Free Do Not Knock stickers.
Hopefully this will keep door-to-door salesperson away. Or you can just have an aggressive dog in the yard?

They didn't send me. I wasted paid reply envelope twice. Emailed them but nothing. They ozbargained me. lol
The dogs! They've got a free stamp scam going on!
Thats scummy innit
You can try picking up a sticker from the listed 1 of 110 locations?
Have you tried knocking?
Good to stick on top of the Apple abusive light/logo ;)
I never get any sales people that knock maybe you guys just live in the wrong areas.
Yea maybe haha, need to live in the slums
nah rich areas tend to have security.
@kungfuman: I guess not everyone can afford security guards to fend off salespeople or religious preachers
Never had salespeople, only religiou-"sales"-people (I say sales because they are trying go sell you on the ides of their religion)
From the page
"Interstate orders
We're currently receiving a large volume of requests for Do Not Knock stickers and we are prioritising Queensland orders. If you're from another Australian state or territory, visit your local consumer protection agency to learn more."
Also there is no requirement to send a self addressed envelope. I just went in to the page linked and filled out an order with a fee of $0.00 (even got a receipt) Will be sent out in 3 to 5 days.
I can confirm these do not work. They still knock
Had 1 of these by door, & 1 on letterbox…
Salesman argued he had the legal right to walk up to any front door. (We all do.)
He became abusive. I threatened to call Qld Police. But he knew they would not do anything.
Lodged complaint but nothing happened.
Now have locked gate across my courtyard. No one can enter unless I let them in! Peace & Quiet!!
Salesman argued he had the legal right to walk up to any front door.
You have the legal right to tie up a pit bull near your front door…
If they see the sign and still knock on your door, they are guilty of trespass.
I see you don't understand the Law.
Even if a person trespasses, they are not guilty of it. You have to repeatedly say they are trespassing & ask to leave, but can only ring the Police. If they arrive, they will just ask the person to leave.
In Victoria, trespassing, which includes wilfully entering a place without permission, can result in a fine of up to 25 penalty units or imprisonment for six months.
@jv: If Police arrive, they will just ask the person to leave. Once they leave no action can be taken. As they are no longer trespassing!
@INFIDEL: In Vic, trespassing is a criminal offence.
https://sklaw.com.au/understanding-unauthorised-trespassing-…
@jv: Yes, BUT If Police arrive, they will just ask the person to leave. Once they leave no action can be taken. As they are no longer trespassing & complied with a lawful direction!
Getting Police to arrive & act is highly unlikely in this minor issue!!
Yes, BUT If Police arrive, they will just ask the person to leave.
Not if they charge them with trespass…
@jv: As I commented…
I see you don't understand the Law.
Qld Police have to follow their procedure. Otherwise its an unlawful arrest!
@jv: Police don't do anything any more, at least that's the case in Vic. They'll literally say 'what do you want me to do about it' if you make any sort of report.
Police don't do anything any more, at least that's the case in Vic.
That is because Jacinta is diverting funding for police, schools and hospitals to pay for her $200 billion rail loop.
That is one of the main reasons for all this violence and crime we are experiecing.
@jv: Not quite. While I agree this is the most embarrassing government of all time so far in Vic by a large margin, the police actually have record high levels of funding. The question is where all that money is going when you can basically be murdered at the Flinders/Elizabeth intersection and they would care more about whether the junkies had enough ice than the fact the junky stabbed you.
the police actually have record high levels of funding.
and are still under resourced with all the paper work they are doing.
I never see police cars on patrol anymore…..
@INFIDEL: QLD Office of Fair Trading would have checked the sticker complies with Qld laws & legislation.
But as was designed only for use in.Qld, it may not comply with laws in other States.
Every caller who ignored the sticker by my door, conveniently claimed they never saw the small sticker.
In court that could be a valid excuse. Certainly not visible when entering many properties. Added an extra sticker to letterbox, which they also.failed to see.
@INFIDEL: No need to say they're trespassing, that's what the sign is for. You can jump straight to removing them from your property.
No need to say they're trespassing, that's what the sign is for
A court may determine a small sign that is not visible on entry to the property, or of much standing to tell people you don't want them at your front door, doesn't have the effect you think!!
Qld (& likely other) law contains implied consent by the occupier - to the entrance of any individual, at least as far as the front door.
This sticker only applies to SALESPEOPLE!
Get very few of those. More religious & political callers.
You can jump straight to removing them from your property.
No, you can only use a lawful & corresponding level of force in removing them from your property.
Generally considered to be 0 force by courts, unless the person is already violent.
Otherwise you can be charged or sued.
Much safer to ask them to leave.
@INFIDEL: You’re spot on, ignore the clowns that don’t actually know how to interpret QLD legislation.
I don't understand why he was combative. He was obviously not going to make a sale.
Salesman told me I should be thanking him for bringing me such a good deal on Solar, and I could win their competition!!
Rang the company. Asked for his boss.
Was told he brought in a fortune for the business. So F… Off😜
Use their business phone number on your Grindr profile.
And now you have to manually allow couriers to enter, or they'll just drop package/throw over the gate?
No. It works fine.
Have a lower section of courtyard wall beside gate. Parcels are left behind it, in container on top of wheelie bin.
Physical intrusions
3.33 Trespass to the person and trespass to land provide some protection against unauthorised interference with a person’s body or intrusions into property.[49] Both forms of the ancient tort of trespass are actionable per se, meaning that the tort is actionable when the interference occurs, without the need for the claimant to establish any recognised form of damage such as personal injury, psychiatric illness, property damage or economic loss.
3.34 ‘General’ damages, sometimes substantial, are awarded to compensate the claimant for the wrong that has occurred, and for any actual damage sustained, or by way of solace or vindication of his or her rights.[50] Aggravated damages may be awarded where there is a special humiliation of the claimant by the defendant. Exemplary or punitive damages may be awarded where the defendant has acted intentionally or maliciously and in arrogant or contumelious disregard of the claimant’s rights.
The implied right of access is revoked if there is a sign denying right of access (whether to specified types of people, or all people)
Hence the popularity of no thieves, bible bashers, salesmen, or coppers on these premises signs.
Just use a 'No Trespassing' sign
I really struggle to understand what people like that think they're doing. I had this with charity people too where I said up front I wasn't signing up for anything, they said they weren't doing that so I'd let them do their spiel, then they tried to sign me up for something at the end. Why go after people who have already made it clear they're not interested? Are they hoping you're attempting to divert them because you know you're an easy mark and they want to take advantage of that despite your resistance? Do they get paid per person they rope into listening to their pitch?
They're after some money for themselves! Like all of us.
After being continually rejected, it can get demoralising. So they can get desperate.
Most charity workers you see in shopping centres - earn a commission on each "sale". So do their bosses.
Only a small % goes to charity. Better to give directly if you want.
Many are backpackers. So I have a friendly chat about their country. But they want the commission (they know they won't get from me), so soon tell ME to go away😂
I've met their boss many in my area work for. He's a nice guy. We have a great laugh & get along.
Perhaps knocking on wood would provide better results lol
i've never had to knock on wood
I know someone who has
Illiterate people are people too.
Good to stick on top of the Apple abusive (bright) logo ;)
As a former door to door salesperson, they are an INVITATION, not a deterrent.
It DOES work for my home (Brisbane). It's not 100%, but it's close!
I even caught one person on camera the other day, frolicking towards my front door, until they saw the sign and turned around, disappointment evident in their body language.
I dunno… I keep fundraising choccos near the door, and just try and sell things to anyone who knocks.
Nobody is quite ready for a script flip, haha.
I had my own business for a while, would do the same thing and turn it back around, even got some clients from it.
"While you're here, would you mind signing my petition for removing vanity number plate fees?"
Laxative chocolates would have a more lasting effect :)
Yeah I mean I like "free" stuff like everybody.
But can anyone actually logically justify why a state government is providing this?
and its not just the cost of the stickers and postage. They probably spent weeks/months on a project deciding on it.
Including big consultancy fees for someone's niece's graphic design business to 'design' the sticker.
@tenpercent: Probably true, but since it's the 90s design, just on a sticker now (instead of a plastic sign; my house has the plastic sign).
It was probably a huge chunk of money, but if people are hung up on what was designed in the 90s and is still getting use, they're just looking for reasons to be negative, IMO.
@MasterScythe: I'll rephrase then, based on this new information you have provided
Including big consultancy fees for someone's niece's graphic design business to 'design' the sticker just using the old 90s font and clipart.
using the old 90s font and clipart.
Don't forget the 2 months study into what clipart to use.
@NigelTufnel: I feel like a lot of these people haven't worked public sector in QLD.
If they think anything other than "Send this old PDF to the printers, order them as stickers" happened, they really think the QLD gov is creating more jobs than they really are, haha.
QLD gov is about minimum effort internally.
There are a tonne of vulnerable and elderly people that get pushed into signing contracts for payments through pushy unsolicited door-to-door salespeople. It was a big issue with Energy companies particularly a few years ago.
Now, whether this actually stops that, or whether you think that is a worthwhile use of taxpayer money to try to avoid is another question. But that is the justification for providing it.
@PainToad: Reason for the vote downs? Ozbargain overrun by boomers who like milking younger generations?
Was that the justification the government used to produce and pay for these? I don't see that on the site.
@tenpercent: Does the government provide detailed justification for everything it provides?
They pretty much all came about after some court cases from the ACCC as a result of unfair contracts being entered into by vulnerable households as a result of push door-to-door salespeople. So I'm going to go with 'Yes, this was the justification'.
There's even a whole guide for consumers on their rights to door-to-door sales. I reckon production and distribution of that publication probably cost more than sending out these stickers tbh…
@tenpercent: NO U… since you're the one who actually cares.
That certainly sounds like a good use of taxpayer money unless they charge you for their time in preparing it.
@NigelTufnel: Let me know how it goes. I'll check back here in 9 months (assuming the govt can get it done in less time than a human gestation).
I wish we'd just make any cold sales approach illegal. No calls, no door knocking. It's just a nuisance and runs the risk of vulnerable people getting taken advantage of. There's no need for it for legitimate businesses. If you want to access people at home, putting fliers in mailboxes is cheaper and reaches more people. The only advantage of door to door is that you're able to put people on the spot and be pushier with your sales pitch.
It reduces pushy sales tactics, frauds and scam.
You might be have the attitude and confidence to tell people you're not interested. But many old people, or people with limited capacity don't have that confidence and will politely listen to someone pushing a sale and be coerced into buying something or seperating their money under false pretenses.
Having a sign for those people so they don't need to be confronted, will stop them from having to do it themselves.
A small sticker at the tax payers expense is cheaper than having to involve police, detectives, fraud and scam teams etc when something happens. Also if someone loses their money to a scam they end up having to rely on government handouts even more and that ends up costing all of us.
So the government offers these in an attempt to save everyone money by reducing instances of fraud and theft. It benefits everyone.
Agreed. They would cost like $2 if bunnings sold them, rather than the $15 the tax payer forks out. The government should focus on government services and saving tax payer funds.
fraud prevention saves tax payer funds more than a few stickers.
I'm sure people committing fraud are going to follow this sign. Fraudsters are known for following the rules /s
@PainToad: Being coerced or pushed into a legal sale then later regretting it and getting authorities involved or becoming destitute from it and relying on the government to help you is much the same.
It's obvious your in the camp if "if this doesn't benefit me, I refuse to see the benefit of it at all". Which is fine
Trust me when I saw there are people much smarter than you and me who make these sorts of decisions and cost benefit or risk analysis. And 99.9%, whenever government money is spent on others, it's done to help indirectly reduce the future costs to everyone, including yourself in one way or another.
Trust me when I saw there are people much smarter than you and me who make these sorts of decisions and cost benefit or risk analysis.
Lol someone is drinking the Kool-aid. I have actually got first hand experience at how decisions like this are made and it's not the rocket science you think it is.
Most likely someone had some budget to spend and so blew it on the first dumb idea they heard so they didn't lose it for next year. I'm speaking from experience here.
And 99.9%, whenever government money is spent on others, it's done to help
It's not government money, it's your money. Why do you think a public servant is better at spending your money than you are?
It's obvious your in the camp if "if this doesn't benefit me, I refuse to see the benefit of it at all". Which is fine
Not at all.
But I would have thought personal responsibility could at the very least extend to people buying their own $2 stickers.
The only fraud happening is the government allowing these private companies to make and send these stickers at high costs to the tax payer. Just like the "free" FOGO bags the council sends out that are costing rating payer $85 for a 100 pack. These are worth around $10 if sold on store shelves. Much the same story with the FOGO bins.
fraud prevention saves tax payer funds more than a few stickers.
Show your data.
You do know that fraud is already illegal? A prison sentence is not enough of a deterrent but you think a taxpayer funded sticker will work? Do you work at the ABC?
So you rather waste the money on submarines?
More than one thing can be a waste of taxpayer money at the same time. They’re not mutually exclusive.
So you rather waste the money on submarines?
Yes. Because without a credible defence capability everything else you do can be taken from you at a moments notice. Read any history book for thousands of examples of how that works.
How to get free stickers for mailbox? Too many advertisment pamphlets
Lookout for stickermule sticker sale. i got 5 delivered for $4.95 and they are really good quality. Been on my mailbox for over a year and no fading or degradation in over a year (full sun, get frost and rain).
Have one of those 'no junk mail please' stickers on my letterbox and it's respected by all the leaflet distributors EXCEPT for those low life shiny suit real estate salespeople - the scourge of the 21st century in Australia. Forever plucking out the glossy pictures of these modern day lechers with their fake smiles from my letter box. /rant.
Do u complaint about those (profanity)?
Never catch them in the act and what would I have to whine about if they stopped?
@greatscott: Get creative. Keep the next few that you get then send them to each other eg the Ray White pamphlet gets sent to the Harcourt agent etc… no stamp on the envelope and no return address.
If in Qld report them to these guys. https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/circular-economy-waste-re…
Has cut down the number significantly, and they get fined for the second offence.
Probably similar in other states.
Good idea. I assume limited to QLD though?
