HP Victus 15.6" FHD Gaming Laptop: Intel i5-13420H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, RTX 4050 6GB $879.20 Delivered @ HP Official Store eBay

920
HPJL20

Looks like Marshmellow (Other user) was right - the 3050 was a ripoff, so was the 4050 at its previous pricepoint. This has now been further reduced to 879. Surely now it's worth it at this price-point.

Ain't a 4060 for $800 but somewhat close.

    Cant digest the specs unfortunately

  • +9

    Seriously… 6GB 4050 Nvidia in 2025 OMG.

    • Yeah :(

    • +14

      Its 800 bucks not 2800…

    • +1

It's a 1080p screen so 6Gb will be fine for almost all games.

  • -1

All I can say is: Indeed, eBay (Plus).

  • +1

Save yourself the cash i’d say. Sub-par specs.

  • +15

    Now waiting for an $800 5060 😂

    • Almost pull the trigger but rather to wait after seeing your message!

  • +1

    thats gewd

    At least its a 4050

  • +2

how heavy is it? Found on JB hifi - 2.29 kg

    • +2

I saw that weight too, and it seems too heavy. Maybe that is the boxed weight.
      EDIT: Amazon says 2.3kg too.

      • Not sure if this includes the bulky charger's weight

      • +4

It's a 15" gaming laptop, around 2.3 kg seems right.

  • +2

NO USB 4 or Thunderbolt and it uses DDR4

    • -2

USB is called all sorts of weird names so idk if no USB 4 really means anything

Lack of thunderbolt is a shame.

DDR4 could be preferable as finding old 16gb sticks is pretty cheap

      • +2

What do you mean weird names and means nothing? What "weird names" is USB 4.0 known by?

        • +1

USB 3.2 Gen 1 is also known as SuperSpeed USB, USB 3.1 Gen 1, and USB 3.0. Other related versions include USB 3.2 Gen 2 (SuperSpeed+ USB 10 Gbps) and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (SuperSpeed+ USB 20 Gbps).

This could possibly not relate to USB 4.0 but anyways whatever USB was doing a couple years ago was ridiculous

  • +31

Stop the hate guys, its not like its costing 1600 aud. You will get what you pay for, and for sub 900 its not exactly a bad laptop

    • +17

Unfortunately this place is full of clueless muppets claiming deals like this are crap because everything should be a spec level up for the same (or less) money

    • -7

This is a decent deal imo. Doesn't beat the $800 for RTX 4060 but ok enough. The dumb $800 for an RTX 3050 with people defending it is the real brain rot .

      • +7

        The mythical $800 4060

        • -6

Mythical eh? If I didn't listen to myself, I'd have bought

          1. An evatech 7800X3D RTX 5080 with desktop for $3.4k eww

          2. An RTX 4060 laptop for $1.5k eww

          3. An RTX 3050 for $900 eww

          4. An RTX 5070 Ti laptop for $3.2k eww

          5. A 13" MacBook Air M3 16gb for $1.7k eww

          6. An techfast 9070 XT deal for $2.2k eww

          7. A nebula 7800X3D + 5080 deal for $3.1k eww

          Notice I didn't hit techfast on their 9800X3D? Hmm…

@marshmall0w2: You don't usually make any sense, but this comment definitely makes no sense.

            • -3

@wombat81: It was supposed to be for the other thread but I clicked on this thread instead.

              • +6

@marshmall0w2: It doesn't make any sense in that thread either. No surprises there.

          • +2

@marshmall0w2: If you listened to yourself you'd still be calling this e-waste but nope, now you think it is a 'decent deal'. 5 weeks ago - Quote '4050 is just e-waste, is my point.' https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/911879

            • -2

@Elyxar: Okay. Two things: One, yes xx50 are e-waste is still true, just as I've called old iPhones being sold e-wastes. Two, I also said that deal was a bad deal.

I'm right in both. Plenty would agree xx50 are e-waste. Plenty would agree $1.3 for an RTX 4050 laptop is a bad deal.

But guess what, e-wastes can be a good deal in context.

            • @Elyxar: I think the idea here is for the price, this laptop with 4050 is OK.
but 4050 in general is a waste. Might as well save up and go for a better GPU.

That is the idea. Don't get too literal by saying 4050 is a waste so nobody should buy at all but you're saying it is decent or like the comment above saying e-waste = $0.

              Come on…

              • @Brakus: No need to respond to these insincere shills haha

                • @marshmall0w2: I'm not gonna lie, I was on wombat's side initially in the 3050 comment chain. But Wombat didn't know what to expect on this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/911879 when you clearly said it was bad. And now, I know, it IS bad. You can literally get a 4060 1tb laptop https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-v-156inch-i513420… for the same price.

So tbh, I can see you call out bad deals so I'm inclined to agree with you. Though I still think 4060gb $800 is unobtainable, I see where you're coming from.

                  • @Chawklates: Once you've entered the gate, you won't ever look at electronics deal the same way again

                  • +1

@Chawklates: I can see where he's coming from too. In fact I generally vaguely agree with his views of deals that are posted. I did agree with him that the 3050 deal was bad, for the record. It's just when he offers zero info to back up his bad deal claims, it doesn't help anyone.

Then when people ask for more info he comes out with something dumb like wait for a 4060 to be $800. Then he wonders why people get frustrated with him/her and goes off on these cooked conspiracy theories that "affiliate marketers" are down voting him.

              • @Brakus: I think you mistook a waste of money for e-waste. Marshmallow literally said and I quoted '4050 is just e-waste' his words. Which means it has no use case and should be recycled. 4050 is below his personal minimum standard and everyone else should also abide by it. Which of course now he says this is a decent deal so I guess his standard changed today and e-waste is anything below 4050??? Wait, no he still thinks xx50 is e-waste. Perhaps he doesn't know what e-waste is?

Dont think you can go wrong at this price. I've jumped on it. Be interesting to know how many of the haters actually buy one🤔

    • +9

      I've jumped on it.

      Did it break?

      • I'll let you know when it stops working👍

      • that explains it being heavier than expected !

  • Decent for the price/gaming with DLSS tbh.

Wouldn't get if you want something "future-proof" for gaming, but it will get the job done if you like to dabble in something every now and again

  • Is this any good for 4k video editing sub $1k or do I keep looking?

    • +3

If it needs to be a laptop and it needs to be brand new this is probably as good as it'll get

    • +2

That budget is not really compatible with 4k at all, but if that's truly your $ limitation then yes you won't get any better.

      • +1

Thank you both, was trying to see if I can spend the least amount but yeah will increase the budget

        • +1

~$1600ish will usually get you a lot closer to mid-end than entry level. Anything under $1k is basically the option to capture grannies and students who are forced to buy something, or old model stuff they need to get rid of asap.

  • Obviously not particularly current nor highly specced, but it's decent at this price of you're on a tight budget and want something with some gaming ability.

  • +1

$98 back from TRS! Under 700 baby!

    • Under $800 maybe?

      • +1

        Lol yes sorry bad math

  • +2

Would this be a good buy for non-gamers, just for general purpose use like emails ,YouTube, surfing around?

We'd like a new laptop of decent quality and for less than $900 this seems pretty reasonable without too much compromise?

    • +9

No. If the graphics card is of no interest to you, you could get something better for the same money.

    • +1

I got my son a Dell G15 16gb Ryzen 5 with a GTX3050 for $650 when GoodGuys were selling them cheap last year.
It's runs all the games he wants to play but it gets hot and the fans blow like crazy all the time.
May as well just get a tablet if that's all you're doing.

      • +1

Yeah my old 3070TI in my Razer will also cook eggs if I play Elden Ring at 1440p for 10 minutes. Probably quicker than using my induction cooktop.

    • +1

Compromise would many be speakers and battery life. Gaming laptops have really crap battery life overall. The speakers of cheaper gaming laptops are really quiet. Much quieter than your phone. Both my old Acer gaming laptop with 1650 and current gaming laptop with rtx 4060 has really crap speakers. Way way quieter than my lenovo yoga laptop.

    • Thanks all and noted. Prefer a laptop & mouse over a tablet but might wait it out a bit then.

Have to look into Iris X graphics, I thought it was better to have a separate graphics card even for general purpose use but that might be because I haven't bought a laptop for a few years.

      • +3

Have to look into Iris X graphics

Modern iGPUs nowadays like Intel's Iris Xe and AMD's Radeon chips are 100% more than capable for everyday use. The higher end APUs like AMD's HX series have more GPU grunt today than the dedicated desktop GPUs of yesteryear.

      • Aren't Arcs better than Iris? Might as well go for Core ultra cpu

  • +1

or this for $799 if you don't need the graphics card but want a bigger screen?

    • +4

Nah it would need to be a 4060 for $800.

  • battery life is about 45 minutes gaming, 1 1/2 hour normal usage, it has battery drain issues from what ive read

    • +2

      goes for most gaming units

      • if your not gaming, it should use the onboard graphics instead of the graphics card to save power, then switch back if you open a game, we're in 2025.. gaming it takes 40w, normal usage should be using 10w but its actually using 30w

    • Mate I can't even play Roblox on my Razer from two years ago without the battery draining in 45 minutes

  • 2.9KG, oof

Better hope you have a good carry on allowance if flying with it

  • looks pretty good other than the screen…

I personally like using a budget gaming laptop for my everyday needs. It’s quite versatile — I sometimes do Photoshop and light video editing, and occasionally play retro games like PS2 titles. For this price, it’s a solid all-rounder. The only downside is that it's a bit heavy and has poor battery life, especially when using it outdoors. - also it is the same price as the ordinary laptop when it is discounted!

  • -3

Has to be $650 or no deal. Even marshy would agree. He would disown this laptop because of the piddly 6gb vram

    • To all the neg votes. I guess you didn't detect the sarcasm

  • Is this a better deal than the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga Gen 4 Laptop deal that was posted yesterday? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/917491

Note: I'm not looking for any sort of gaming. But I perform lots of Wolfram Mathematica, MATLAB simulations, along with some research related python coding. Just want to know whether the i5 + 4050 GPU will be a better combination compared to the i7 (+ intel graphics, if it's there)? Performance and Battery wise.

    • If you game, get this.

If you just need it for day to day browsing/word processing etc then the lenovo is far better with battery life etc.

  • Would this game better than a GTX 1060 Desktop?

    • Obviously it's much faster, it's 3 generations ahead.

    • 4050 should be a lot better than 1060

  • +1

Display brightness is just 250 nits.
Thanks but I value my eyes more that i would save here

    Colour accuracy is also shit

    Color gamut
    45% NTSC
