G99 CPU suitable for light gaming/emulation, 5100mAh battery with USB-C, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, measures 212.8mm(L) x 125.4mm(W) x 8.3mm(H) and weighs 368g.

Since this is a budget tablet there's one downside - the 8.7" display is only 1340x800 resolution, however it does offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

  • Apply the coupon AFAU16 or AUGW16 at checkout

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate, GST inclusive and doesn't stack with TCB/SB/CR cashback.

Alternatively you can get the Alldocube iPlay 50 Mini Pro 8GB/128GB for US$78.69 (~A$121.19) or 8GB/256GB US$89.77 (~A$138.26) with the same code. The downside with this tablet is that it ships with Android 13, but the 8.4" display is FHD at least.. Refer to previous deals for discussion.

How to get the AU$ price in the title with PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

Is there anything smaller that will fit in my pocket with my phone?

      Another phone?

    • +34

Ooo, I love riddles. Is it helicopters?

    • +3

Hah I get this, I'm an iOS guy but like having an Android device to muck around on and see what's happening on that side of town, usually a second hand flagship from 1-2 years ago is my go to but I'm paying an unnecessary 'phone premium' for those unused functions so a small tablet makes a lot of sense

Unusual reason to be downvoted. I really like having something that's wider than a phone (like an 8" tablet) to use and not massively big like the >10" offerings. The Nexus 7 was amazing for it.

      • +1

Aye. I totally loved both of my 7s. They were really easy to hold

    • Fold 7 exclusive for you ~ only $2k

    • sound like you want a fold phone

  • Less than half the speed of the 12.7" 8300 chip.

    • +10

That's a big chip, how big is the tablet!

I wish there were more mini tablet options. They’re great for reading and watching media. I find the massive tablets unwieldy. I love my Lenovo Y700

      Mini 70 turbo
      Redmi k pad
      Redmagic 3 pro

      • +1

Thanks :) I’ll check these out if my Lenovo ever carks it.

My second wish is that there were more flagship mini tablets and that they were readily available domestically.

      Spyware from the US?

      • Actually I was making a joke. Motorola Mobility is owned by Lenovo, which is a Chinese company. The Motorola that made all those chips in the 80s, is another company.

Unironically, you want spyware from the country that you are NOT in. Cause if you have a laptop infested with CHINESE spyware, and the feds wanna search you, they can't, cause the CHINESE won't UNLOCK the device.

      • +2

It does give spyware from the US

on the setup page multiple times for my g54/75 and edge 50 neo it mentions America America US data will be held and collected in U.S.A 🦅🦅🦅 servers.

  • There’s also been some cheap Alldocube iplay mini (8.4”) tablets, models 50, 60 & 70, including pro models

    • +3

I included the iPlay 50 Mini Pro in the description since they're cheap. I just wish the iPlay 70 Mini Ultra wasn't so expensive

  • I highly recommend the iplay 50 mini. Gorgeous screen for the price.

I did have some issues with the touchscreen that was solved by opening it up and sticking some copper emi tape inside though.

    • +3

      what they don't have headphones ? 😭

  • There's a photo showing a user wearing a wired headset, yet nothing in specs about a 3.5mm socket.

    • According to this it does not have one. USB C earphones would work at least right?

  • Hey @Clear, correct me if I'm wrong but the NFE version (which I believe is the one in the link) of the Alldocube iPlay50 Mini Pro supports Widevine L1 so should play Netflix in HD.

    • +1

      Yes my bad

  • Is this decent as an ereader?

  • While it's horses for courses, I've discovered I much prefer a smaller Android tablet for browsing and watching videos - easier to hold and takes up hardly any space/weight when travelling, even fitting in some cargo pants' pockets. I eventually wore out a Huawei MediaPad 3, and with this series no longer sold in AU, I bought an Fpad3 $124 cheapie online that was posted here on OzB.

It had boot-up problems initially, showing odd patterns on the screen for over 5 minutes before coming good … well, sort of. While it was fine once running, during the boot-up, it began to flag a serious error code. I worried it'd fail while travelling, so I persisted with finding a fix. Factory resets and refreshes failed, so the seller sent a custom Android update fix. However, while preparing for this, I tried one more system reinstall and eliminated the error message, but the slow boot-ups with weird screen patterns persisted.

Not trusting it to last, I bought a full-size Samsung A8, but even that had initial problems that an update thankfully fixed, since Samsung Support had given up after weeks of trying. After using both sizes of tablet, the little Fpad3 still wins around the home, in bed and when travelling. Better still, while occasionally messing with it recently to transfer some files, it seems to have responded to its being off for ages and now boots up fairly fast without any worrying messages and random patterns, so it's now loaded up with videos and eBooks for our next long-haul flight.

Should it eventually get too old and slow, and despite having a Samsung A8 in reserve, I'd have no hesitation in buying another 8" Android cheapie that pops up on OzBargain.

I bought an Fpad3 a couple of years ago. It didn’t have your problems, but at about a year old the gps started playing up. I use it for navigation on a dirt bike, so it gets a lot of vibration, bouncing around, dust and odd light rain. I still use it, but every ride the gps lags and/or drifts off a few times, then eventually corrects itself. Irritating, but usable. I’ve recently bought a cheap Alldocube iPlay50 Pro to try

      • +1

Yes, my old Fpad3's GPS isn't the greatest at picking up enough satellites indoors for a 3D fix, even near a window.

  • How is the future firmware update from this brand ?

    • If it's anything like alldocube, non-existent

  • Do any of these cheaper Ali tablets have community support for custom ROMs?

The hardware is (looks) solid, but the software sounds trash, it's a shame these manufacturers don't just angle to facilitate developers to build open source solutions, would save them on software costs and they could just coast on thin hardware margins…

how bad is the 1340x800 resolution ? Main use case would be to stick in the car as for Android auto
