Missed a bunch of sales on this one. Everyone went JB or Officeworks while Target sorted their system out, and now Target has sorted their system out people are doing the + discount for $79. Amazon failed for once

  • +24

Been playing the game the last few days, it really does deserve all the credit that its getting. Feels like the spiritual successor to mario odyssey.

It is simply a must play video game.

    • +5

100% agree with you. Really hard to put down once you start playing it; a real joy to play and good challenge.

      • +6

I'll just get one more banana.

        1 hour later…

        • +1

I swear to God they have a RNG to just spam a new treasure chest or something just within reach so you go to that thing and then there's something else just writing each and so on until 5 hours later you're going to bed at 3am with work in the morning

          It's an incredible game.

    • -1

I played Mario Odyssey on the switch all stars recently and it feels so bad coming from BotW

I hadn’t played odyssey before it but I prefer the movement of Mario 64 so far.

Those all take a backseat now that DK is out though

      • You prefer Mario 64 movement!? I didn’t enjoy it because of the movement so stopped playing. Similar with sunshine. Each 3d Mario game has iteratively improved on the movement imo, with odyssey the best. Then Astro bot perfected it lol.

        • +1

Nuttys comment is a bit confusing, as they mention Odyssey in the the switch All-Stars, but Odyssey isn't in the 3D All Stars bundle…

          • +1

            @Wip3out: Sorry, you’re right.

I was thinking of Super Mario Galaxy. The camera in Galaxy is garbage and the movement isn’t great

          • +2

            @Wip3out: Nice username!

Love Wip3out!! (All three ps1 versions)

            • +1

@YoursTruly: So good. Check out the Omega collection on PS4 if you haven't already, looks and plays amazing - the full game is playable in VR also which is mind blowing at first.

              • +1

@Wip3out: Played them all across all consoles (except handhelds) - and yes the VR mode of omega is amazing effect.

However, something about the initial 3 handling and presentation is yet to be beat IMO

                • @YoursTruly: Yep they are awesome for sure, and crazy how well they hold up, still look great on my little PVM and on the Vita.

        • +3

I’m getting my games mixed up, I meant Galaxy

Still waiting on a cheap Astro bot to try that out though

          • @NuttyGoodness: Yeah man I wish I had a ps5 just to try out astro bot. Unfortunately isnt worth getting just for that game…

        • +1

@dan83 if you have a PC or Steam Deck I suggested checking out one of the recompiled projects for SM64. I can't remember exactly which one I played but it ran at 60fps+ and they tightened up the movement.

          • @Slurped: Cool thanks. Hopefully full 3d movement of the right stick too.

    • I've learned the best way to play it is to just explore and work out where the bananas are hidden naturally… I made the mistake with the first couple of worlds just destroying everything and chests flooding me with map locations… way more fun to just explore the worlds and find it all by yourself. Currently on the resort level and have 100% everything prior.

      • Also on the resort level. got tired of smashing through everything. So also just naturally finding bananas :)

Thanks OP; nabbed it with NAB10.

  • +5

Thanks OP Amazon chat was happy to credit me the $10 difference on my pre-order copy.

    • Ooh any tips on succeeding? I was wondering about doing this, haven't done so yet

      • +1

I just said it’s unopened so I have to return it and order again or can you credit me the difference.

They said happy to credit the $10. Took 5 min on the online chat.

        • Yep I just got the same. Told them I didn’t want to waste time returning just to order again. Also said I was disappointed in the price drop just days after. They gave me $15!

          • @darthfrodo99: Yeah but you'd return it at your cost. I don't see why they don't push that

            • @justtoreply: Not necessarily mate. Depends on the reason for return. It seems also different when using Prime. I’ve returned games before for free without issue.

        • +1

Turns out I'm not as persuasive as you. They're not playing ball. Initially thought I'd only paid $89.09, which is what I did pay… exGST ::eyeroll:: Just telling me they're unauthorised to do it..

          • @readeral: They aren’t playing ball with me either! I’ve gone to the manager and they tell me to return it minus $7 and then reorder. I’ll keep fighting lol

            • +1

@ekto: Save the hassle, just return it and re-order…

              • +2

@cloudie9: I'm just returning and buying from Target

              • -1

@cloudie9: They are like change of mind incurs a $7 fee lol. I’m up to the 3rd tier of person now Amazon leadership team lol

                • @ekto: They said the same to me, but "There will be $7 shipping cost to return but as an exception we will refund it once the return completed"

Right until the end they kept trying to persuade me it was a refund of 9c, as if somehow tax would apply to my reorder, but they didn't charge it the first time… clearly used to working with an american customer base.

Guess we'll see if they actually refund that, or if I'll have to fight for them to refund the shipping fee too…

                  • @readeral: I tried again today, first operator put through the $10 no questions asked.

                    • +1

@ekto: I already have a return open (which I’m not gonna leverage) so I doubt I’d have the same success. Just chalking this up to my first (and now only) preorder being a dumb move.

    • Just reached out to live chat and they credited $10 to my account. Thanks for the heads up.

    • Same with me, they credited my account with $10, but only to be spent on something that Amazon ships from Australia. Oh well, that's good enough.

  • Looks like Amazon Australia is price matching Target.

    About time.

Snagged a 79er from Target on release day either way for me though.

  • bought the digi version cause I hate how easy to loose the physical copies are. wish I'd waited though. game is so much fun though

    • +1

Yup. Digital all the way. Just moving my Switch 1 library to the 2 justified my digital purchases lol

  • -5

Is $89 meant to be a bargain?

    • +2

Compared to rrp yes. If you want a real bargain get it on sale in a few years.

    • Google could have answered this.

      • Name checks out

      • GFY.

        • Aw butt hurt as your lame attempt to troll fell very flat? Get over it and grow up.

    • +2

For a RRP 109 dollar game that came out a week ago?

      pauses for moronic effect

      Yes.

      • You're paying $109 for a game????? Thank (profanity) I'm a pc gamer and not getting ripped off by Nintendo

        • I mean I have adult money so I just buy what I want?

sent from my 4090 PC Desktop

I mean I feel for you if you have to pick and choose and scrape just to game… But yeah.. What can I say?

I just buy whatever system I want because I can?

Also it's handy for traveling because I get bored on flights. And the Steam Deck can only carry me so far.

    • Switch 2, new console, only dropped a month ago. Many were expecting S2 games to abe at least be over $100-$120 due to the US game price increases.

Switch 1 first party launch games were roughly $79, so $89 is not bad at all for new generation first party launch games.

      • Nintendo are a bunch of greedy pricks. Don't know why anyone would buy their crap these days

    • Yes

  • +5

Amazon slept too long on price matching this one, I gave in and went to Target at the weekend.

  • Great game! Got it at Harvey Norman price matching Target and using gift card I got from the mario kart bundle deal with 10% gift card.

    • How did that work? Those gift cards (spend $500+ get 10% back in gift cards) were only valid for 1 month from the date of issue. So they would have expired around 5th July. Were HN actually lenient on the expiry date?

      • +1

A lot of people seemed to get a '2 month' expiry. Mine expires 8th August.

      • +2

My one said 2 month expiry but when I tried to use it they said it had already expiried. I showed them the email which mentioned 2 month expiry and they had to reactivate the gift card in order for me to use it.

        • I am glad you posted this I just tried to use mine and it says expired even though my email says 2 months from issue as well!

        • Oh nice one, I had to preorder Bananza otherwise my gift cards would have expired (1 month expiry).

    • Lucky you got yours, I preordered from HN specifically to get those gift cards and on release day the store I was supposed to pick up from had none, and didn't get stock till like a week later.

MFs knocked my credit score by about 40 points even though I cancelled the line of credit and the order.

Never again will I shop at Harvey Norman

  • Maybe they're having trouble selling this because people online are searching "BONanza" and not finding the game?

  • +1

Dang I thought they wont match target so I caved and bought it on Amazon last Thursday. Stacked the app voucher, the random office supplies promo and if I included the cba cashback. It would have been 44, my EGOT!

    • +2

I stacked NAB10 and APP20 back when it was listed for $99 on Amazon.. then Amazon matched Targets price of $89 and still gave me $30 off.. so it came down to $59. happy days!

  • +2

Amazing game!! I can’t seem to put it down! (Mario Kart World as well!! Time trial is somehow addictive!)

Looking forward to Metroid Prime 4 next!! (and whatever surprises the next Mario/ Zelda 3D will be)

  • +3

FYI…this game is INCREDIBLE!! Easily going to be a Game of the Year nominee.
It makes Super Mario Odyssey seem barren. The amount of things to do (and ways to play), is phenomenal.

  • i don't know if anyone has traded any switch games to EB Games in the past but if they have, EB have a no regret policy where you can buy them back for the trade price you got for them, i am going to buy back 2 of my previously traded games then swap them at JB HiFi for Donkey Kong Bananza, it is going to cost me $57, could even work out cheaper for other people

    • I tried this about 4 months ago. The employee had never heard of it lol.

Also my games werent in stock in store and i believe they said they couldn't have them delivered from other stores.

If it works though, great !

      • I did this with Kirby recently having traded it in three years ago. My local store had it in stock but they needed to manually look for the transaction in their system and had trouble seeing it. I ended up showing them the trade-in price from my EB World account on my phone and they put it through as a price match.

After all that, the Switch 2 version is a paid upgrade and not even out yet. But I'll be ready I guess.

  • If you have Prime use APP20 to get it down to $69 with free delivery too. Gotta use the Amazon App.

I was gonna hold out till next week to get the game but screw it decided to get it now as they'll probably put it back up to $99 by next week.

    • APP20 didn't work for me

      • Use the Amazon app from the Google Play Store or the iOS store.
Then add the game to the cart then checkout.

        • Gotta be an Amazon Prime member.

        Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.mSh…

Signed up a new acc and the code didn't work for me neither. Chatted with an online agent and they said they will give me $30 credits after I receive my order. Then I asked for 40 and it was a deal. Now I will wait for my game arriving this evening and go back to them to get my $40 credit.

        • Wow nice! Amazon Support is awesome when it comes to stuff like this.

What's even more awesome is Amazon doesn't price gouge like Coles and Woolworths does. You can find several grocery items on there still being sold 2x/3x cheaper than the prices at Coles and Woolworths for example - 170g bag of doritos on Amazon - $2.80 / Coles/Woolworths same item $5…

You could use those credits towards some free grocery items lol

          • +1

@RocketToSpace: Yea I know, how good is that. I think I will use the credit to preorder the new Pokemon game.

  • Due to Nintendo only making 64gb carts for Switch 2 we might see a lot more of this.

    Shadow Labyrinth Switch 1.
Includes a free upgrade to Shadow Labyrinth for Nintendo Switch 2
The upgrade will allow the game to run at 4K resolution, 60 frames per second on Switch 2. Once the cartridge is in the Switch 2 system, it will download the switch 2 version to be played like a game key card (internet connection required).

    • +1

Playing Xbox 360 discs on an Xbox One/Series X works like this as well. The disc acts as an authenticator as the console downloads a version that runs natively.

  • -3

does mig flash cartridge works on switch 2?

  • +2

    This game is a banga

  • +1

This game is amazing, a masterpiece of fun!

  • Is the gameplay repetitive?

  • +1

Sweet, $69 with APP20 for Amazon Business too

  • Grabbed one for $79. Thanks OP

  • Got one thanks!

If I can resell in a few months for 40 or 50 clams then it'll be all the sweeeeter

  • Hey guys, just confirming I pre-ordered for $98 and got in contact with chat and Amazon knocked off the difference for me as well. Thanks for the heads up guys.

  • -2

… 11:35PM I got my package from Amazon - 1 hour and 30 minutes AFTER the due time. I only just found out now at the time of me typing this comment. Left a note asking them to knock on my door then leave it at my door… seems the knocking part was ignored. Anyone from 11:35 PM to now could have stolen my package.

Do better Amazon real pathetic. Should never have gotten rid of Australia Post or StarTrack as delivery couriers.

  • I appreciated Amazon refunded the preorder difference, and I also asked for a credit given they only delivered it on Monday (ie. a few days after launch day).
