Hi guys,

Pretty good deal. Not that cheap in absolute value, but cheaper than that Rolls last week.

According to the signage - you buy the 80" model and you get a bonus 60" model, free local delivery, and standard installation (I assume this is assemble on cabinet and connect components).

Sharp 80" LCD with LED backlighting - LC80LE940X - $9487 (RRP: $10,999, cheapest price: $8996 JB)
URL: http://www.sharp.net.au/product-catalogue/products/LC80LE940…
Spec summary: 3D, 200Hz, DLNA, 4x HDMI, 1x component, 2x composite, 1x VGA, wireless dongle and 1 pair 3D glasses included

Sharp 60" LCD with LED backlighting - LC60LE640X - $0 (RRP: $2899, cheapest price: $1990 Penta Group)
URL: http://www.sharp.net.au/product-catalogue/products/LC60LE640…
Spec summary: 3D, 100Hz, DLNA, 4x HDMI, 1x component, 2x composite, 1x VGA

Not the cheapest price available for the 80", but when you consider the bonus 60", if you're after 2 TVs, its not a bad deal at all…

    Will they honour this? Lol

  • +14

Is it me or does anyone else think that a ten grand tellie should perhaps come with more than one lousy set of 3D goggles? It's a bit friggin stingy…

Other than that it seems like a good deal if you've got 10K to blow :)

    • +4

And the 60" is nearly $3k rrp and doesn't seem to come with ANY 3d glasses.

That's how Harvey gets you, 2 sets of TVs and only one pair of 3d glasses :P

      • +4

Harvey Norman don't make the tv, Sharp do. It's upto the supplier to include how many sets of glasses.

        • +10

But Harvey is doing the package deal with the knowledge that you're getting two TVs and only one pair of glasses included, so you're likely to put out a bit extra. And hell, since you're spending almost $10k anyway, why not round it up with a few monster cables =P

      • I didn't look into the details of the 60 incher, if it's 3D as well and you only get the one set for both screens, that's abysmal.

    • "Ten grand telly"
      Haha that sounds cool

  • The 90 inch version is hitting the shelves at the moment… $21,000 though…

Good deal for the 80 inch tv, one of my clients bought the 80 inch for $8800 installed in December.

the depreciation on those things will be frightening

    • From a tax perspective, isn't that what you want?

      • +2

I have trouble claiming that as a business expense….

        • Change jobs.

        • +4

Teach us which profession could claim this as a business expense.

        • +1

Presentation and entertainment comes to mind. Even better if both is one in the same…

      • After your tax deduction, you will still be left wearing 70% of the depreciation.

  • +3

    80 inches? That's almost as big as a $1000 3D 1080p projector.

The image quality might be as good as a $2-3000 3D 1080p projector though, I guess… so it only misses being a bargain by at least 6 grand.

    • -1

How noisy are the projectors? Not that I would need one as I live in a small apartment, I would have to be shifting my head constantly to see the image

Issue I would see is the build up of dust unless you can been bothered rolling it up and then there would be wear and tear, the benchmark for image quality is pretty high these days

      • also, how much is it to replace the projector lamps? from memory they used to be $300-400 a pop.

        • You probably won't ever change them… they have a massive lifespan these days not like 5 years ago

        • Cheaper than replacing a 10K TV.

      • These days, at around that price range, the image quality is incredible and the noise is pretty close to silent. You don't need a screen, just a wall (though either a screen or special paint will improve the image contrast a bit).

There's no more dust than a TV of the same size, not sure what you're imagining there.

TV is cheap. It's the extension to the house to fit the thing in that's gonna cost you.

  • +9

wait for a 4k model at this size :P - but really i have seen these in store and the resolution is so stretched that you have to be 10 metres away before it looks any good.

  • +5

    Saw this 80" tv in JB….playing the Avengers…wow Scarlett Johanson…life size….crystal clear…mmmmm

  • +1

Haha.. Keen, just buy a $1500 projector instead and give the $8000 difference to charity.

I don't think buying a 9.5k TV will make you much (if any) happier than buying a 1k tv.

    • +1

You are going to give $8k to charity? I applaud you

Me on the other hand don't have the balls to give that much…probably the reason why I'm on Ozbargain everyday =P

  • +3

The real bargain here will be in 1-2 years time when the consumers that bought these TVs will sell them to buy 'the next big thing' and you can pick up each of these for under $1000 :)

    • The SHARP 90" Model: LC-90LE745U LED - 1080p - 120Hz - Smart - 3D - HDTV is on sale in the US for US$8,999.98 … the next BIG thing.

  • +1

I think the 70" inch is around 3.5k, the extra 10 inches cost almost triple the amount.

  • +2

    In the US the Sharp - AQUOS - 80" Class - LED - 1080p - 120Hz - Smart - HDTV - Black goes for $3,999 and the Sharp - AQUOS Quattron - 80" Class - LED - 1080p - 240Hz - Smart - 3D - HDTV for $4,999.

    • -3

      Whats your point exactly?

      • +1

Point being that prices in AU are still severly inflated on these big screen TV's however are no doubt on the way down here in AU.

        • +2

          Yep totally agree.

I was in France a couple of months ago and saw this identical 80" Sharp TV on this thread on display for sale with a price of ~AU$4800. This was at a large department store, not a high st discounter and in a smaller French town not Paris so you can probably pick it up even cheaper at electronic stores…

Yet here in Australia we consider it a "bargain" when the TV sells for $9500 instead of its $11,000RRP !! :(

Personally we should tell manufacturers that are gouging us like that where to stick it and to never buy items that are so inflated….Unfortunately the manufacturers see that as a lack of demand for super large TVs and stop selling them here rather than see it as a refusal to be taken for a ride and be ripped off.

        • This time we only get charged double the price the rest of the world is paying. Well done Harvey….

  • i would rather spend $3000 for a 70" Sharp

  • I honestly think TV's over 55 inches look pixelated and not very good. 80 inch is probably the beat choice for 4k and 100 inch for 8k.

    • Problem with that is that there is no content at 4k so what are you going to play on it???

From what I have read the best digital movies are 4K and good film is comparable to 4K but after its edited you end up with something that is near 2K

  • I think I paid around 7.5K for my 60" Kuro ($11,999RP) when they first came out in a group buy deal on another forum.

I thought that was a pretty good price at the time. However, with this deal, you get a bonus 60" thrown in!

  • +1

So the 80" for the bedroom and the 60" for the bathroom then. Just looking at the blank wall now. Acoustics in the bathroom would be the problem…

  • Anyone see an equivalent deal in Sydney?
