Some might prefer to wait for the upcoming version 4 but I suspect the launch price will be much higher than this.

Yeah mine has lasted around 3-4 years and the left mouse click needs to be pushed harder. I put some mild cleaner under it and pressed it a few times and it's working okay.
Seems to be a known issue that the switch gets degraded fast and in some cases would need to have the mouse opened up to replace the switch. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.
Mine is the double clicking or sometimes left click activates right click, also yeah unresponsive clicks. Overall I'm starting to believe I'm being gaslit about "OzB's favourite mouse" title. It's a good mouse, sure, but tons of eventual issues.
Is this a joke? How much would you expect a mouse to last?
Well to be fair it's probably lasted this long because it's my secondary mouse.
Prior to my MX Master 2/3, I'd never had a mouse fail so the fact a $100+ mouse couldn't last 3-4 years is pretty bad.
Same here - got about 3 years. Rubber started degrading around the 2 year mark and had issues with the scroll wheel not freely spinning. Then the left click started working inconsistently. Loved the mouse initially but the rubber has been a constant issue with all the MX Masters. The 3S has all the same issues plus the awful "silent" clicks that feel like mush. Have moved to the Keychron M6 and it's been a good swap. It doesn't feel as premium and I'm hoping the plastic hasn't got a coating on it (but only time will tell) but it has most of the features, higher polling rate and clicky switches.
yeap, my right click is failing on my mx3, annoying in games when you're about to aim down sights to shoot someone and nothing happens. Also the signl of the dongles aren't the greatest either. I've ive got a bottle sitting in the way it will mess up the signal.
Mines ok, I even use mine to game.
what do you do with it? sticky keys? maybe some wet wipes when visiting those favourite bookmarks might be a good idea bro
MX master 3 lasted almost 4 years. Still working perfectly, but rubber is heavily degraded, and Logitech do not sell replacements for this. I'll probably wait for the 4 at this point, really hoping they don't have rubber on the new version.
The rubber is absolutely garbage and caused issues on the MX Master 2 and 3. That said, it almost feels like planned obsolescence at this point given how rapidly it deteriorates. I wish manufacturers would stop this soft touch plastic/rubber garbage as it degrades when the rest of the product is fine.
Honestly the most obvious instance of planned obselecence I can think of. The nicer feel for the first couple of years is not worth the entire product having to be replaced in 3-4 years. Manufacturers should be forced to provide replacement parts for things that are so obviously designed to degrade as they are used.
You do under stand that longer lasting materials aren't as comfortable, right? Also mouse would be more expensive, right?
@nikoris: That's fair. I'd have no problem with it if they offered reasonably priced replacement parts.
rubber perishing is why my mice usually get replaced, not buttons and stuff, wish less rubber was used.
hey - if you are interested in faffing around a bit and don't mind spending $20, you can get a 3d printed replacement shell made. it's not perfect, but i will get years more use out of my mouse now. that sticky rubber was horrid. hit me up if you want some more info.
I actually tried 3d printing a replacement haha. Getting the rubber off is such a pain, I stopped after peeling off the first bit because I didn't want to destroy the mouse, but I'm planning on trying this properly once I buy a replacement.
oh no way! yeah i decided against printing my own because the suggested material and fineness of it was gonna be tough for me to manage.
the rubber peeling is tedious, but it does come off alright all in all. i definitely recommend sticking with it!
My MX Master 2 failed with the palm click becoming stuck.
Same thing has just happened to the OG MX Master. I am in need of a replacement but will wait for the 4 because it seems the 3s has the same issues with the sticking clicks.
That was the same flaw I had as the rubber softens and jams the button. I originally got upgraded to the MX Master 3 under warranty but the coating failed as well as the left click after about 3 years. Take a look at the Keychron M6 - it's about 90% of the way there. I did and am happy with it (though I miss the automatic infinity scroll wheel - the M6 has to be manually toggled like the MX Master 2)
You can unbind the button so even if its stuck it doesn't do anything.
You can open the unit and loosen the button - I did this twice on my mx master 2, partner still uses it and I software disabled the thumb button. I bought a cheap set of replacement skates for it as once the adhesive is off it's not really re-usable.
HODL 4 MX MASTER 4
HODL 5
It's 2025, they still can't find a formular to prevent plasticiser going sticky.
Maybe it's a convenience to get consumers to replace whatever that is every couple of years.
My master 2s is falling apart (freewheel mech broken; thumb button broken, rubber degrading on thumb hold).
I won’t be buying another. I was considering the razor vertical mouse, but concerned about longevity of that too. It’s also covered in a rubberised grip.
How much do you expect a mouse to last? 10 years?
Doh! i purchased 1 for work and the dumb ass IT don't allow me to install options plus so i can remap buttons
Yep same they refused to install. I said its logitech! Nope
I think $108 is not ATL
It's not. It went sub-$80
Ive had my MX Master since Oct 2020 and its still perfectly fine after heavy use every day ( work/gaming). Best mouse ever.
Still got the original MX master. Might finally be time for an upgrade… I bought mine in 2018. Still as strong as ever. Used since then for WFH 1 day a week, all through covid times and then the last 3 years working completely remotely.
My only real reason for upgrading would be to only carry a USB C charger.
I am using Anywhere 2s, because 3 and 3s doesn't have scoll wheel tilt left and right, hope it come back in next gen of Anywhere. I know Master 4 won't have this feature.
anyone know if this logitechshop is still owned by Eddie from Fluidtek?
My 2S serves me well since 2020 and died few months ago. Left and right click work but the pointer doesnt move any where when i move the mouse. Bought the 3S few weeks ago. I hope it lasts as long.
your 2s problem sounds like one that happened to me. The button under the thumb got stuck, and the pointer wouldn't move. I opened the mouse up, loosened the screws on the thumb button, and the pointer started working again. I never used the thumb button anyway, it never worked well even when brand new.
Thanks for the sharing. Ill try opening it up this weekend
Nice mouse but too heavy. I am NOT going back to heavy mice.
Strange mouse, the tactile button on the side below is so difficult to press with the thumb, I returned it not understanding the hype, nice feel but very niche to office works.
If you have a Lenovo think pad then this mouse would go nice as the track pad on that's strange and niche.
Overall I settled for a Razer Basilisk V3, it's cheap but feels responsive, light and functional and operates up 10 metres away.(I mean cheap like it feels like a $2 item in the $2 store, it's cheap in quality but very functional)
But it sits in the wardrobe as I use a wired mouse, I dunno use what you have, may sell it or not.
Wired mouse 2014
I've had my 2S since 2018 and have none of the above mentioned problems. Still works great except the battery no longer holds charge. I will be attempting to replace the battery soon.
is there a better (free rolling) scroll wheel out there than this bad boy?! definitely my fav by a long shot.
I've had the 2 and 3S. All failing right now lol (sticky keys, unresponsive scroll). I'd wait for the 4 indeed.
