[NSW, QLD, SA] Switch to AGL Special Saver Plan & Stay for 90 Days, Get $200 Bill Credit for Electricity, $200 for Gas @ AGL

1420

For my area, the plan rates seem better than what's on offer via AGL's standard website but still falls short compared to other energy providers.

Might be a good offer to take then switch after 90 days, and it appears that existing customers can switch to this plan as well.

MOD: Original link removed as per AGL's request.

only showing $75 credit for me. (SA)

    • where are you seeing this? im also from SA and on the plan info link it says 200$ per utility

      • +1

top and center of the website, showing $75/$75 for gas/elec for new customers in SA

        • interesting.. my top and centre is showing this…

That’s a $200 credit per fuel (electricity and gas) when you sign up to AGL Special Saver online and stay for 90 days.

Credit offer for NSW, QLD and SA residential customers.

          • @Plnguyen20: never mind, originally i opened a new tab and went to AGL site and showed me the above, i just clicked the link and it shows the $200 deal, weird but whatever. ive just signed up

  • +2

I just signed up for $200 per fuel type in NSW

  • Can we combine this with Econnex gift card/cashback offers?

    • Good question. Does anyone know?

      • Guessing yes but I never got it last time. Would rather get $200 from AGL direct as credit.

        • +3

Econ nex only has the "Smart Saver" plan available, not the "Special Saver" in this deal.

  • +7

Don’t you only get the $$$ after 90 days so you’ll need to stay and wait for your next bill (or two) or actually use the credit?

    • correct

    • -2

It's not $$$ - it's Bill Credit to pay AGL BILLS. Worthless if you leave.

    • Yeah, so pay the first 3 months, then use your credits for another month or two, so it's like $200 for the first 4-6 months.

Not as lucrative as the Econnex promos where you get the gift card after 45 days.

    • Also, aren't there one time costs to connect new service and disconnect old one?

      • +2

No. Disconnection and connection fees are generally just for physical disconnection/connections, not simply churning providers.

    • I was thinking we could use the bill credit for the first quarterly bill, given a quarterly bill cycle has the bill issued after the first 90 days, and is due a few weeks after issued. This would give enough time for the credit to be applied.

Not sure on this one though.

  • Source of offer? I do not see it on agl website.

  • +2

can anyone confirm its applicable for existing AGL customer switching to this plan?

    • +4

I have moved to this plan as an existing customer. Got the $200 discount for electricity and gas each

      • Can I ask how long it took to reflect the $200 credit please?

    • +3

can confirm I iust changed and called the call centre. They were even not aware of this promotion but was able to verify I will be getting $200 each as a credit after 3 month

      • SA based. But should be same

      • I ask through chat ask them to change but they said for new customer only. And said if I see it online then apply through online. I am confused . So will I have it or not since I am existing customer .

So you change the plan through the website using the deal link?

  • Damn, I only just signed up for $150 per fuel! :,)

    • Me too

    • Same but didnt receive the 150 yet.

Could someone confirm if we change agl plans we still get the $200 instead

      Op post below

it appears that existing customers can switch to this plan as well.

  • I mean, my provider (Ampol Energy) got bought out by these guys anyway

    • Oh is that why I couldn't access any of my account details and previous bills on the Ampol website and app recently?

  • -2

I'd avoid AGL if possible. A lack of ethics to make ones skin crawl.

  • 6c More peak charge but 69c lower supply charge…
    But $200 in 90 days…
    Decisions

    • +5

      nice.

take the $200 and move to another company after that

      • +4

        NO!!

BILL Credit is provided AFTER you stay 90 days.

BILL Credit can only be used to pay your future AGL Bills.
It's not transferrable or refundable when you leave AGL!
It's worth nothing as soon as you leave AGL!

So you can't just "take the $200 and move to another company after that"!!

You will have to stick around longer than 90 days to use up that BILL Credit on future AGL Bills!

First 90 days are at regular tarrif with NO BILL Credit!

        • +4

Wtf, you obviously use the credit then move to another company after that (?!)

          • -1

@bdl: It would mean paying full tarrif until the Bill Credit is provided after 90 days .

In my case that would take months to use up.

            Certainly not as you stated.
You can't take the AGL BILL CREDIT anywhere!!

            • @INFIDEL: $200 lasts about a month or so for me - so works for my situation :)

I was never taking the credit anywhere?!

              • @bdl: So you would need to pay more In first 3 months & stay another month to use up your Bill Credit.
I would need to stay at least 6 months to use up the Bill Credit.

Not exactly as you & OP implied!!

Through Econnex & other Deals here, I switch electricity retailers about twice in 90 days for more actual money (as MasterCards, Rewards points, etc) than this Bill Credit offers.

And receive up to $200 Bill Credit each time, applied as soon as I switch!

Effectively haven't paid for electricity in 5 years using far better Deals. (All electric aircon house, no solar.)

                • @INFIDEL: Do you ever encounter any issues when switching so often? Or you just have to make sure you wait out any exclusion periods?

                  • @bdl: Always received the incentives to switch for years in Deals.

Retailers may limit Bill Credit to first time you switch to them. Got it many times with PowerShop. But in comments, seems now limited to first time.

                • +2

                  @INFIDEL:

I would need to stay at least 6 months to use up the Bill Credit.

So you use $33.33 a month ($200 in 6 months). That’s about $133 billed quarterly for electricity only. This is all without solar too. That sounds unbelievable

Effectively haven't paid for electricity in 5 years using far better Deals. (All electric aircon house, no solar.)

At $133 a quarter based on above calculations that sounds unbelievable

                  • -4

@freeb1e4me: Your comment is unbelievably wrong!!

You exaggerate your calculations to back up your false claim😜

                    I commented

I would need to stay at least 6 months to use up the Bill Credit…

                    To which you falsely claimed…

So you use $33.33 a month
                    ($200 in 6 months).

Wrong! Where did you learn maths??

Your calculated estimate of my monthly bills is half what it should be!!
(I use $200 in up to 3 months, not 6!).

My bills are less than $66.66 to $100 a month, before incentives, rebates, discounts etc..

No wonder you & likely others are paying to much!!
If you can't do simple calculations!

Clearly You do not understand this Deal!

Have to stay first 3 months in this Deal at full price to qualify for $200 credit.
Then I would need to stay the following 2-3 months to spend that $200 credit!

This Deal is too long & expensive for me!
Would likely miss out on far better Deals - being locked in to gain $200 credit after 3 months of full price in this Deal!!!

Retailers like PowerShop give $200 BILL CREDIT when you sign up. No 3 month wait. You can easily leave when the credit is used up!

                  • -3

@freeb1e4me: Unbelievable - if you are paying far too much & ignoring better energy offers to switch🤔

True… My electricity bill is a bit low - for a person living in warmer Qld🌞 (No gas)
No winter heating, limited summer aircon.
(Bills are ~$66.66 to $100 a month, before incentives, rebates, discounts etc.)

I switch regularly for the incentives, through Deals here!
Received 2 x $200 MasterCards in incentives to switch so far this year. With another payment about to be sent. More due about every 120 days after switching.
That alone pays for electricity this year.

Plus hundreds in Bill Credits from retailers this year.

Received $1200 refund of unused Cost of Living Rebate this year when switched. ($1k from Qld Govt which has ended.)

And ~$1/d Qld Seniors electricity Rebate

Used to teach how to reduce energy consumption. A handy skill. So have had very low bills for many years before knowing about these Deals.

Now get electricity effectively free through incentives to switch & Bill Credits!
                    Govt rebates are pure profit💰

    • Yeah, I am very confuse with all these plans

      • No need to be - to take advantage of this deal, just sign up, wait 3x30 days (three bills) you get the credit - then start looking for a new provider while using up the $200 credit at these rates.

In my situation the rates of this offer are cheaper than my current AGL ones and are nearly as cheap as the cheapest (Red Energy, Ausgrid, Sydney). I had planned to move to Red Energy next week but instead will delay by 90 days + however long it takes up to use the $200.

        • +1

interesting this - im with Origin now and have signed up for Red as their online rates were better, but then they emailed me about 5 days later telling me that rates they can offer me are different - and they changed me from single tariff to time of use and added peak charge which I HATE,
I questioned this and they said it depends on the energy provider but how come I am on single rate with Origin who use the same provider…
Red said they can request to change me after a year…..needles to say I cancelled them and this deal now seems good - Im waiting for a battery though so in 3 months i might be at $0 but a bargain is a bargain!

          • @botchie: I think ausgrid in NSW are switching everyone to TOU - but some providers (red, AGL) are still keeping some flatrate plans (even though they are paying TOU to the distributor). Lucky you found out during the cooling off period! :)

  • +2

Thanks OP - I'll churn from Powership who I signed up to in late May via Econnex. Have met the minim 45 days now so great timing!

Note: AGL may exclude accounts from receiving more than one upfront credit per fuel in any 12-month period.

    • +2

Can anyone confirm this 12 month exclusion period?

  • +2

So you have to pay full price for 90 days and then you get $200 bill credit? That's not great.

  • +1

Mmmm. $400 bill credit. That's 2 years of gas and electricity bills for me.

    • That's 2 years of gas and electricity bills for me.

Is it still 2 years with the 1c solar fit that AGL offer ( or at least do for my location)?

If you can manage $8/mth electricity bills with the current fit rates that's mighty impressive

  • +4

Or powershop or engie. Both offering $200 on first bill so no getting shafted while you wait 90 days. I use these promos during winter to offset the extra heating and then the rest of the year is usually covered by the solar

    • +2

Yes I switched my gas to Engie recently for $200 bill credit (no waiting) + $150 Econnex voucher. Waiting on churning to Powershop via Econnex for $200 bill credit + whatever voucher. Again no waiting.

      • Yeh. Prices/deals are changing on the daily and unless you're auditing your rates every month or two then you are likely not getting the best deal.

All the companies running these free credits etc are only buttering you up to then shaft you shortly afterwards

    • Is this available in SA? I just did a quick search and could only find the credit available for signing up to their Virtual Power Plant (VPP) which is not applicable for my situation.

  • anyone having issues logging it to their account (if they had one already) ?

    • No but I may have got a bonus in the last 12 months :(

  • I can only see gas, not electricity. Seeing that Feed in Tariff is not provided, assuming that this is for non solar systems.

    • It’s 1c/Kwh FIT

  • +1

Just changed my existing AGL gas plan, this new one is cheaper than my current one! I don't bother churning gas since it takes ages to get it done. Perhaps I should start doing it

    • Why does gas take ages?

      • I guess because it's manually read not like smart meter for electricity?

  • Does anyone know if you lose any unused credit if you leave after 90 days, but haven't used $400 worth of energy?

  • +2

Might be a good offer to take then switch after 90 days

Totally misleading to put that in Deal Description!! It's not true!

You receive nothing if you switch immediately after 90 days!

Bill Credit is only provided AFTER staying 90 days!
You can't use an AGL Bill Credit AFTER you leave AGL!

You will need to stay with AGL until you use up the Bill Credit, or lose it!

    • Perhaps OP can edit it to say:

Switch after using the bill credit (received after staying 90 days)

      • -1

Seems many mistakenly see Bill Credit as cash. It's worthless if people switch from AGL in 90 days as suggested in Deal!

Like some others, I have years of experience in energy Deals here.
Effectively haven't paid for electricity in 5 years using far better Deals. (All electric aircon house, no solar.)

All my warnings to be cautious are being negged.
        So it's buyer beware.
        Bye

        • -1

Who cares about the negs. You are absolutely correct.

As a churner, I'll give this deal a miss. Origin apply the credit within 48hrs of signing on. Doesn't make too much difference with a 90 day billing cycle. But you really want monthly billing and a credit upfront.

          • @tunzafun001: Which origin deal you are refering to? I need to switch away from powershop as i have use up my bonus credit with them, thanks

            • -1

@bargainfinder: Origin emailed me and asked me to come back. Offered $200.

Their standard offer is $100. With one big switch it's $150.
              I said $200 + 10c FIT on first 10kw export.
              Done deal.

          • @tunzafun001: As per my previous comment this could work well for gas and electricity if you don’t pay your bills for the first 2 months and pay it all at once you get the credits.

            • @Gotchas: Yep I agree. I just move < 3months.
I would ask for monthly billing and $200.

  • Thanks OP,

Was with AGL for my elec and gas already and these new rates were a heap less on all levels. (In SA) + $400 can't complain!

  • Thanks OP also already with AGL for Gas and rates cheaper (QLD) plus the $200.

  • +2

Check the rates in your confirmation email. They were much higher than claimed via the link for me, I was so disappointed!!

    • Does SA have different energy wholesalers?

      • I am in SA. I am comparing rates after entering address so can't see why it would be different.

        • I should add I was targetted for this offer via email.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Still get the credit if you have had another AGL credit within the past 12 months?

    • +3

      saw this in their TnC
"AGL may exclude accounts from receiving more than one upfront credit per fuel in any 12-month period. "

  • 1c feed in tariff LOL no

    • +2

Try half a cent fit with powershop lol

  • Is TOU tariff optional?

We have an interval meter, so it is capable of TOU but we were never on TOU plans with Energy Australia.

    Peak usage is very dear.

    • Tou should only be used if you have solar batteries to act as a buffer during peak.

      • Is TOU optional? Or mandated?

        • Depends on your meter. Generally optional but some companies only offer it as a single option

          • @15KING: Thanks. We don't like TOU because majority of our usage is in peak window and cost is significantly higher in TOU model.

Few years back we requested Energy Australia to swap the interval meter to a smart meter, then called it off after learning that it will be TOU after the meter upgrade.

We have done some cost modelling to install solar, ROI takes 6-8 years, seems too long for something that degrades over time.

  • gonna sign up after i use my powershop credits

  • +1

Can you opt for quarterly bills or maybe don’t pay for 2 months and cop the $10 late fees

    • There was an option for quarterly bills when I signed up.

  • Guys, does anyone know if FIT carries over when you switch providers?

I'm with Origin with their grandfathered 48c FIT, so would obviously like to keep that.

    • 48c is the gov feed in. AGL will tell you that you aren't entitled to anymore from them on top. That is a lie, feel free to report them if they do. They did this to my parents.

So you will get the 48c + whatever they advertise on top. I move around. I still get 10c/kwh for the first 10kw, then 4c/ kWh there after. I'm guessing AGL will probably give you a flat 1 - 4c / kWh on top of the 48c.

      • Cool, thanks for that. I'll try and get something in writing from them too.

      • Who's offering the 10c/kwh?

    • +1

Holy smokes. That would put me in so much profit every month. You must have been pretty early with solar. Lucky you!
