  • any deals for i7/15" laptops?

  • +21

The price is decent-ish (would cost at least $1350 in parts), but your choices are kinda bad IMO:
    1. The B75 chipset only supports 16x/4x in crossfire, so the second graphics card is somewhat limited in how much it helps.
    2. I wouldn't dare trust a crossfire system to a cheap PSU (I'm guessing this is an Aywun 750W Elite).
    3. A 64GB SSD is barely enough for the OS & general apps. A 120GB isn't much more at least allows a couple of games or larger apps to be installed.
    4. Having only a 500GB 5,400 rpm drive is kinda limiting in storage terms these days, plus it's slow and given you've only got a 64GB SSD it means all your apps & games will be loading off a slow drive.
    5. An i7 is mostly useless for gaming over an i5.

There are certainly worse designed systems posted here, but I still wouldn't recommend this build for someone looking for a $1500 gaming system.

Incidentally, it's also misleading to claim it's '6GB graphics' given the data is mirrored across the GPUs.

    • Haha, sorry Carbon, was typing while you posted.

      • Yes - get origin and steam games on there and your 64GB SSD is soon gone.

        • -3

Then upgrade the SSD for a larger model :) We do offer upgrades in store, you can change any part of the machine you like!

    • +1

      Hi Carbon,
noted and fixed as above and below. SSD we will leave, if customers would like a larger model we do offer the upgrade option in store.

  • +5

    Bit of a weird mix.

Why an i7 for a gaming PC?
Gaming PC would be fine with 8GB RAM
Non overclocking MB and CPU (with no aftermarket cooler) - i realise this is a preference, but would be better spent here than RAM and i7
128GB SSD would probably make more sense. Along with a 2tb hard drive, especially not a 5400RPM drive
Haven't checked in a while, but pretty sure ATI/AMD micro-stuttering on Crossfire still isn't great. Especially when a single 7970 would get plenty of performance, and max out games for a fair while to come.

Not saying this is a bad deal, didn't check pricing, just not sure its suited to its purpose.

  • +1

About $1450 in value there (from quick look at staticice), so good value, but as above, not the best use of the money. Swap i7 for i5. Get a better PSU and motherboard. I would say that the graphics cards in cross fire are rather overkill, maybe stick with the one. Go to a 1TB 7200RPM HDD and at least a 128GB SSD.

My brother got this system. Will pretty much handle any game thrown at it with high FPS.

The cable management looks really clean as well.

    • Much more suitable, especially since it includes an OS for that price

    • Yep, PCCaseGear builds are generally very well composed.

  • I got the MrPCGeek deal earlier with the $350 7970 from esold.com.au

    CPU: i5-3470
    RAM: 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
    Hard Drive: 2TB 7200RPM SATA3 Hard Drive ($25 upgrade)
SSD: Sandisk Extreme 120gb ($98)from shoppingexpress
    Motherboard: Z77 Motherboard ($29 upgrade)
    Graphics: Gigabyte OC 7970 ($355.95)
Optical Drive: 22x DVD-RW Burner Drive
Sound: 5.1 Channel High Definition Audio
ATX Case: Generic Black/Silver Tower Case
PSU: Thermaltake lite 700w PSU ($79 upgrade)
Front Audio & USB Port x6 (4x rear, 2x front)
    Network: On-board NIC (10/100/1000 Mbit)
Operation System: No Windows Operating System
    Help: Technical Support
Warranty: 2 Years Parts & Labour Warranty (Return-To-Base)

Paid $591 for the PC from MrPCGeek including shipping, $355.95 for the video card and $98 for the SSD.

Total was $1044.95 for the whole system above which i think was pretty good value. Only bad is the case doesn't have USB3 ports at the front but i can live with that for the price i paid.

If OP could build something like that, i think it would be much better value than the $1500 system.

  • +1

Very Poor choices IMO, much better value can be had for much less.

    • Hi Mikeologos,
Please provide an example then and we'll take it onboard for our next build.

  • +4

My - is for the badly chosen motherboard, in combination with the un-responsive Rep. This isn't a place to just chuck up a free ad and leave. You need to pay attention and acknowledge what people have suggested.

    • Un-responsive rep is due to busy rep in store. We've had a flat out day, but i've read through the above and made immediate changes to the deal. New higher motherboard for the same price should solve the GFX issue.

  • I agree with kulprit and CarbonTwelve's comments, but I'd like to applaud these guys for trying. It's a decent price for those parts plus assembly.

I encourage them to check out said comments and offer some other builds. I recommend they put one together and put some videos on youtube of them playing recent games at max settings, or at least post benchmarks.

(Also, I understand the reason for going i7 and saying 6GB of GPU RAM: it's hard to communicate to buyers who don't know much about technology why it costs more than other PCs).

    • +1

Even if it's hard to communicate to non-tech people, IMO it's still a bad idea to mislead them. Besides, this is OzBargain, where you're posting a gaming PC. I suspect the majority of people reading this bargain have at least a basic understanding of computer hardware.

    • +1

      Hi mgowen,
thanks for the +, we've upgraded the m/b at no additional charge to make this machine more attractive and offer the full GFX card power.

      • -1

shouldve done that in the first place

  • +3

I dont know why anyone puts a computer on OzBargain. Every single model is shot down in flames. Not saying they do/dont deserve it, but its a tough crowd!

    • Well, maybe if they actually listened to our feedback we wouldn't keep having this problem.

      • +1

        Hi Prospective,
Feedback noted and changes made. New m/b for the same price should please the mobs.

  • -1

Vision Tech should stop advertise these full system on OzBargain!!! SPAM!!!!

    • +3

look at all of their previous posts, most were ok deals with a few great deals. not sure how you get the idea to neg this deal and call it a spam..

As suggested by CarbonTwelve and Kulprit who have posted long reasoning why they are not upping the deal, its not the most sufficient mix of hardware, but for the parts that is included, it is not a bad price.

I certainly would like to encourage the reps to read what is being said, and take it on board for their next deal.

      • Hi Chivalry,

we've gone one better and upgraded the m/b in this deal for the same price. Thanks for the feedback without being an eWarrior :P

  • +3

wow. you guys are harsh. this pc can be used easily as a good workstation. the case is hideous but the value isn't bad.

    • +1

If it was intended as a rendering/editing workstation you still wouldn't criple the second GPU with a 4x slot, and you wouldn't get just a 64GB SSD and 5,400rpm HDD, not to mention the cheap PSU. Besides, it's clearly advertised and intended as a gaming system.

      • Hi Carbon,
see rep edit in OP, new motherboard has been offered for the same price.

    • Hi THEMAN_AUS,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :) Once this case is lit up it really is quite a nice looking unit with plenty of space for expansion.

In addition to this, we've also upgraded the m/b for the same price.

      • green neons doesnt make your computer faster

  • -2

in addition to the other comments I agree with, this isnt Oztradingpost.com where you can hit and run

    • +2

      Hi wholesaleturbos,
This was no hit and run, we've simply had a busy day in store. We only posted the deal @ 12:30PM and i'm back at 4:00PM to see the feedback and comments. Customers have made suggestions for improvements, we've made these at no additional charge.

  • -1

Going by just cost of the parts this deal isn't bad at all

But to create a PC with them leaves a lot to be desired

    • So what exactly is your reason for the neg?

  • +6

    Hi guys,

We do customize PCs in store so if any changes are desired we can easily arrange these for you to suit any custom request.

Alot of the comments above are in regards to the motherboard used, note that even though higher motherboards are available the board selected runs all of the hardware provided with the space for further expansion of HDD's, ODD's and PCI cards.

It is easy for competitors above to choose lower CPU's, lower RAM, lower cases and then throw in a higher motherboard and claim its better value but the performance offered on our build for the dollar spent is great.

If you're really a non-believer, we have one set up on display with Crysis Warhead installed and all are welcome to come down and try it out and experience how well this PC handles the game as an example of its power.

Yes the second GFX card runs through a 4x slot, but we have tried this PC with one single 7950 GFX card and then a crossfire configuration and the difference in the two is quite noticeable and impressive which is why we have left it with the two. For an extra $30-$50 we can even upgrade the motherboard higher and give our customers even greater performance than the base build advertised.

And for the record to "Ronaldo" who seems to be leading the hate as a rep from competitor IJK, after spending a painful 25 minutes going through your prehistoric website I have priced up the exact same PC through you, including your $85 labour cost and substituting for a lower size and speed SSD as you did not have the same part, you end up charging $1573 for the same thing so we're still managing to beat you on price point even if you can suggest better parts to use.

To please the mob, I will now go through this PC and upgrade the motherboard to one with a higher speed for the second graphics card, at no additional charge for our customers - which will make the price gap even greater after we spend the extra money offering our customers a free upgrade.

    • +1

In addition to this too, we are also including Dirt Showdown 2 for free as above and if you order online before Australia day you do also receive a free Australia Day Gift Pack valued @ $99 so on top of the PC there's freebies to be scored.

    • "It is easy for competitors above to choose lower CPU's, lower RAM, lower cases and then throw in a higher motherboard and claim its better value but the performance offered on our build"

The point is that there's no performance advantage in gaming with the higher CPU and higher RAM, but there is a performance advantage in a better motherboard.

Great to hear you're offering a free upgrade for a better motherboard. If you can update the OP with that it'll get a + from me.

      Edit: Done. Good motherboard choice.

  • +3

    New motherboard - same price.
    Asrock Z77-PRO4-M.
    ASRock / Z77 / 4 x DDR3 / 1 x PCI-E3.0 x 16 / 4 x SATA3 / 4 x USB3.0 / HDMI / D-Sub / DVI-D / GBLAN / RAID / mATX

Ronaldo - your price is now $1607 for the same build we are offering FYI.

    • +4

I hate to spoil things but I still wouldn't use that MB with a crossfire setup, the second card will still be running in x4 mode. You'd be looking at something like the Asrock Z77-Extreme4 to fully utilise the cards, or even the Extreme4-M to run them in PCIE-3.0 x8/x8.

      • Whoops, I thought it was an Extreme 4-M. You're right, the Pro4-M will still be running in 16x/4x. Sorry VisionTech but + removed - the new MB doesn't change the situation :/

        • +3

          NEW M/B V2
          Z77-EXTREME4-M - ASRock / Z77 / 4 x DDR3 / 2 x PCI-E3.0 x 16 / 4 x SATA3 / 4 x USB3.0 / HDMI / D-Sub / DVI-D / GBLAN / RAID / mATX.

          Doooone.

        • Nice. I didn't realise but I can't add my + back in because I had revoked it :(

          Sorry…

        • +6

It's alright, we can still be friends.

  • +2

FYI guys - if you really are happy with an i5 CPU we can also DOWNGRADE the PC and make it cheaper with your selected i5 model for better value.

  • Starting to look like a deal. But that 5400rpm HDD has no business in that rig.

    • The 5400rpm hdd makes a joke of this system. Whack in a 2tb 7200rpm (which is what $40 more expensive?) and you are looking a lot better…

Also like others I'd prefer a single GPU solution.

I like the i7 choice. SSD could be bigger…

      • I agree it's not ideal, but it's not the end of the world. I regularly play games on a laptop with just a 5,400 rpm drive, and yes it takes a few more seconds for games to load, but once they are loaded it really doesn't matter.

  • Anything deals you guys got on systems which are less game-y?

  • +14

I'm going to expire this deal and make a new system from the ground up. Stay tuned folks.

  • -7

Very poor value, components are not worth the price at all. 64gb ssd? Seriously?

  • Well if the new deal is any better I'd be getting one and since you guys are in the Fairfield area, even better. I will definitely stay tuned. lol

  • +1

Can we ban ronaldo? He's is clearly trying to make his business (www.ijk.com.au) look better via stealth

    • Competitor's comments have been unpublished. Please report further offences.

      • +1

Didn't know I could do that, will keep it in mind. Thanks moocher

        • From our merchant FAQ:

Posting unfavourable comments about a competitor is not permitted. Additionally, posting links to your products/deals in a competitors thread is also not acceptable. Both are considered as being conduct unbecoming and will invoke a penalty.

Reps and users can report such behaviour.

  • No way am I inviting any of you guys around to try my Grandmas home baked lamingtons on Australia day!

  • Meh my grandma makes better lamingtons anway

Just went on www.ijk.com.au for the very first time and have to agree, it does look prehistoric lol. Geez for a pc store that really does need an update

  • -1

Actually not THAT bad, if it had a better PSU and dropped the second card. SLI/Crossfire is a waste of time and money. Just get the best single GPU card you can afford. CPU and chipset are fine - I went for a 3770 and a B75 board for my gaming box. Mobo's make no difference to performance anymore. And what do you need for a gaming mobo? Right socket and PCIE 16 Gen 3. And yes, the extra bit of grunt of an i7 always helps. You also don't need to overclock. That stock i7 will murder any game.

Oh, that upgraded mobo is crap. SLI in a mATX mobo? Can anyone say HOT?

    • What does mATX vs ATX for the motherboard have to do with heat?
