This is not a metric tool. Still pretty good as a square.

    • -2

Yeah uses degrees and not the metric unit for angle which is RADIANS

      • +1

Degrees and radians aren’t part of the metric system. Radians is mostly used more in maths than practical applications.

        • Lets just post wrong shit all the time and not bother looking it up

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degree_(angle)

          • @eddyah: Ok I was wrong and Radians are the angle measurement of the SI system, which is the Metric system.
As Gadget pointed out, rarely, if ever, used outside theory calculations.

        • While radians is technically metric as pointed out, you'll never find it in any measuring tool in existence.

    • +1

Is it just me, or does Bunnings stock a lot of imperial stuff - I.e half of the screws and nuts section is in imperial measurements. Seems I need to bring out the conversation calculator every second or so trip there to work out what I'm buying.

      • +3

You just looking in the wrong section

      • I usually buy whatever is cheapest, which is often imperial. And I believe that's due to economy of scale.

    • +2

      It's clearly a triangle though.

      • +1

its a two pack, you join them together. They come flat-packed

  • +8

Hard to believe it is normally $30 for a plastic measuring square. Bought one because cheap

    • +5

Don't think anyone would ever actually pay $30 given you can get aluminium ones for that price.

      • Bought an aluminium one in Canadian Tire Vancouver, tools are cheaper over there than in Oz.

        • Long way to go, though.

          • @Ulysses31: Ha! ha!, Have been there multiple times, got my immediate family there. You never know, one day CA could be on your vacation list :)

            • @Bluering48: 100% So many amazing places (and people there)

I also read they have cheap tools :p

      • The aluminum ones will last quite a bit longer. Fully recyclable.

ok, i'm looking for a measuring tape that rolls up and back out like that's 80s slap bands….

    • Stanley Fat Max is the goat

      • Agreed.

Decent magnet, decent lock; and it'll go way out without bending if you need to hook something you can't reach.

Looks like a measuring triangle to me.

    • +5

I blame the Australian education system. It is definitely a triangle…

      • Looks as as Square as all the ones i have in my shed?

      • Its to make sure your lines are square (e.g. 90 degrees perpendicular).

The stationary version for drafting is called a set square.

      • Shrinkflation. Used to be square for the same price *& who needs 230y outdated measures ;)

      • Measuring square is correct, you use it to square what you are working on when cutting or joining, to make sure it is at right angle.

    • +1

The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an Isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side!

    • +1

That's an odd name. I'd have called them chazzwazzers.

  • +2

Ah so we have a triangle identifying as a Square…

    • It is not what it looks like, more what you are using it for, to square your project.

    • +1

Tools are identified by their function not what they look like.

E.g. a hammer hammers, a drill drills, yo mama would be called a nail etc

      • +1

Jokes aside its pretty usefull own one the Blue empiral and use it with the circular saw

        • Yeah I use mine all the time for the same thing. Beats using a mitre saw every time for convenience.

  • +3

I think it's a speed square. Really handy for roofing.

    https://youtu.be/F21irDPi5LQ?si=0JOzx3SpSEMbeF_o

    • My roofer just eye balls it

  • One of the most used tools in my arsonal. Unfortunate it's in imperial, places like the USA needs to get with the times…
I wouldn't sneer at it being plastic. The plastic is very heavy duty and it's not as susceptible to heat/sun. It is also lighter compared to aluminium ones.

    • -2

      Arsenal… haha

      • -1

Arsonal is correct: he keeps it with his matches, napalm, petrol and incendiary devices.

    • +1

I hate imperial, wished all tools sold in Autralia were exclusively metric.

      • Those SAE tools n bits that comes with metric-imperial tool kits drive me nuts.

  • These are great for freehand cutting deckboards, joists etc to length. Much better than a combo square for docking. Lots of other uses but thats my main one.The smaller 7" one is probably more useful will fit in toolbelt easily.
    Trade tools alloy metric/imp https://www.tradetools.com/renegade-industrial-aluminium-qui…

    • freehand cutting deckboards

      Do you have example video?

      • lots out there but its a pretty simple concept eg https://youtu.be/UN9xISrNFNY?t=49
If its a critical cut you can clamp the square to the piece to ensure zero movement

        • I thought so - using it as a fence. When you said freehand, I thought you held it like the guy in the vid vs clamping - brave person or someone who does it everyday so is second nature.

        • is there a tool that integrates a clamp with a square? My circular saw has a left-hand side blade, so when I need to cut a small piece from a big one, I need to fix a guide to the right-hand side of the saw.

  • -1

One reviewer said the bigger square is a little off, not square.

    • Nothing actually is perfectly square due to the uncertainty of what is being measured + the measuring device itself having an error.

    • +1

perhaps that is covered in the specification:
      "Accuracy: 0"

  • Just bought one to collect tomorrow, after I saw the price on ToolKit Depot $34.49

  • out of stock when tried to order with delivery
    No stock in local Bunnings

  • +1

Collected mine today, well, it's a nice and quite wide piece of tool. An impressive bargain.

  • i didn't appreciate it is so big. 8mm thick plastic. probably worth the $6. pity it is imperial. are we a dumping ground for american junk?

  • I could order online. Just got the package delivered this morning. They sent me a Trojan one :(

  • back to $32. must have been an oopsie

    • I will wait until next sale.
