  • Saw the AK1 earlier, just wasn't able to work out if the 1TB is NVMe or SATA. In all the reviews of the N95 variants they've had SATA M2 and they don't specify for either of these models.

    • It's a SATA M.2 drive. If you look at the third picture on the Amazon listing, it shows the read/write speeds-which are consistent with SATA M.2 performance, not NVMe.

      • SATA would cap out at 600MB/s, but I don't know if I can trust the pics as I saw the same thing on another model that definitely had SATA M.2

If you're after something compact and power-efficient with solid all-round performance, the N150 is a great pick. But if you need a bit more grunt for heavier tasks and don't mind using a bit more power, the N97 might be the better option.

    • What’s the difference? Ark says they’re identical spec wise except for TDP. Boost behavior?

  • Says Bluetooth 4.2 at the top, but 5.2 in the description below?

  • N97 doesn't add to cart.

  • Which one is better for proxmox home lab and will it be a capable server for that purpose? Thanks

    • Depends how many services you are planning to host.

      N97, N100 and N150 will work ok.

The 8gb in this N150 will be limiting though.

      • yeah, from some reading, it seems N97 and N150 won't be much different … so 16GB on the N97 model will be an advantage. The deal has expired anyway but will look out for future deals. Thanks.

    • Actually, continuing my question here … Are N150 and N97 favourable for proxmox server as compared to the old AMD Ryzen 5 3550H? Thanks.

      • +2

The Ryzen 3550H has twice the threads and outperforms both the N processors for any multithreaded workloads. The N processors are much better for transcoding and use a bit less power.

Not an upgrade at all unless you're looking for transcoding.

        • Thanks @p32h8h9sedf. Don't plan to use it for transcoding, just to run few docker image. And I haven't got any … in the market for a mini pc. Would you recommend N processors over old Ryzen 5 3550H? The comparison is because there are still mini pc with that Ryzen processor at around the same price.

          • @RainInWinter: what dockers do you have in mind?

you will want to also compare the power draw for 24/7

I could run a few lxcs and one instance of Home Assistant on my N150 - which has 12GB DDR5 on board. The RAM was the limit, so buying a mini PC (if you're only ever wanting to run a VM and a few lxc instance - as you're limited to 4 core CPU) with a RAM slot where you can expand the RAM if needed would be the way to go in my opinion. Everything ran fine for me, but if you need more VMs, RAM or cpu 'horsepower' then I'd look at another multi-core system that is expandable.

  • Any suggestions for a mini pc with triple display port?

    • Probably need to add a USB-C hub for the third monitor. Usually see two outputs.

    • The AOOSTAR N1 Pro 12GB/256GB N150 offers triple display, as well as dual 2.5Gbps Intel LAN - currently $229 after checking the coupon. I purchased this one for home assistant and NVR, it is working well and quiet in operation.

        Aoostar option is a beast

  • Going to assume this is an OzB recommendation for Plex/HTPC?

    Trying to replace a Kaby Lake/7700K GTX970 laptop 😅

    • Any of these will be fine

  • Buying for parents.. Kamrui any good as a brand? (anyone done a return?)

It's to replace a 6400T system to run Windows 11 with auto updates etc.

I'd probably prefer minisforum perhaps, like a company I might just be able to contact…

Trying to avoid refurb dells, want the machine tk basically last em 5-10 years. Windows would probably cut support for 8th gen at some point lol.

    • There have been issues with Kamrui related mini PCs in the past with malware, however that is likely been sorted out now.

Doesn't instill confidence in me though..

Thanks for the link! I'll wait methinks.. If it was for me I probably wouldn't care, I just want a set and forget for the rents though.

        • don't see why - business level HPs and Lenovos have shipped with malware on the out of the box system before as well. I would NEVER use a pc out of the box without re-installing the O/S I intend to use long term on it.

    • Win-11 will work fine on 6400T . Easy install, e.g. using Ventoy. Just replace HDD (if it has one) with SSD, and clean vents.

I would not bet on a new yumcha outlasting a used optiplex.

      • Yeah it already has Win11 on it, but windows won't auto-update to a new feature version. It'll do security updates up to a point then stop.

I don't want to have to remote manage this/turn up every couple months. Has an SSD already.

If the 9/10th gen optiplex's come down to closer to that sub 200 mark I'd probably just grab one of those. (rents budget is sub 200)

  • Cheers OP, will be perfect for TV PC. 8GB is annoying, but snagged 16GB on marketplace for $25.

    • hmm my n100 with 8GB works fine as the tv pc. Boots into Batocera, then runs Kodi as first app. 8GB more than enough, even for running windows (though why you'd want to as a HTPC is beyond me). I have a HDMI CEC usb controller so I can use my tv remote to control apps on the pc.

      • Can you link the HDMI CEC USB Controller?

If yours is plugged into the TV, isn't that basically a HTPC as well?

        • sorry I meant why you'd want windows for a HTPC - linux is much better suited imo, but horses for course. A usb / wifi motion mouse / remote control is about $20-30.

  • My Kamrui dreams have fled me!

  • So did the AK1 Plus come with a SATA or NVMe SSD in the end?
