Where Can I Buy This Garage Door Opener Bulb?

My garage door opener no longer turns on a light on opening, and so I need a new bulb.

However I simply cannot find where to buy a replacement.

The current bulb is a Tungsram 1061 incandescent globe with the following printed on it

24VP21W

The base is 15mm bayonet with a double contact (I believe this is Ba15D) and it has non-offset pins.

I can find many bulbs that meet all but one of these specs but none that meets them all (except internationally shipped from UK via eBay).

Tons with BA15s base, a handful with BA15d base but with offset pins…

Help gratefully received.

ADDED I think I have found a source if all else fails

Not keen on paying $36 though.

  • Do you have a picture? Sounds like an automotive bulb.

  • Might be worth calling lamp replacements on Monday to ask them to check if the two pins are offset or not - can only see 1 pin in picture. Otherwise if anyone knows where to source it will be them.

      If you are referring to

      https://www.lampreplacements.com.au/Products/LAMPS/OTHER-SPECIALISED/INDICATOR-MINIATURE/Small-Bayonet-Cap-(B15)/GENERIC-24V-21W-BA15d-Garage-Door

then this has the offset pins - the non-offset pins are both very low on the base.

  • Ours has been broken for ages. I haven't bothered changing it. I guess I should keep an eye on this thread to see if it applies to ours. For now I just use my keychain torch if I need light.

  • Take the physical bulb into one of the bricks and mortar stores that come up when you google the P/N and see if they have it.

an alternative…pick up a 24v led or 2x 12v in series and break the old bulb and solder the wires to the base, or off the board on the door opener

    • This is what I'd do.

  • Truck parts shop? Many trucks are 24v.

  • You don’t want to run a 25w bulb?

Also, the bulb you linked to says it’s a narva. Check the narva catalogue to see what the part number is.
Edit - I just did a very quick check of the Narva catalogue and can only see a 25w bulb in 24v. The bulb you linked to may in fact be 25w?

    • Box of 10 - lifetime supy for OP. Perfect

      • Ha, it was just to show OP the part number rather than suggesting 10.

Although, when I needed 2 reverse bulbs it was cheaper to buy the 10 pack.

    • I expect the 25W bulb will work fine - it just didn’t come up in my searches.

    • Incorrect base. That’s an S for single contact, OP said they need BA15D, D is for dual contact.

Oh, for dog's sake, just google 24V21W BA15D LED, there's heaps of them on ebay and elsewhere, and LEDs will last forever.

How could you have spent the time creating this thread without doing that first. It takes all of 10 seconds.

There's even a company, Lamp Replacements Australia, that says it has generic 24V21W BA15D globes FOR GARAGE DOOR LIGHTS for $4.95 if you want cheap.

GordonD should get a room with GordonR. I'm feeling a lot of tension here.

    • Yes it only takes 10 seconds to find the wrong item.

That one from LRA has offset pins while I need the non-offset pins.

As I mentioned, I spent a lot of time finding globes that matched pretty much any 4 out of the 5 criteria (voltage, wattage, size, base type and pin configuration) it was getting to 5 out of 5 that was the problem.

    • Yep, that’s the one - bit annoying to have $11 shipping on a $4 globe, but at least they exist. Thanks.

      • Buy 2.

        • What pisses me off is that I did have two, but simply cannot find the second…

  • It is an AUTO bulb model 1061F, 24V, 21W

    $1.50 ea

    • Offset pins, again, but thanks for the effort.

  • Google Lens is designed just for moments like these 😜

    https://ebay.us/m/lB4Xlp

    • Single contact (BA15s), whereas I need double (BA15d).

    • Google lens is shit when it comes to detecting minor specifics.

  • https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32826345202.html The BAY15D non offset LED version. $15 for 10 including shipping.

    • Interesting idea, but many sources say cheap LED globes may interfere with remote functionality.

  • Make your life easy. Pop the glass on the existing unicorn globe. Solder the two wire from the unicorn globe to a common 24V bulb holder. Buy a common 24V bulb easy. This way you created an adapter and not modify anything provided there is space to do so.

  • This meets your 5 details I believe.

Seconds to find multiple suppliers of a standard 24V Indicator / Reverse style bayonet globe. I have them in my new old stash somewhere! And at a Supercheap near you.
